Hello and Good Morning. More snow overnight, can't see many people going to work, and no school again.
I had better get this post out early because I know the Walking Group members will be queuing up to post their mileage. So lets have it from you, how far did you manage to walk? Did you get out every day, or did you say stuff it I can't be bothered? I must say, I felt like saying stuff it a few times, but I mostly dragged myself out, even as late as 9pm some nights. Procrastinating, shall I shan't I, does not make for a healthy lifestyle. Getting out there, ready to tackle anything keeps the body fit, and the brain alive. Stay positive and reap the benefits.
Off you go then, let's hear about your successes, and failures. Have you done well, or not so well? The main point is that you don't give up, think of how your body needs to do this.
Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

hi there! i wanted to reach the 40mile mark for feb, but not quite there due to blizzards etc in last 2 days - no way was i going out in that - we've had red travel-alert since yest. So total for jan&feb = 54.9 miles.
ReplyDeletestay warm all!!!
The weather has been hellish, and still is. I am not going out today. You've done well.
Deletethx for the encouragement! snow thick still in edinburgh but not so stormy.. hoping to venture out today; needing the fresh air.
Delete33.55 miles in February for a total of 67.55 year to date. With my goal set for 500 miles I will need to step it up. Hopefully warm weather will allow me to get outside more. Here in the southeast portion of the US we still have this month where any weather is possible.
ReplyDeleteI think we all need a bit of warm weather at the moment. Well done.
DeleteHello Ilona, Sonja reporting from NC @84 miles February 2018.
ReplyDeleteVery good, keep it up.
DeleteHi Ilona, I walked 69 miles. There were a few mornings when I just did not have the energy for lots of different reasons. In March there will be no excuses, and I will be better prepared. Happy walking everyone😊 Lisa W. Tasmania, Australia.
ReplyDeleteHappy walking Lisa. Keep going, a new month ahead, time to make improvements.
DeleteThanks Ilona, sorry did not see your post asking for January and February, I read it after I posted my kms/miles for February only. My total for Jan. and Feb. is 240 miles.
DeleteThe dog and I have clocked up 94 miles this month, pretty good considering how challenging the ground conditions have been (wet and very slippery clay tracks). I know that there were horrible days when we wouldn't have clocked up even half a mile, had it not been for the challenge! No chance of a decent walk today with the gales and snow drifts. We have done a total of 211 miles.
ReplyDeleteWell done Elaine and the dog. The weather is awful here, so I'm not going out.
DeleteI managed 102.78 miles as per my FitBit and 4 lbs weight loss. My total for the year walking is 216.53 miles and I am down 39 1/2 lbs over the past eight months. As I said on my blog post today, I am in the slow and steady lane for the weight loss, as that works better for me. Well done everyone on your walking. Aiming for 100 miles in March and 5 1/2 lbs in weight loss.
ReplyDeleteCongrats-I'm inspired.
DeleteGood morning from the USA, Ilona and fellow walkers :)
DeleteI walked 124 miles in February which gives me a total of 228 miles for the year so far. Also down 6.6 pounds. I've lost 56 pounds since last year, I have 40 pounds left to go. Hoping to lose that over the course of this year because I have carried an almost extra 100 pounds around for decades. Several times this past month I have said 'stuff it' and sat on my butt instead of exercising but I ask myself "What would Ilona think?" and that gets me up and moving LOL Wow, everyone is doing well which is fantastic. Thanks for providing the motivation Ilona! This is working :D
Sandy/California
You are doing so well, Gill. You have the right attitude.
DeleteStick at it Sandy, it's good to hear you are making an effort. You will get there with the weight loss.
DeleteHad a really good month, helped by going out for 3 days on a longer walk with OH. Managed 95.5 miles this month, bringing my total to 176 miles.....and the most exciting bit of news is that I think I can just detect a little bit of 'toning' happening to my legs ....oh brill!
ReplyDeleteWell done and motivating!
DeleteOh Angela, I'm excited for you. Keep those legs moving.
Delete100 miles for month of February from Ren Tin Tin in Croatia. Not so great this month due to the Adriatic Tundra! 225 as of today is my total walked since Jan 1St.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing really well. Those are good numbers.
DeleteNo where near my target due to cold, snow, and other ills, but I'm in for 33 in February. Better than sitting on my butt entirely I guess. 60 is my March goal.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you don't stop completely, keep plodding on.
