What!!! Only 50p.

I was out early today, needed to get to the dentist at 8.30am, an emergency appointment, I broke a back tooth on Saturday. The car was frosted up, I'm not used to this, scraping ice off the windows lark. I usually wait until the sun comes round and it melts naturally. Traffic was busy, got caught up with those going to work, just made it in time.
The lovely Jim was ready for action, a repair should do it, but if that doesn't hold a crown might be needed later on. I shall do all I can to be gentle with this new filling, hopefully it will last a few years. Cost, £21.
While I was there I went to the sewing shop and booked myself on three workshops. Patchwork similar to what I did before only a different design. Free motion machine embroidery, I missed the last one, and creative hand embroidery. Looking forward to those.
While I was out and about I thought I would look for some bargains. Found these crackers in the bargain box at the Cash and Carry, 20p each.
Two cartons of Almond milk from Poundstretcher, 25p each.

Reduced salad in Morrisons. I thought surely the yellow sticker is a mistake, only 5p. It definitely  was only 5p, so a good bargain. I looked at lots of items while I was in the store, to compare prices, and found that the things I normally buy are a bit more expensive there. I don't go very often because it's the other side of town, even if it was nearer I doubt I would do much shopping there.

This has got to be the best money saver. Browsing Poundstretcher I came across this organic coconut sugar, it looks identical to what I bought the other day at Aldi, different label. There was no price ticket on the shelf so I asked an assistant. She came back and said 50p. I was amazed, what, only 50p! Yep, it went through the till at 50p. I bought six, maybe I should have got more. There is another store in the town so maybe I will see if they have it in.

On the way home I picked up some scrap vinyl and some wood from the two places I visit on the industrial estate. I'll deliver this to the Scrapstore tomorrow.   ilona

  3. once again I am gob smacked (and much impressed) at the food deals you got. Those cheap coconut sugar you got don't even appear to have been on mark down. Maybe one day you will find them on markdown and get them even cheaper.

ALSO, am gobsmacked at the cost of your dental filling. (CHEAP).. I think that would come to about thirty five dollars Canadian? ( I googled the exchange).

without a word of lie, pretty sure it would cost about three hundred fifty Canadian dollars, possibly more. Is it possible you missed a couple of digits on the price ? probably not. BUT, how the heck can a filling be so cheap in Britain, compared to Canada? Does not make sense. Makes me wonder. Don't suppose you have a dental insurance, and that is just your cost?

    1. The sugar is not marked down and has a date until end of May 2019. There are some good bargains to be found at Poundstretcher, but you have to look for them, and know what the normal price is to spot them.

I don't have an insurance plan for my teeth. I am with a dentist (Bupa), which has NHS and private patients. For anything run of the mill like fillings, I choose NHS. If I had to have any big jobs done I would consider paying private. £21 was the right figure.

    2. I had a tooth extracted last week, it cost $ 354 dollars...Canadian dollars...now if I broke my arm, had a heart attack, had a baby $0 don't get it, isn't my mouth part of my body ? I also got a mammogram, colon screen, blood work and a pap test no charge.

    3. The mouth is part of the body here, so comes under the National Health umbrella. Poor dental hygiene can lead to all sorts of other medical complications.

We get some free tests as well. What is a pap test?

    1. Yes, have a look. They sell a lot of what I would call crappy food, stuff you don't need to eat, but take time to study the shelves and labels and you should find something that you want and like.

  5. so….much cheaper there than in Canada...Does this Dentist (all dentists?) possibly get subsidized as part of the NHS?....If you had to have the filling you had private, roughly what would it cost?

    1. Yes, the NHS pays dentists to treat people so it is subsidized. I don't know how much it costs to pay private for a filling. The prices are not displayed on a wall for anyone to see, but if you ask at reception they will tell you, then you can decide what you want to do.

  7. Bought Typhoo Tea in Poundland the last time we were in England. What a ripoff. It had a terrible flavor, no flavor at all, actually.

  8. pap test = smear test. It's named after the guy who invented it, shortened version of his name.

Re the ice scraping, ditto for me, only doing casual work these days and usually a late start but I did have to go out early the other day and tried the trick I'd seen on Facebook re quick and easy way to defrost screen. And it worked beautifully. Take plastic bag, I used a large sandwich bag (and I know, plastic, but I do wash and re-use them again and again), half fill with warm water, tie off top (I used a clip) and then gently run that up and down windscreen and other windows. Windscreen needed couple of passes in place where the ice was really thick but other than that, just one slow pass over. Car done in less than a minute. Savannah.

  9. I forgot to mention the Free food i was given last weekend. My niece held a buffet party for her friend and had caterers from her local country pub do it.What was left over was going to be thrown away!.I said Noooooooooooo!,lol.I can make use of it.So it was wrapped in silver foil,..scotch eggs, sausage rolls, pork pie, brought to my house and I froze most of it..leaving a few broken bits out for feeding the seagulls that visit me for my left overnight cat food!It was all posh local stuff aswell!.I was well pleased as you can imagin!.There was also big lumps of various cheeses which I grated and put in the fridge. So next time people come round,if I add a bowl of crisp and some olives there will be quite a selection of nibbles for them.I liked the fact that there was vegan food in with it aswell.Ive even kept the foil it was all wrapped in to be used again.Bought from the farmers markets, there must have been about £40 of food going in the bin until I rescued it.I tried explaining to her how she could freeze it herself...but no,she just wanted rid of it!!xx

  10. Some time ago, you wrote that your blogger account had reached its limit -at least, that's what I think you said.
I have been posting on blogger for about 5 years. Two weeks ago, it refused to load any more photos without explanation. (I do post lots of photos normally from my holidays). In desperation, I quickly set up a basic Wordpress site. This was easy to do, but very annoying. If blogger has a limit, why didn't they let me know?

    1. Hi Margaret. I stayed with blogger because it only costs £4 something for unlimited photo's for a whole year. I thought that was the easiest thing to do.

  11. When I glanced at that first photo my eyes read: "Oaty Things" and I thought that was just about the best name ever for a snack. "Yes, I'll have some Oaty Things and a bit of almond butter, thank you!" But "Oaty Thins" works, too. :-) You do find the bargains! P.S. A dental crown here in the U.S., for someone without insurance, would be $500 (bare minimum). Ugh. Glad you were able to get that broken tooth patched up for much less.
