A walk in the snow

I've been a lazy bones today. Leisurely start, back to bed with a mug of coffee and the laptop. Then spend an hour lounging in the bath, reading a book. Yes, I did put the heating on for that, ha ha. After a cheese sandwich lunch I went to visit my friend, and went a walk with her and Henry choc lab around her village. This friendly horse came trotting across the field towards us wanting to say hello.
It was freezing but we were well wrapped up. Helen had her wellies on and I had my clumpy big boots on. It was hard to find the actual path, most of the time we were walking along the edges of muddy fields. Helen is adjusting her scarf, it was so thick it looked like a neck brace supporting her head, ha ha.
It was a lovely fresh crisp day, sorry there aren't many photo's but it was too cold to take my gloves off.
Afterwards it was back to Helen's for a lovely hot drink, and a catch up natter. I had hot red berry juice, it tastes like hot jelly, the sort you make from jelly cubes. I love hot fruit drinks, much better than tea. I think I'll be snuggled up in my bed early tonight, best place to be to keep warm. Toodle pip.

  2. We don`t have the snow yet, and I guess we shall possibly avoid it altogether here in Brighton. It`s been jolly cold today, but dry. I love the crisp winter days. Your pics look great!

  3. Hi Ilona,

One of my sisters this week told me about your blog which I am enjoying a lot for many reasons. I recently retired and turned 62, lived in England (both North London and Ware in Hertfordshire) many moons ago, and last but not least, actually enjoy being frugal (a trait past down from mom). I love all your detailed daily living tips, photos of the English countryside and frugal ideas. Even though I am located in Northern California we too are having one of our coldest winters so I totally understand wanting to keep warm these January days. Thanks Ilona for sharing yourself out in blogland!

    1. Hello Nancy, glad that you have found us here at Tightwad Towers. I always associate California with sunshine and surfing. It was hot when I went to Las Vegas in the autumn, but you might be further north than that.

  6. OOh look at all that lovely snow, we don't have any here, apart from a sprinkle on the distant Mendip hills. I thought of you today when I was jotting down prices and comparing them in the supermarkets, you would have been proud of me LOL
    Stay warm Ilona!

    1. Hello Cheryl, pleased to meet you, welcome. My computer man, or should I say ex computer man, has recently emigrated to your part of the world. He has posted pics on face book showing how hot it is there. Please send some sun our way for the spring and summer here.

  9. Bbrrrr ! It looks cold out there, but very pretty. No snow here as yet. There have been one or two attempts but nothing has settled. Today was very nice, sunny but cold. I went down to the prom and could see the snowcapped peaks of the lake district across the bay. It was beautiful.

I have gone right off coffee and my favorite hot drink at the moment is lemon, honey and hot water.

  11. Fantastic shots, Ilona. Looks wild and wooly weather. I'm off to sit by my pool to cool off. Too hot in the sun, so need to sit under the pool umbrella!

  12. You take wonderful photos, Ilona.

By the way, can you please give us an update of the kitties? I love hearing about them and hope they are snuggling up in the cold winter.

  13. What lovely photos of your winter walk...I'm normally afraid of horses but this one looks so freindly...I'd probably end up walking there every day just so I could give him an apple!

  15. Lovely pics, Ilona - what a cute horsey!

I am currently looking out over a frozen Milton Keynes. Not quite as pretty. The bus ride in this morning through the Northamptonshire/Buckinghamshire countryside was wondrous though - such a pity it will be dark on the way back. I love wintry landscapes.

  17. Beautiful snowy pictures! We had snow on the ground a couple of weeks ago, but none today; It's blue skies but very cold. I find it interesting to hear about your groceries and what you paid for them. I'd like to know...what are jelly cubes?
