Hello. The fridge was bare yesterday, now it is almost full but not quite. I did the yellow sticker shop last night, arrived at 7pm. There wasn't much on offer, and the third sticker had not been done. I decided to go around the shop for the other things I needed, then come back when they had marked it down for the third and last time.
I still managed to get enough, though not much variety. These are my greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, sugarsnap peas, courgettes, and iceberg lettuce. There were a few other things but not what I really wanted.
I took the two packs of pasta and pine nut salad, I really like this.Strawberries and melon. Would have liked some berries but none on offer. Never mind, I have frozen blueberries and cherries in the freezer. I like fruit with my breakfast cereal.
Three pots of houmous. Nice with crusty bread.
Hot cross buns, and a seeded very long bagette. These buns are lovely, they are caramel flavour.
These yogurt drinks had been reduced because the packaging was damaged. They are not out of date.
I had some bananas as well, forgot to photograph them. Nine bananas for 26p, a bargain.
Not as much as I have had before, but enough. There were only a couple of other people looking for stickers, so no scramble. I used some Tesco vouchers, the ones they send in the post, to get my bill reduced even more. £33 was knocked down to £19. I don't usually spend these on food because you can get more for them if you use them for other things, but I can't think of anything else I want or need.
So, it will be broccoli every day this week, I love those greens. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.
Toodle pip
I absolutely love broccoli in every way. That and cauliflower. Can’t get enough of the stuff. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThere was some cauliflower reduced but it was a bit grotty. Not surprised people didn't want to buy it.
DeleteWhat a delicious healthy haul, well perhaps the hot cross buns are a bit naughty, ha ha! I like raw cauliflower on my salad, I've not tried raw broccoli though. Do you eat either of those raw? Brussels and strawberries, my fave, though not together!
ReplyDeleteYes, naughty hot cross buns, but at that price I'll have some. Mind you, they were scrabbling for the donuts and fancy cakes which I walked away from.
DeleteI don't eat vegetables raw because it would take me ages to chew them, and I don't want to put any extra wear and tear on my teeth.
When I get tired of a bargain, like your broccoli, I blanch it and put it in the freezer for another day.
ReplyDeleteI think you have done really well there Ilona.I had just a few reduced items recently from the Co op & Lidl & I was thrilled. It's nice to try something different that I wouldn't buy at full price x
ReplyDeleteA few reduced items are better than none. I am mostly unlucky in the Co op.
DeleteYes, Im not lucky in the coop either :( and it's on my doorstep almost.
Deletebroccoli my favourite veg- enjoy
ReplyDeleteThe achievement of a good haul!!
ReplyDeleteHot cross buns were a good buy - I toast them if they gonna bit stale x
ReplyDeleteGreat bargains! The pine nut salad sounds yummy. I love pine nuts in salads and pasta dishes, but here (US) they are soooooo expensive.
ReplyDeleteI would be making cream of broccoli soup with one of those stalks! You did very well indeed.
ReplyDeleteI love broccoli. If I get a lot and want to make it last longer, I blanche it and put it in the freezer. You have lots of good and healthy food.
ReplyDeleteI love broccoli so i would have snapped them up too.Cant help but notice the original prices on all the stickers.Tesco is so much dearer than Aldi.I would only use them now for buying yellow stickers.I couldnt afford to get my fortnightly shop there now...although i have noticed the odd Aldi prices shooting up!!.The cat food i get from there has gone up 10p a box which all adds up with having 5 cats...but its still cheaper than elsewhere!! Debi,xx
ReplyDeleteI still get a few things from Aldi, but yes, you are right, their prices are going up. As in all shopping, it's about knowing what you are prepared to pay for something, and walking away when it's too expensive.
DeleteGreat bargains, I try and cram as much green stuff into our diets as possible. Lovely stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love broccoli and cauliflower too, but I'm not very good at cooking them. Karen
ReplyDeleteTry steaming them and don't let them get soft and mushy.
DeleteI love a bargain too. Shopping at the supermarkets here is very expensive even at reduced prices. We tend to rely on shopping at the markets where prices are often much cheaper. We look for the bargains and cook around them. The other bonus is that I don't bring home heaps of plastic as I either re-use the ones I have or use my bags made from rags.
