Well that's me all scrubbed up for another fortnight. The immersion heater is switched off and wont be put back on again untill the next bath. Yes I have a bath once every two weeks, the rest of the time I boil a kettle and have a wash in a bowl. That's what we did when I was a child, mum washed us in the sink. I still do that now, saves loads of money, and time.
The water as you can see is still in the bath. In this pic you can see the close proximity of the toilet, and the plastic jug. The bath water will be used to flush the toilet for the next week. The solids get a normal flush but the widdles get a jug of bath water. I think it's a terrible waste to let all this water go down the plug hole and into the drains.
I will use some of it to wash my car tomorrow, the rest will go down the loo. Bye the way, I haven't washed my car for about nine months, it hasn't been dirty enough to need it. I am doing a lot less mileage now, and we didn't have that slushy weather like we had the previous winter, so it hasn't got dirty. I am on a water meter so I am saving money all round really, can't be bad. Toodle pip.
Great job at saving water!
ReplyDeleteI am not a great one for washing cars. I had mine washed 2 weeks ago as I was going to my son's wedding in it and didn't want him to be embarrassed by me. I actually PAID as it was just sooooo filthy and the wheels would have taken me hours to do. They did such a good job of it too. That will do me for another year probably! My neighbours are all obsessed with washing their cars, and wash them the same day every week and one of them takes about 2 hours to wash and vacuum. What a waste of time and water. We are not on water meters here though.
ReplyDeleteMy water meter gets fitted on Thursday. I'm wondering how far I'll go saving money by reducing consumption of the precious stuff. Am stumped as to why your car keeps so clean. Mine's filthy after a week or so. Must be to do with all that country road driving x
ReplyDeleteI have a bath roughly every six months whether I need it or not. When I say roughly, I don't mean I use a hard scrubbing brush. I should have said approximately.
ReplyDeletewe're on a water meter, there is just the two of us, our last bill was £46 for three months. pots washed once a day, I'm in the bath (about 4 inch of water)/ wash hair every other day , hubby showers once a week, washing machine on three times a week and windows washed twice a year. loo flushed for a number two, car washed when it's dirty.

You can still use the bath water for solids. Just give it two or three jugs. The longer it sits in the tub, the less you get to use because of evaporation from the huge surface area. So, using it for solids is actually more savings.
ReplyDeleteRight now, well, for the last three weeks because of a catastrophic failure of my tub drain, I cannot take a bath. I wash up in the sink and I feel grimy all the time because I cannot have lots of water on me. The washcloth provides only a certain amount of clean for me.
I am a ship shower fan. get wet. turn off water. get soapy. turn on water. rinse. works for the navy so its good enough for me. I have tap attachments for my shower fitted to the bath tap. I have a combi boiler so no emmersion emmersion Immersion thing. wash hair twice a week. weeny girl gets a bath each night though. she is still at an age when she likes to play. wash up once.
ReplyDeleteI really think this is a good idea to use grey water in what ever way possible. I have taken to taking a timer into the bathroom when I have my showers (3.5 minutes/4 minutes if I'm washing my hair) I'm in doing everything I need then out, no time for thinking or contemplating the meaning of life! I worked out this will "roughly" save me 10p a shower based on the 10 minute shower I used to take - thats about £35 a year (ish). Now to convert the rest of my family.
ReplyDeleteI say the dirt on the car protects the paint - no car washing for me!
ReplyDeleteWe have navy showers, as for the toilet..."if it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow, let it mellow!"

I'm on a well and still try to conserve and use my grey water; but, I'm not as tight as I was in town when I was charged a small fortune for water. It was just myself and using the Navy shower method and still my water was almost $100 a month! So, I'm enjoying a little looser living with my well water. In addition, I live over an aquifer and all the water goes directly down. Even after a 'gully-washer' rain, my yard is dry within minutes after the storm.
