Fame at last for Joanna and her 1939 house

Hello. I went to see Joanna at her 1939 house today. You may remember I wrote about her in June 2013. I did four posts about her house because I took loads of photo's. The first one is here.  If you want to read all of them click on 'newest', when you get down to the bottom.


I passed her details on to the Yorkshire Post journalist a few weeks ago, with Joanna's permission, and her story is now out in the newspaper. Take a look at it here. You might guess what has happened, she has been inundated with requests for interviews and photographs. So much so that she is finding it a bit overwhelming and has brought in a friend to act as an agent and sort it all out for her. Unlike me, she would like to be paid for her time. I hope she makes a few bob out of it.

There is an article about her in the Daily Mail, which has some lovely photo's with it. She must have had a different photographer to me because they are a lot better than mine. Take a look here.

 Joanna doesn't have a computer or broadband so she is not able to see everything written about her. When she has some time to spare she will come here and I can show her. She is not up to speed with modern electronics and can just about manage her mobile phone, which she needs so her customers can contact her. She works part time as a cleaner in private houses.

I'm just off to update the walking group list, thanks to everyone for sending in your miles. There's no stopping some of you now you are on a roll. No matter how much or how little you do, every step is doing you good.

    I saw her story on the Yahoo news thing yesterday and wondered if it was the the same lady.

    You have solved a mystery - I have often seen this pretty and stylish lady cycling on the local roads. In fact, I am pretty sure I saw her a few days ago cycling with a young gent who was resplendent in plus fours, a jaunty cap and hand knitted pullover! What a delightful lady and what a great life style

      lovely story.

      I find it heartening that yet one more person manages to live as they choose. Too often relatives or society will pressure folks to "live like the rest". Very sad that. I find it a form of bullying.

    She was featured on Calender News tonight. Very nice piece about her life :) I hope she finds the man of her dreams that she was looking for .

      Good. Stress means different things to different people. Some people thrive on stress, others buckle. Not everyone wants to be in the press.

    I saw her story in the Metro yesterday and recognised her from your previous post. Love the fact she is living life her own way :-)

    Joanna is a very attractive woman living a very unique lifestyle. Personally I hope never to go back to pre-plumbing and pre-indoor toilet days. Been there. Done that. I hope she finds a man who can understand and thrive in the same lifestyle she has chosen for herself.

    The Daily Mail had an article in 2011 about a man who lives in the same era. At least at the time of the article, he was single.

      I do admire folks like this man, and this woman, (and this blog owner) who have the courage and tenacity to live as they choose, and not as society "pressures".

    Joanne looks amazing. I don't think her lifestyle is for me but I could probably cope with it if I really had to.

      Nor me, Cherie. Although my life is basic, I do like a few mod cons, like a machine to do my washing, and a vacuum to pick up the dirt off the floor. I could happily live in the 1960's though.

    The press photographer did indeed do a brilliant job with her photos. She has a lovely smile. Her home would make a great film location, the film makers wouldn't need to bring any of their own props!

    BTW Is it still snowing there? Sunshine, showers and a bit of a breeze down here in the south.

    It's really great and every Good Luck to her. I love some of the things she has in her home and I have a few things of 40'/50's/60'/70's era myself and they fit very nicely into my home now. I would rather have quality secondhand than the newer type rubbish of recent years. However I could not live without some of the modern days items we have these days though. x Rae x

    Oh my goodness, I have spent the last 30 minutes reading every article and going through all of your posts. I could never do this, but I do appreciate the need for a simpler life. Technology has brought with it much stress to the human condition and slower, simpler times is a way of minimizing some of that unneeded tension. Great post and great links . . . thank you :)

    There is so much I have learned from the generosity of others sharing on the internet (ILONA =) ) that I would miss it terribly. But I really do admire people who steadfastly live as they choose.

    I did not do as much for February as far as miles. Only 81 for me. But that does put me at 173 thus far. Not too bad, really.

    Wow, I really loved this post! I read up on Joanne some more and I am really impressed with her courage to do her own thing. Kudos to anyone who lives as they see fit, even if it's not what everyone is doing!
