As I get older I don't want to get lost in traffic, and I will not have a computerised voice telling me where to go. Best I stick to the countryside for my trips. I was in London a week ago, now finishing up touring southwest England. Your photos of villages have inspired me to explore off the typical tourist path, although I’ve hit some popular spots too. Love Cornwall, but as we’ve rented a car the lanes are hair raising and narrow. Winchester, Plymouth, Wadebridge, Port Isaac, Oxford. It’s been magical. Those roadworks on the A1 have been going on for a while now, and are causing hell for us who have to endure them on a regular basis. You made a wise choice as well not to venture into Newcastle to see some of Hadrian's Wall, the council are rabidly anti- motorist - for a while a 200 yard bus lane in the city centre had the dubious distinction of generating to highest level of fines of any bus lane in the country through inadequate signage. The council have made city centre parking so difficult and expensive that Northumberland Street and Eldon Square, once the premier shopping areas in the North East, are now also-rans to places like the MetroCentre, Silverlink and Team Valley Retail Park where parking is plentiful and free. And not let's get started on how long we have been waiting for the A1 to be upgraded to dual carriageway all the way to Edinburgh, with still no end in sight!<br />Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06715674477635617592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3556657999892839298.post-4904036623157375462022-09-20T13:39:25.601+01:002022-09-20T13:39:25.601+01:00Pleased you found some lovely places and some bits...Pleased you found some lovely places and some bits of The Wall! I'm enjoying your photos of the North North. Most folks down south think Leeds and Manchester are The North and forget about the big chunk before you get to Scotland. Thank you for putting us back on the map.Corinnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12310800490190639363noreply@blogger.com
