Blimey look at the time, I've been so busy, I forgot to post. I've been getting the house ready for my cat sitter, can't have the place looking like a tip, what would she think, ha ha. I've been gathering things to put in my rucksack, and checking that I have all the maps I need, and info, contact details, etc. I do faff about when I am getting ready for an adventure. Making lists, what do I need. Sun tan lotion or waterproofs, shorts or thermals, wooly hat and gloves or sunglasses, I don't know, your guess is as good as mine. Tomorrow night I shall be sleeping in a B & B in Morecambe, don't know which one, just step off the train and look for a Vacancies sign. All adds to the fun of it, oooh I'm so excited. I must go and see Eric while I'm there, I want a photo of him. The wonderfully, amazing and most funniest comedian ever, Eric Morecambe. He will be the starting point for my big walk.
I'm getting picked up tomorrow and taken to the station. I remember how I felt when I did the walk last year from Blackpool, I was stepping into the unknown. I sat on the train and thought, this is it then, I'm going all this way and I'm going to walk back. I wasn't sure if I could do it. After the first day, when I had to walk a bit further to get a bed for the night, I sat in my room and thought, bloody hell what have I done. That's just one day, and I'm jiggered. When it got to day three I struggled, and was glad it was a shorter day. I got to the hostel and had to walk a mile to the shop and back to get some food. There was one day when I needed to find a bed, it was 7.30pm, and the pub was full up, they couldn't accommodate me, so I had a meal and carried on. It was almost 9pm when I found a place to stay. But hey, as always, tomorrow is another day, and each morning I was ready to tackle it.
So bye bye for now, I'll catch you on the road, and if you see me, no I don't want a lift thank you, I'm walking you see, the whole way. Toodle pip.
I hope the weather is fine for you, and that all goes well. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Ilona.
ReplyDeleteI have a scary thing to do tomorrow, I am travelling by train from home to Carlisle and then I shall be driven to Annan in Scotland. I am so excited...
Good luck Ilona! Safe jouney!
ReplyDeleteI think you might need some new footwear soon!
Take care,
hugs,
Sandie xx
Gee, if I walked even 25 miles up the highway, I would have to walk in ditches! If I walked a country road, I would just get hit by a car or walk in tall grass and ruts. I must say that walking to the mailbox and back is an adventure for me. LOL... my back and I don't walk much.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to a place called Morecambe and seeing a comedian named Morecambe?
Trains and buses are not part of my world or anyone else's in the South of the US around where I live. Interesting post to me.
Eric Morecambe took his stage name from the seaside town and there is a statue of him there, which I'm guessing is what Ilona is going to see. Here's some info on him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Morecambe
DeleteOh, I see. Thanks for the information.
DeleteOne night backpacking in Ireland I seriously thought I would end up sleeping in a hedge by the side of the road because the hostels were full up and the B&Bs would have been a week's budget...lord, I walked and walked and walked that October night. I hope your search for a sleeping spot never reaches quite that level of "fun"!
ReplyDeleteGood weather and good walking to you :)
Stay safe, have fun, and give Eric a kiss from me!

Stay safe and I pray you will be well and will enjoy it..I admire you! That is a bit too gutsy for me. LOL!
ReplyDeleteSafe journey MQ - you're unbelievably adventurous ! and brave too, that takes a bit of doing for a woman on her own.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, hope you have good weather, where possible and comfy beds. You are an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, stay safe and say hello to Eric from me.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for fair weather and vacancy signs.
Sue xx
Good luck and good weather. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteGood luck Ilona! When I met J in Robin Hood's Bay after his coast to coast walk we struggled to find a bed for the night - something they'd suffered during the walk - it was 10pm before they found one at the end of a 30 mile day. I thought all 4 of us ( he'd walked with a friend, and his girlfriend had driven us to pick them up) were going to have to sleep in the car- not recommended after walking all that way - and I was 6 months pregnant!
ReplyDeleteTake care Ilona and enjoy your adventure. You amaze me. A few weeks ago I walked 6 miles to town and back to save on parking and I was absolutely jiggered with bleeding feet. Never again! You put me to shame. We want lots of stories of what you get up to. Good luck. Debs x
ReplyDeleteHave a fun time, you're braver than me (and fitter!). What route are you walking back? Last time you walked back near to where I live but I didn't know until after you'd passed by! Enjoy your holiday x
ReplyDeleteWow, that's so cool! We'll be booking our place on a campsite each evening. Not so adventurous but it's often busy in Cornwall! Getting towards the summer season already!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great walk! :)
