Hello. It's been a glorious day, quite hot in the sun. I did a Bailey poodle walk this morning, then I was out in the garden painting the tree. It needs some more branches and then I can add the leaves.
After lunch, which was a tin of M & S Carrot and Coriander soup, it wasn't too bad, nothing special, I made a start on the floor in the summer house. Everything had to come out, including the carpet tiles. There is a damp patch where the roof was leaking.
And this paving slab is broken, it needs replacing.I have stored the carpet tiles in the garage, they really aren't fit for anything else after 25 years. They may get taken to the tip when I next go.
Ooooh look, I found just the thing for the repair. A chopping board that I got out of the Village Hall skip. A few bits of wood underneath to level it, and some pieces to fill the gap at the side. Perfect, just the job.
I think I deserve a sit down after that. cheers.
I got all the vinyl flooring out of the garage to see which pieces fit the best. There were three long pieces which went right across from front to back, then I had to add a strip which was a slightly different shade of grey. That's ok. Now my summer house has exactly the same floor covering as the library in the town centre. A jolly good skip find if I might say so.
And Mayze slept through it all in her cosy little shelter.
Thank you for all your comments on yesterdays post, it was an interesting topic of conversation. A few people didn't know about the 'put your name in the box', system we have going now, so I have put a reminder under the header at the top of the page. It works well when everyone is doing it.
The start date for the exhibition in Burton upon Trent is August 20th.
Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

Your floor looks great and I love that photo of you sitting in your chair in the garden. What a lovely spot to relax and enjoy your tea, everything looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteHave a sweet day.
Connie :)

ReplyDeleteThe new summer house floor is awesome. Well done!
ReplyDelete"I was out in the garden painting the tree" sounds so delightfully Alice in Wonderland. As of this morning, the snow has been almost completely cleared from the streets here. Sadly we don't even contemplate planting until the May long weekend. Ah well, they do say we have only two seasons here - winter and construction. The shed is looking pretty fab these days!
ReplyDeleteYou have done a really good job there Ilona! It looks great.Isnt it lovely now that the sun is here that we can get out in the garden. It was my birthday yesterday,my Family came round and we spent all day in the garden and got through a few bottles of wine and some cans of Guinness. We had cake and every one did a really loud Happy Birthday song to me,lol.I love the photo of Mayze! All 5 of my cats laid in the garden all day with us aswell.xx
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero. I love all the things you create from recycled items. Would love to visit in person, unfortunately I live in the US. I check your blog daily. I have considered starting a blog, but wonder if I have anything interesting to share. Retired at 66, divorced at 67, share a home with my 85 yo mother. I quilt, knit, active in quilt guild, work in the yard maintaining my Moms flowers but still need something else to do. Considering looking for volunteer things in my community. Thanks for your wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteNancy, I started playing pinochle once a week with 3 friends when I was 64. Eight years later, I am 72 (they are 67, 70 and 77) and we still play every week. Linda and I were friends; Betsy was my friend; and Myra is Linda's neighbor. We are all the best of friends now. We take turns hosting and always serve tea and cookies from the store. We also bring any items we no longer want and they always find a home with someone else. If you don't play pinochle, there are tons of other card games, mah jongg, etc. Also, check with your library about joining or starting a book club.
DeleteWell done Ilona. The floor looks fantastic.
ReplyDeletelove that floor covering. the chopping board flooring should be there for years
ReplyDeleteHaven’t checked in for a couple of days so read through your blogs and comments to catch up. You look so contented in that wicker chair with a cuppa xxxxx
ReplyDeleteHi there, just sitting outside my shed in the sun today, got a kettle, radio and supplies with me. I have become that fella sitting in the tool shed haha, I'm a lady btw.re planted some hostas and checked out the daffodils coming up. A neighbour gave me some daffys from a garden he was working on and didn't want them so they have a new home.I love been retired and able to sit with the dog in my new garden, we downsized from a large growing city to this small town with cheaper housing etc. I gave up the large house for a 3 bed duplex but don't miss the cleaning or overhead.Who needs 3 reception rooms !! Been watching Escape to the country and marvel that retirees need 3 living rooms and 4 bedrooms to retire in ! Sure the grandkids can visit but really they only need one bedroom. The prices for homes in southern England are outrageous, can't afford to come back.