DeleteWell, I'm pleased to say I'm getting out more and going for longer walks. Got a meter from the library to track some walks. Eating better, following Dr Chatterjee on the four pillars, only eat between 9am-6pm, cut out carbs and some dairy, sleep and eating more veg. walked about 30 miles but not so much focussed on the miles but doing something. Snow called for today so I walked around my pool and deck area to get some movement. Roll on spring... ps: I have a top which was too tight, wore it the other day, my guide to how I'm doing, no scales to check with.
ReplyDeleteSounds good, Dawn, and that Doctor Rangan know what he's talking about.
DeleteDriving two hours to and from the hospital and sitting visiting with my Mother has not been helping me meet my goal for February. However, a recent warm spell which melted all the snow did make it easier to walk. I was able to do 55 miles this month which is an increase over January. Hoping for another increase in mileage next month. Patricia in Canada
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will do better in March. Keep at it.
DeleteHi Ilona,
ReplyDeleteFebruary was a better month, more walking and more enthusiasm. Averaged almost 2.5 miles a day, bringing the year total to 133. No weather excuses here in Arizona :) I was thinking of this group a few days ago while I was walking and smiled, how fun to think of people all around the world, out in the snow, sun, and wind, all trudging away. Makes a world of difference in my life as to how I feel both body and mind! Happy March!
Yes, we walk in all weathers, don't we. I sometimes think about those walking in teeshirts and shorts, while I am wrapped up in a hat and gloves.
Delete95 muddy miles for Feb, total to date 195. First walk of 'spring' today was a 4 mile slog through a blizzard and bitter sub zero wind. Now thawing out in front of the fire .Odette
ReplyDeleteSounds awful, Odette, but give yourself a round of applause, you did it.
DeleteHi Ilona,
ReplyDeleteI walked 107 miles and was out everyday. We have a lot of snow and its been very cold but the last few days have been above freezing so better mileage. I walk outside every day. I agree with Hilogene who said its motivating to think people are out walking all across the world. Thanks to you Ilona.
Glad to hear you are dedicated, Jane. I hope our warmer weather comes soon.
DeleteI am very glad to see the end of February. There were too many sad things for people I care about, and the weather was miserable. It was -20 F overnight, warmed up to 10F by the time I went out. The wind blew 40 mph with 60mph gusts for what seemed like a week straight. And it snowed a couple times. HOWEVER; when I added up the total it is 109 miles for Feb, and I had 108 for January. I give the credit to you lot, because when I thought of not walking I remembered it would soon be time to post the totals. Here is March and the sun is shining, and there is no snow underfoot today.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just get a crappy month, and it's hard to go on. But, hey you did it, and now ready to face another new month. Best of luck.
DeleteI should have added to my post, my miles are from Fitbit so they include all miles walked in the course of the day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that. As long as you are happy with your progress, I am.
DeleteI walked 42 miles this month.Sadly no walk today as the snow & ice is too bad here.I haven't missed a walk for 2 years & I feel guilty because of the dogs.I do have those grippers for my boots but they keep coming off.I can't walk on ice.I hate staying indoors though &:I've kept my Jim jams in all day.The dogs have played in the garden for a while.Hope its safe to go out for a walk tomorrow x
ReplyDeleteI walked as far as the village shop today, not going any further, it's hellish out there.
DeleteHello all,
ReplyDelete79 miles for Feb , running total 152 miles for the year .
Cheers Shelly.
Fantastic Shelly. You're well on the way to the 1000 miles.
DeleteI ended up walking 85 miles in February. I enjoyed the walking, but the cold wind of last week ... brrr.
ReplyDeleteloooking forward to a nice and warm March!
Marie-Paule
Yes, the cold wind is awful. I wear a heavy jacket with a furry hood zipped up to my nose. It's snug and warm around my head.
Delete75 this month 129 in total weather is not helping is it some making up to do hope we get a good summer . hope everyone is taking care if they are brave enough to go out it can only get better I hope .Kath K
ReplyDeleteHi Kath. The summer will arrive, hopefully, ha ha. Then I expect you to double up on the walking. Only joking.
DeleteHaven't even been out to the bin today to cold lol .I will improve I promise xxx.
