My sun visor is looking a tad faded. Not sure how long it has been on my head, must be a couple of years. This is the third covering it has had, now it's time for the fourth. It started out as a cheapie pink one in a sale, a bargain at 50p.
First remove the old cover. The original pink is looking grubby, having got wet a few times so it's a bit mouldy looking in places. Most people might bin it, but not me.Use these as templates to cut new pieces of fabric.
To recover, pin it down, sew it all on in tiny stitches, and bingo, a new sun visor.
Hopefully this should last a couple of years, then I'll do it all again. You can't beat a bit of make do and mend to save money.
Bye for now. ilona
Looks great Ilona, well done.
ReplyDeleteNow, you are stylin'!
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of being able to sew is not looking like everybody else; being your own person.
I love your new sun visor.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good day.

Very jazzy looking!
ReplyDeleteI don't make do and mend to save money, I do it because I enjoy creating, enjoy sewing , enjoy reusing good fabric, it's more of a hobby I suppose. Plus the fact that I don't like this throw away society. I suppose it's my age and the way I was brought up. You should see the patches on my gardening shorts, ha ha. Of course I can afford new ones, but this is much more fun ! Lol. Long live your visor ! :-)
ReplyDeletehi ilona mayze and heidi your new sun visor is lovely. since following your blog i am recycling and its great we are the same age and people used to make do and mend all the time when i was young. with the cost of everything going up its the way to go. love liz amy and bennyxxx
ReplyDeleteYour hat is so cute! Better to mend than bin, I say. My husband and I have been walking 3 miles a day, 5 days a week. Last week we did not walk at all. Not sure why, but just out of it, so I know what you mean. Here's hoping we both get back into it tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks brand new!!!! You did a lovely job!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love make do and mend!.I can remember you doing this before and its still going strong!I made a blouse from an old dress of mine the other day.I just cut the skirt bit off,cut it up to use as cleaning rags, and turned the hem up of the top.Ive got 2 jackets that I am making into one winter jacket.Ones denim and I am putting fur sleeves from the other on to it....cause Im trendy like that, lol. It is amazing what you can do when you look at your old stuff in the wardrobe and saves so much money too!xx
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona, I have just seen that Joanne is putting her 1939 house up for sale. I have just put an offer on another house, wish I had seen this first. Why is she selling?
ReplyDeleteHi. She is moving down south somewhere, to live with her boyfriend. I believe the house is to be sold with everything in it.
DeleteI remember you doing this before and showing us how you did it, I just hope that you have the chance to wear your sun visor and we get a nice September weather-wise!
ReplyDeleteYou did a cracking job. Why would anyone throw out something that could be titivated?
ReplyDeleteI think I've watched through every re-incarnation of your sun visor. This must be the best 50p you've ever spent. Love the new covering :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is really cute, the colors and the big flower. I remember the last time you recovered it.
