Hello. Tis the season of barbecue's, and bouncy castles, and loud disco music, and kids running amok and laughing and screaming their little heads off. Oh the joys of having a birthday party in your back garden on a nice summers day. No, not me, the neighbour. It's sheer purgatory from this side of the hedge, only the lawnmower drowns out the noise. To be fair, they don't do it that often, so one day indoors won't hurt me. Yesterday I was popping back inside because it was too hot, now I need to come in to rest my ears. My neighbour on the other side must like it, he has his patio doors wide open. I shall escape and go and do my walk.
Bye for now. Toodle pip
Hi Ilona, hope you enjoy your walk this evening. How many miles did you get up to in May? I'm having trouble reading comments made on the walks challenge page after 2nd May which is why I am commenting here. Is it me? (probably), my tablet (possibly) or the weather (always useful to blame when all else fails!) Really like your latest artwork -so bright and colourful and the composition is very pleasing too. Vicki
ReplyDeleteHello Vicki. I don't count my mileage month by month, I carry it over for a total. There are 224 comments on that page so a lot of scrolling to get to the bottom. I'm not sure if there is a difference between viewing on a PC, or a tablet, or a hand held device. You should be able to read the post as I update it, you are on 530 at the moment, which is very good.
DeleteI laughed till I cried when I read this post, as your post mirror my feelings regarding the downside of Summer, I too had to close my windows and put my ear plugs in, nothing worse than listening to other peoples loud music. But hey, lots more good points about summer to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteProbably your lawn mower gets on their nerves too. Why do you think the hideous noise of a lawn mower is preferable to children having some fun? I have gardening neighbours and they drive me mad with the noise all their tools make. Then there are the smelly bbq's on the other side and the next house along has the children playing football and kicking and banging it against the walls.
ReplyDeleteAs I type someone has just started up something and yes I think at 7.11 p.m someone thinks it's good to do some mowing. So am I seen as perfect paragon of virtue myself? No, I think not. Gardening types often don't like wildlife apart from specially invited select guests of the bird kind. So squirrels, pigeons, other birds and foxes are are seen as vermin. Their pristine gardens are to be put above living creatures who need hospitable places to thrive. The way they talk is that they would quite like these creatures to vanish. The worst of which is the CAT who is often especially despised and even badly treated at times.
I have a cat and if she were to dare to set paws in their garden it would be sprayed with water. She doesn't as she is fully supervised. So I am guilty of being a bad neighbour too because I have a furry friend.
So I am surrounded by cat hating, horrendous noise making plant growers and noisy children and smelly cooking while I bring cats into the mix. Basically neighbours are all pretty awful but we must appreciate that we do all contribute to that. Therefore, I expect when you were hammering your summerhouse together and painting it with perhaps toxic and nasty smelling paint or if you are mowing or strimming, then people aren't seeing you as an ideal quiet neighbour either and have to run indoors or close their windows. That is just what I have to do.
As it happens I will take the happy if noisy children over most gardeners as they seem to be particularly miserable and curmudgeonly officious types. I think they mostly enjoy dead heading plants. The noise from gardeners is relentless too, not just the odd day here and there. Selfish is not the word for many of them.
I've only been gone an hour and look what I come back to. Some odd bod having a rant about something or other, half of it I can't understand. I hope you feel better after getting that off your chest.
DeleteHilarious! ANONYMOUS tries to judge you from your post, and then goes on to berate her OWN NEIGHBORS!
DeleteHey, Anonymous, you might want to check out the post from a couple of days ago. Yeah, the one with all her kitties.
Hope your walk was wonderful, Ilona. The beach was gorgeous yesterday.
Toole pip! = )

Sounds like time for you to move from your neighbourhood. I must say in your favour that lawn mowers are a pain early on a Sunday morning when one wants to sleep in. Some people in my street are using electric mowers which are whisper quiet.
DeleteHope you enjoyed your walk, and I hope the noise is less now. There are all types of neighbors, but I'm glad that you are willing to overlook the noise of a children's party occasionally.
ReplyDeleteHi, I don't mind children playing and laughing but it's screaming children I can not stand but that is bearable to my neighbors one is English and was F THIS and that earlier to his wife of foreign origin and screams in her own language at him and there 4 year old, I am just waiting fir him to say the F word to them and wonder what they will do. I must admit when they are out it is so peaceful you can hear a pin drop and I live in walking distance of Heathrow airport and the motorway.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't the anonymous who rants and raves leave her/his name are they frightened of being recognized?

I love kid, fun, laughter and play, but on any given day, might feel the same as you-just want a little quiet, and others I might join in the noisd. We all have different points of bother on different days, but you shared in humour.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. Oh dear oh dear. One despairs. Tolerance. Perhaps. Keep on Ilona x
ReplyDeleteI was not going to waste time in replying to your nasty comments but then thought why should I remain silent.
ReplyDeleteYou speak for yourself ANONYMOUS I am a gardener and am a happy and contented person with lots of hobbies and friends, maybe you need to get out and enjoy life more.

Well you certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons but have a sensible attitude which I think makes you a good neighbour! I am so
ReplyDeletelucky to have wonderful neighbours but, again, we all have sensible attitudes to various situations which may arise. Sue M
This post was written with tongue in cheek and is not a true reflection of my neighbours general behaviour. On the whole everyone rubs along nicely, the odd party is tolerated. It's a very nice place to live.
ReplyDeleteI feel for you we have builders next door, endless power tools, swearing and tormenting the dogs on the other side who we normally never hear , we live in the bog end of nowhere so we usually have the constant lawn mowers and in the winter endless chainsaws .
ReplyDeleteAlthough our neighbours are ok,
ReplyDeleteI'd still prefer to live off the beaten track with no neighbours.
Children's laughter is a lovely sound, and with some music and the knowledge that people are having fun and enjoying life, is a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteWe recently had some bonfires in the garden and we naturally apologised to our neighbour, however, he told us he'd opened all his windows to enjoy the sight, smell and sound of it all, he smiled and cheerfully said that a lot of people would pay good money to see a fire light like.
It's a wonderful way to look at the world...
I agree, children's laughter is a lovely sound, I like to see them playing, but children screaming intermittently over an hour or so is not very nice. I like music, but am not keen on the repetitive boom boom boom stuff that teenagers listen to these days. Maybe I am out of touch. as I say, it was only for one day, I'll get over it.
DeleteI live near a child minder's house, I love to sit in the garden and hear the children playing, I find it life affirming and sometimes, inadvertently very funny. Oscar and Frank, you know who you are!