DeleteHi Everybody,
ReplyDeletegreat to hear of your progress. It's all so inspiring. I managed 89 "boots on" miles this month. I'm really pleased with that as February is a short month. We actually had some great walking weather but avoiding the mud is always tricky. I like to walk in the morning when I can. I love to be out when the frost is still on the ground.
February's miles takes my total so far this year to 164...so 2 miles short of the target, but I'm feeling positive with the spring fast approaching. We won't mention the blizzard outside at the moment :0)
Jacquie x
It is a lot easier when the ground is hard. I have boots on even though most of my walking is on tarmac.
DeleteTarmac is a good option when it's muddy isn't it. Just to be clear I count outdoor intentional miles done in shoes too. An example would be that I choose to park a little further away from my work than I have to. That way I do half a mile on the way in and the same at the end of the day. Just getting 1 mile of outdoor walking in on a work day really helps my total.
DeleteJacquie x
69 miles for me in February. I like to get a start in the morning so I’m not under pressure in the day. Natalie
ReplyDeleteMornings are a good time to get out. I should do that more often. Most of mine are around 4pm - 5pm.
DeleteHello everyone. You all seem to have done really well despite some dreadful obstacles.
ReplyDeleteI have done 201 miles total so far but like many of you it was only the thought of the shame of having walkless days in my record book that drove me on.
I have started March badly by not walking today but 55 mile an hour winds and below freezing temperatures put me off! Tomorrow I’ll have no excuse! Sue.
It's too bad for me to walk today, so you are not alone. The wind is howling and the ground is frozen. Staying safe is priority.
DeleteHello Ilona and my fellow walkers. This is me signing in with 94.9 Miles for February and a running total of 198.3 Miles for 2018. I was desperately wanting to get into 3 figures but the last few days have been too cold for me! Here's hoping for a bit of warmth in March. Andrew.
ReplyDeleteHello Andrew, we are all struggling with the wind and snow. Your mileage is looking good to me.
DeleteJenette Palmer - 60.4 miles for February- not brilliant but better than last month and I promised myself I would do more and my target for next month is to do more than 60.4
ReplyDeleteHaven’t done any today moms pipes completely frozen so no water got the kitchen tap flowing but no bathroom.
Dud some nice walks around the lanes near my house. Thank you from Jenette
Thanks for checking in, you're allowed to have some days off, as long as you don't stop altogether. Hope you get the pipes sorted out.
DeleteHi Ilona only 91 miles this month due to illness amongst other things, well done to everybody.
ReplyDelete91 is very good, hope you are feeling better.
DeleteNot much better than Jan I am disappointed. But my miles are actually walking for exercise not all day. So here goes 25. Total 45. Will try harder for March. L
ReplyDeleteJust keep on keeping on, every step is good for your well being.
DeleteHi Ilona, 110 miles for me so total of 210 miles. Congratulations to everyone especially those doing it tough in the cold. I know that my numbers will go down once the sunshine and warmth disappear. For those in the midst of bad weather stay safe and warm. Lisa NSW Australia
ReplyDeleteVery good mileage, I am picturing you in the sunshine, and craving for summer here.
DeleteHi Ilona, 71 miles for Feb, total of 152 so far, will pull up my socks this month now things are cooling off a bit. Congrats to everyone no matter how much they have done !! Joy Central Vic Australia
ReplyDeleteHi Joy. Keep walking, you are doing just fine.
DeleteHi everyone...My mileage for this month has been way down and not worth recording...I've been visiting a poorly relative in hospital so time hasn't been on my side either ...Hopefully the weather will start improve next week and I'll back on track...
ReplyDeleteThere are going to be some bum months when walking has to take a back seat. Try your best to get back into it.
DeleteOnly 52 miles this month due to a bad chest infection. Had to rely on my daughter to take the dogs out but feeling much better now. Hoping for warmer weather soon
ReplyDeleteLook after your health first, glad you are feeling better. Warm weather on it's way.
DeleteHi,all--I managed just over 21 miles in February, all but one walk in the second half of the month. The first part of February was brutal here in New Hampshire with a lot of ice and snow. I'm looking forward to spring!
ReplyDeleteI think we are all looking forward to better weather, you did very well in adverse conditions.
DeleteI walked 100 miles in February - really enjoyed it. its dark when we leave so the moon and stars are still out and sun is just coming up as we get back. its a great way to start the day. the morning are starting to get colder here and the trees are just beginning to change colour.
