It is my sisters birthday in a couple of days, I decided to make her a card. I have loads of stuff which I have collected, it was all free, apart from the cards themselves which were £4.50 for 50 cards. I don't like using glue, too messy and the paper goes all wrinkly. I sew the bits and pieces on. For this one I have used old cut up cards, and a scrap of fabric, but you could use anything as long as you can get a needle through it. Anyone can have a go at this, no special skills required.
I stick the pictures on with a bit of rolled up sellotape on the back to keep it steady as I sew. I use a small notice board pin to pierce the holes through first, and put a mat underneath it to protect the table.
Try and make the stitches all the same size.
Tidy up the ends on the inside.
To hide the stitches get a piece of A4 paper and trim it to slightly smaller than the card. Measure 1.5 inches in from each end on the crease, then another one inch in. Stick the pin in at these places and use four strands of cotton to tie them together.
Then stitch your name on the card at the back.
One exclusive hand made card for a few pence. Much better than a shop bought one. It actually cost me nothing to send it as well. I found a stamp which hadn't been franked on one of my Christmas cards, and very carefully peeled it off. My goodness I am tight, ha ha.
Wow, I am impressed, fantastic crafting going on! I am sure your sister will be delighted :)

Wonderful - one of my goals this year is to make all my own cards; I think stitching is a great idea. I have a ginko tree near me and plan to make some prints of the leaves.

Its a beautiful handcrafted card. something I'd like to try.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely card and very unique! I'm sure your sister will be pleased as punch to receive it. Happy Birthday to your sister too when it comes around. Happy New Year to you too, Ilona. Cheers, Christy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice card that is! Just be careful when re-using stamps - there are two long ovals on them which apparently show the stamp has been re-used. The postmaster at my husband's local post office where he has his garage told him that. Previously I had always steamed stamps off but now I don't. Might be worth checking again?
ReplyDeleteWell done Ilona, the card looks lovely. I do like it when you are crafting.
ReplyDeleteRe Campfire's post above. Here is example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PostallyUsedMachins.jpg Cheers, Christy
ReplyDeleteI like your idea. I've always tackled cards with glue so I might now pinch this idea and have a good sew with my next card. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum
