Hello. I dropped lucky yesterday. I stopped off at the Cash and Carry on my way to town and there is also a junk warehouse which is not open very often. The man was there, with second hand furniture spread about on the yard, so I had a nosy inside. I found a brown table lamp with a green shade, the perfect colour. He wanted £1 for it. I have scrubbed the shade with soapy water, it has come up a treat, and added some pink trim to the top and bottom. There was already some white trim on it which looked a bit tatty, so I just stuck the pink over the top. I'm very chuffed with it.
This is it's permanent place next to me when I am on the computer, it is within easy reach so I can switch it on and off without getting up. I only need a light when I use the keyboard.
This is the brown lamp which it came with, it looks ancient, like the old fashioned bakerlite. I wasn't expecting it to be working, but it does. I've given it a clean up, it was filthy, and put this old shade on it which looks perfect. It must be about 40 years old, it was on a lamp which I bought for my mum, which I am still using on my bedside ironing table.
Right, it's the 1st of the month, you know the drill, this is where all the members of the Walking Group congregate together to share their stories. I want to know how you have been doing, or not been doing. Do you need praise from me, or a kick up the bum?
I have finished the first three months of the year on 375 miles. I would have done more if it wasn't for the twisted muscle in my leg, but that's gone now thank goodness. The weather is hopefully getting better so I am looking forward to a few day walks this month.
So how is it for you, don't be shy, spill the beans.
Lunch time, belly is rumbling, so I'll leave it with you. Lets have those miles come flooding in. You can update at any time in the month, just come back to this post on the 1st.
Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon. Have a nice weekend.
Toodle pip
Sonja, North Carolina 70 miles as of 3/31/17.

ReplyDeleteDid 84 miles this month totaling 231 happy with that not going today as its doing that word starting with a p down here today happy walking everyone xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona, a little better this month-100 miles exact, which brings my total to 227 I am quite pleased i have improved this month, thanks for doing this for all of us Lady.x
ReplyDeleteHi , March total 152miles , grand total 299 miles , so few miles in hand in case of illness ! Really enjoying the challenge, thank you x
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Shelly. A challenge gives us something to aim for.
DeleteHi Ilona and walkers of the world! 112 miles completed in March bringing my total to 347, a few more than at this time last year. Did about 5 this morning, so April's off to a good start too. Brilliant recycling of the lamp - a real pop of colour.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing Vick, Your dedication is admirable.
DeleteThank you! I could say it was a struggle and a sacrifice but it isn't - I enjoy every minute! More or less every day, I have to visit my mother at the other side of the village and if I'm not taking heavy shopping or meals to her, I walk. Measured in the car it's 1.1 miles each way so am soon up to my daily target. No wind, blue sky, so I'm off right now! V
DeleteHello! It still isn't a daily habit for me but i have to do better each month ... 16 + 22 + 30 = 68 so far. Not much but more than i would have done without this challenge. I like the evening walks after dinner best. Wendy
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, as long as you are enjoying it at your own pace, keep going.
DeleteI need a kick up the bum.. I am ashamed to say that I have only managed 61 this month
ReplyDeleteHi, That lamp is so cheerful looking!
ReplyDeleteI did 17.75 miles this past month. Sounds paltry, but I lost fully half the month to two winter storms and a bad virus. I did manage to increase my daily distance slightly over the month. I am planning for 40 miles in April, with a total goal of 5oo miles. Thanks again for sponsoring this--it is helpful to know that others are out there trying to increase their fitness/mileage also.
That's great. Set your own mini targets, we are all in this together.
DeleteTotal of 177. Started great with 2 walks a day while doggy sitting my sister's Labrador teenager but then spring work took over due to earlier bad weather - long days catching up.
ReplyDeleteHope to do better this month. su
Hi. Still nine months left to go, plenty of opportunity to to bump up your miles. It's a long term thing, keep going.
DeleteHello Ilona. Congratulations on your wonderful total. Glad to hear that your leg is better.
ReplyDeleteMy total so far is 295. I was aiming at 300 so am very pleased. Hope everyone else is reaching their personal targets. Don't worry what anyone else is doing!
I found it a huge challenge to go out when it was cold, wet and windy!