ReplyDeleteYour walks sound magical with the added bonus of the moon and stars, then the sun coming up.
DeleteHello everyone! I managed 98km in February, which brings me with a total of 188km so far. After the very warm weather in January we had a very wet and cold February. What a strange weather! Can't wait to see the sun shining again!
ReplyDeleteWell done Helen, I think we are all taking one day at a time. Here's hoping for better weather.
DeleteUnfortunately, I've not been well for a few days so my total for the year so far is 133 miles. Hoping to be back on track next month. X
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Jules, your total is still good, plenty of time to catch up. Don't overdo it until you are feeling better.
Delete64 miles for february 2018, not so bad. I love looking at the snow and pottering in the garden, feeding the birds, but I am very anxious walking in it especially near roads. So I just chill, make myself 'not available for work' and enjoy it. Managed to get out 3 miles today, paths quite clear.
ReplyDeleteNot bad at all, in fact, very good. The paths here are frozen snow, I'm afraid I am going to miss a day again today. Don't want to fall over.
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona, sorry for chechking in a bit late. In February I caught a nasty flu-ish cold that kept me inside for ten days.
ReplyDeleteLuckily recovered in time to go on a short, beautiful but nasty cold (in an other way...!) trip to the Giant Mountains in the Czech Republic, where I walked 6 in Prague.
On the first day of March I enjoyed 16 kilometers of walking in the breathtaking surroundings of the hotel I was staying in Rokytnice.
Returned home yesterday, so couldn't find time to check in earlier.
I can't wait to get back to my daily walks in my home town streets and surroundings; starting today!
Have a lovely weekend, Ilona.
Cheers,
Jeanneke.
Hi Ilona, my total to the end of February is 187 miles
ReplyDeleteHazel Dxb
Greetings from Spain Ilona. I´m checking in for husband Wences who managed 196 miles in February, bringing his total to 427. Last week the weather was terribly cold, under zero and although donned with wooly hat, gloves and warm clothes he didn´t walk further than to the local library. Wishing all a warmer weekend.
ReplyDeleteI only managed 67 in Feb. Flu knocked me off my feet for over a week and I still am not quite up to full steam. I hardly set footover the step last week as we have had deep snow... Must/will do better once the snow had disappeared.
ReplyDeleteDia from N. Calif. 61.5 miles for Feb. Total so far is 144.5 miles. Looking forward to more intentional walking in March!
ReplyDeleteLet's see. I didn't do as much in January as there were various things affecting me including my ankle. But since I walk every day no matter what , I did my normal 60 miles ( 2 miles in the morning) and then at the gym treadmill and bike another 20. So 80 miles, January. February picked up as we walked quite a bit inSanta Barbara when we were there. So normal 60miles ( 2 each morning) and then another 30 so 90 miles for February. SO that puts me at 170 miles so far.
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteIn February I walked 47.86 km, for a total of 82.51km. And that was without making any special effort! Hopefully the weather will be a bit cooler in March and upping the kilometres for my next check-in might inspire me to explore my local area a bit more.
Love from Katie in Melbourne Australia.
Sorry for the late check in, I did 65 in February - I am very pleased with this as my personal benchmark is to do 50 per month so anything on top of this is a bonus. I have done a ten mile walk, and also walked 4 miles in a blizzard as I was on a bus that got stuck. Now I am used to walking the four miles felt easy to tackle although it was very challenging due to the snow. I go out in all weathers now and am committed to keeping going. I won't reach the high mileages that many of you do as I have other commitments that are really important to me, but I am definitely able to walk much further now and am no longer daunted by walking to the next town or planning longer routes.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late check in, I did 83miles. Thanks
ReplyDeleteTotal for Jan and Feb is 179 miles. Snow made walking slower this week.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have to give up for now. I've worsened the plantar fasciitis in my foot again. I thought it was gone, but it's not. So frustrating, but I'm hoping it will get better in a few weeks and I can start again. Walk on, everybody!
ReplyDeleteFebruary's total for me was 100 miles. Total for the year so far is 232 miles. Maybe I can do better in March. Sendee in Colorado
ReplyDeleteI'm behind in my goal, but pressing on. 125 mile total thus far. "Never, never, never give up!" Thanks, Ilona!!
ReplyDelete
