It was such a lovely day today, I went a walk. I found a lovely little village. As I was passing the church a wedding had just taken place and the bride and groom were having their photo taken. The church bells were ringing to mark the happy occasion.
Next to the church is a pretty little cottage, almost being swamped by the masses of lavender in the tiny front garden.Round the back of the church are more cottages, each one has it's own parking space. I think these buildings used to be barns, a long time ago.
The old vicarage looks splendid, a beautiful period house.
In the High Street is a quaint B & B, someone is looking after the gardens at the front of the house.
Further up the High Street, another cottage. This one is at right angles to the road, and so has it's own drive in parking space.
This looks like a row of cottages, but is in fact one big house. A detached cottage stands on it's own on a corner plot.
This is the road into the village. It's tree lined with wide grass verges and lots of big detached houses.
Long sweeping driveway to this house. One gate for going in, and one for coming out.
I really like this one, it's called The White House, had to be didn't it.The churchyard looks neat and tidy.
This is the front gate of the church, leading out onto the road.
There are steps up to the front door of the pub.
The fragrance as you walk under this tree is divine. I could stand here for hours.
It's a shame the tiny flowers won't last forever.
Then I walked along a footpath behind the church.
It opens out to give wonderful views across the fields.
I didn't have to walk very far today to find this lovely village. It is my village, it's where I live. It's a place where I can walk about and chat, people are very friendly. The little black cat in the wedding picture is called Nicknack, it always comes to greet me when it sees me. The leaves growing on the detached cottage turn red in the autumn, a spectacular sight. The tree with the heavenly scent is at the end of my road, I can smell it in my garden. I know the lady who owns the B & B, and the lady who lives in the cottage next to the church. Round the back of the house that looks like a row of cottages is a public footpath. The people who live there have planted lots of raspberry bushes, and people can help themselves. I often pick a few to eat. It's a smashing place to live, I am very lucky. Have you had a nice Saturday. Hope your Sunday is brilliant.
Toodle pip.
Sweet little story, and nice ending! The smaller terrace cottages are very pretty. Are they affordable or expensive to buy?
ReplyDeleteHi Anon. I've checked the prices of similar properties in my village. A three bedroom detached cottage in the High Street is for sale at £169.950. Another three bedroom cottage nearby is £150,000. There is a small one bedroom cottage for £75,000, it has no front garden, a small back yard, and a long narrow back garden. The White House is for sale at £450,000.
DeleteIt is said that house prices in this part of the country are quite cheap compared to elsewhere, except for the north east where some properties are very cheap.
Thanks Ilona. It sounds reasonably affordable. I have a UK passport and read your blog to understand the cost of living. It sounds hard from what I read in the press, although you do lots of lovely free things, as I like to do. I like your love of nature, animals, craft and art, and good deals!
DeleteWhat a lovely village it looks Ilona, A very pleasant place to live :)
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! Lovely photos! Your so lucky to live in such a gorgeous corner of the world!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a episode of Escape th the Country. Divine.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have such beauty out your front door. Just lovely. And, so welcoming. The beauty in my part of the country comes from the foliage. We have such luscious tropical plants here. My area uses them to beautify the road ways and green areas. But, the buildings could never compare to what you have.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty ! I wondered who the cat was...he's walking as though he owns the place!
ReplyDeleteJane x
You're right Jane, Nicknack wanders around the church as if he owns it. He lives in a cottage nearby and is very friendly. He has a collar on with his name and phone number.
DeleteIt's a beautiful village!
ReplyDeletelovely photos.
ReplyDeleteit looks like a wonderful place to live.
I loved all the brickwork!
And Nicknack!
It is everything that I see I my mind when I read about English villages. You are very lucky to live there and it sounds like you definitely appreciate it and enjoy it.

You are very lucky Ilona to live in such a nice village....love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a lovely glimpse of an English Village.
ReplyDeleteIlona, you live in a really beautiful village! What I like the most about your walks is that you focus on the small things, like the lavender in front of the cottage and the scent of the tree.
ReplyDeleteIn the U.S. We have a saying, "Stop and smell the roses," but I often forget to do that. I live in a beautiful area but I often don't "see" the beauty around me.
It looks fabulous Ilona, can we all come and live there too?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very beautiful village.

ReplyDeleteInteresting way to introduce your village. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteMyra, from Winnipeg, Canada
What a kind thing to do Ilona-give praise to the village where you live. I love how you always look for the positive things in your life-so many people look only for the negatives. Catriona
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely village you live in. Thanks for sharing. You've inspired me to think about where I live and appreciate all the great things my village has to offer. Rushing backwards and forwards (work and two children), I don't often stop to "smell the roses". I will now!
ReplyDeleteLovely post and village Ilona.
ReplyDeleteNicknak sounds like a lovely cat!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful village! Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful place! You were so fortunate to find yourself there and , if I remember correctly, it was kind of a random thing.
ReplyDeleteI would live there in a heartbeat! JanF
Such a charming and beautiful village to live in, you are blessed. So lovely.I think I have village envy,ha, ha.The photo tour was very much appreciated and enjoyed. I particularly like the stone houses and the gardening talents that enhance and compliment each individual home.As mentioned, our debt free goal is being realized, and we will be moving to our new (old, for here)1847 Ontario gothic style home in Brighton, Ontario, and will be-TA DA-mortgage and debt free.Forgive me for braying, but I can't help myself!Have a good one, Destemona.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, hold your head up high and be proud.
DeleteMy kind of lifestyle and cottages!!!!! Beautiful divine :) love all the creepers and gardens around the houses perfect