I'm hoping this sun will shine more in April and the wind will drop. Sue
Hi. You should be pleased, that is a good total for three months.
DeleteStiil just around 50 and no long walks in there. Light nights are making me hopeful for more miles. Only 130 in total. Catriona
ReplyDeleteHi. Yes, I have been doing a few walks after the evening meal, about 7 o clock time.
DeleteI haven't done very well, but I've started wearing a pedometer and counting my steps daily, aiming to reach 10,000 or more each day x
ReplyDeleteJayne, you are doing well by taking part in it. Make your own targets, every little success will spur you on.
DeleteHi, I'm only on 54 miles this month I'm afraid due to Plantar Fascilitis. I am hoping to catch up over the next few months, I am determined to make the 1000 miles in 2017! I tell myself that not giving up is the most important thing - you have to be in it to win it!
ReplyDeleteHi. Oh dear, do as much as you can. You're right, it's a long term challenge, your miles will fluctuate, don't give up.
DeleteHello Ilona, greetings from Spain. I´m checking in for Wences who did 209 miles this month bringing his total to 540 so far. One day he walked too far, it got dark and he had to ring his son to go and take him back home in the car. :-) Happy Abril everyone.
ReplyDeleteThat made me laugh out loud,it just tittled me.Hope his son did'nt mind x
DeleteVery funny, tell him to take a torch next time.
DeleteI think I've only done 40 miles this month.I've never measured it before.I've now got a pedometer and its got various settings.I am walking for 1and half hours a day.Too much talking to other dog walkers I expect. It is tiring though is my excuse.,up and down slopes and today I slid down a steep slate pit on my bottom for fun.Dogs never joined in.It is quite a strenuous route.x
ReplyDelete40 for March. As I never did any walking (except dog walking) I think this is good. I felt bad the last 2 months because my mileage was so low but reality hit me and for a non-walker I think I'm doing ok. Weather in New Jersey was snowy, rainy and cold last month but when I could I walked.
ReplyDeleteHi Trish. You will have good days and bad days, as long as you pick yourself up and give yourself another chance to catch up that's fine.
Delete80 miles for me this month. Pleased with that. Tricia & Lucy
ReplyDeleteMy miles for March are 53.7. Miles year to date 207.4. Happy spring to everyone🙂
ReplyDeleteMargaret in Maryland
Was aiming higher but managed 81.5 thru March which is at least heading in the right direction. Running total now 188.2 miles.
ReplyDeleteOdette
8 miles this month. Natalie
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona , this is not about my walking miles , I have only recently found your blog so excuse me ,I just have to let you know I have just got back from yellow sticker shopping ,I was a bit late I think, however I still managed to get 8 bags of different vegs and herbs for 31p saving me £5.89 on the original price, so its veg for 2 weeks then soooup.x Thanks so much for your help I am trying to wind down and retire but very scared of the financial effect as my pension does not start until next July, I am one of the women who missed out, I will be nearly 65 then and I do quite a physical job, but your wise words have help me so much ,so thanks again Ilona they should make you prime minister, thought that would make you laugh xx
ReplyDeleteHi Bee, I'm glad you are finding something useful here. I like comparing the normal price to the yellow sticker price and working out the difference. Gives me a buzz.
DeleteDon't be scared, just remember that you are in control of your spending. You might have to rethink your priorities, but remember it's not about cutting down and depriving yourself, it's about doing things differently. Bring some little pleasures into your life and don't dwell on the cruise you are no longer able to afford.
Hi Bee, wishing you well, I took early retirement at 58 as my job was a physical one and was affecting my health. The government is choosing to ignore that not everyone works in an office, and many people just cannot do the more manual jobs when they reach certain ages, my retirement age was increased by 6 years. I've found Ilona's ideas really helpful, I've always loved shopping and am the sort of person who gets tempted by stuff esp in Poundland and Primark etc but I've managed to get this under control. It's freed up space in my home and also I like the idea of saving on the unimportant stuff thus freeing up money for more interesting things! Thanks Ilona for all your tips x
DeleteChecking in to report 60km for me in March .... for a running total of 210km so far. Cheers, Nanny Anny in Canada
ReplyDeleteOnly 42 miles for me but I've done my best at the moment. I can't walk every day because of pain in my hip, but I have managed two 8 mile walks which represents a definite increase in stamina for me, will keep at it.
ReplyDeleteYou have done better than me Kate.I can't remember the last time I did a long walk.Good on you x
DeleteThat's kind of you to say Flis, I find I do better by doing longer walks but spacing them out. Initially I was doing 2 miles every day but my hip was so painful I had to stop, am still experimenting really. Good luck with your walking, I think it's great that we are all getting out there.
DeleteOnly 15.6 miles this month, total 78.1 for the year.
ReplyDeleteJoan, Michigan
The lamp is looking great with the shade. Brown one is also looking good. Love the pink trim. You bought the trim from craft store?
ReplyDeleteHi. No, I don't buy trim from the Scrapstore, I have got loads collected over the years. People give it to me, car boot sales, and charity shops. Can't remember where I got this from.
DeleteMy aim were 100 miles in March, and I managed 104! I am so happy about it. Some days ago, I told an Italian lady about it, and she said: Oh, you do your own "Mille Miglia"(which is a very famous car race in Italy, though I never heard of it)!
ReplyDeleteWell done Hilde. You're doing really well.
DeleteI just looked up the Mille Miglia race, it´s a ralley from Brescia to Rome and back, it would be a wonderful walking route instead of walking round my village every day.
ReplyDeleteI've just googled it too.It reminded me of my father who lived in Lazio, about 75 miles the other side of Rome. Thanks for reminding me x
DeleteHi Ilona, A bit behind schedule as I've been ill this month. Total to date is 230 miles.
ReplyDeleteHi. Still going well, hope you feel better soon.
DeleteHave a nice month everyone!
ReplyDeleteI'm up to 272km. Note to self:must do better this month!
ive got to say it, was the lamp plastic? because that looks awfully like an art deco bakelite lamp base which can fetch daft money . Cant say a lot i once emulsioned over a clarice cliff vase because it was ugly
ReplyDeleteHi, I think it is bakelite. It looks as though the bottom has been removed, the flex updated, and the bottom replaced.
DeleteHope you can resit the temptation to give this could be worth a lot money Bakelite lamp a make over....lol
Delete114 for March Ilona!
ReplyDelete79 miles for me, Ilona. Sorry it's late but we just moved home. Love Helen xx
ReplyDeleteI have a bakerlite Solitaire set which belonged to my Grannie. The colour is very similar to your lamp base, Ilona. Susan (wife of Edward)
ReplyDelete107.5 miles for march, total this year so far is 266 miles. It's surprising how fast it adds up. I do little and often so it's easy to keep it going.
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona
ReplyDeleteMy miles up to 31st March is 203
Hazel Dxb
I did 88 miles for march and total to date is 238. Not bad but I'd still like to bump it up.
ReplyDeleteI did 128 miles in March, which is an increase from last month!
ReplyDeleteOoops, I was so excited that I forgot to put my moniker. Michele in Australia.
ReplyDeleteHi there, 90 miles this month for a total this year of 290!
ReplyDeleteHello Ilona, I hit post before I got to say thank you again for doing this walking challenge. This year I am walking much more than last year and really enjoying it. In march, I did 4-5 miles a day! Alas I took a week vacation with no walks and that demolished my averages and total ;). Thank you for starting me on this path of walking, it has changed my health and my attitude for the better.
DeleteHello, Ilona -
ReplyDeleteI walked 50 miles this month. Health issues slowed me down. Starting off April with the goal to do better. Thanks for your inspiration!!!
Hi Ilona, can't remember if I posted or not. Marches total is 145 giving me a yearly total of 437. Amanda in Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteAmy in Florida checking in - my march miles are 33.49, total of 174.91 for the year. Not the best month, but I did lose over 5 lbs. this month!! So I'm happy about that. I am going to try to at least double that this month....have a wonderful week, everyone!
ReplyDeleteHello - 109 miles for March, making a total of 334 so far. Have been enjoying getting out and about and seeing the change with Springtime. Sarah.
ReplyDelete126 miles for March, total 348. Onwards and upwards now spring is here.
ReplyDelete330 miles this year until the 3end of March.
