Walking Group check in for 5 months

Good morning it's the first day of the month and we all know what that means. There's no getting away with it, time marches on. Time will catch us all out if we hesitate and put things off till another day. There's no time like the present to tackle those important tasks. Not that walking is a task, I think of it as more of a pleasure. A chance to spread my wings and take flight away from the confines of the house.

So, my International Walking Group buddies how are we all doing? Have we reached our targets for the first five months of the year? It's around 84 a month, how close are you to 420 miles? Chuffed to say I am on 439 miles. We hit the halfway point of the challenge at the end of June, will you make the 500?

A few pics from the archives. An abundance of life all around us.

Now it's your turn, please let us know how you are doing with your walking.
Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.  Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. Hi Ilona and fellow walkers. Clocked up 183 klms for May, by my reckoning I am now up to 1016 klms out of a goal of 1930'ish. Ilona I love all your pics with the new camera, thanks for showing us.
I don't look on my daily walks as a task, but rather some time out for "me" and a chance to see what is going on around me. Keep up the good work everyone. Joy, Central Vic Australia.

    1. Hi Joy. Well done. Going outside is good for mental health, but you know that already. Smile and you will be happy.

  3. Hi Ilona and fellow walkers,
Until today I walked 302 kilometres in total. I am a bit saddened I have to tell that walking can't be a daily routine for me any longer, since my pelvis and left leg are still causing lots of trouble and limitation due to the injuries caused by the BIG BAD fall in January.
I am in the good hands of a physiotherapist since one month, getting treatment/torture with excercises to do at home, which will be continued for the next month.
In the meantime I do lots of cycling (tours) that doesn't cause me any trouble at all and with the most beautiful weather at the moment those rides feel like my so much enjoyed and loved daily walks in the counryside around my home town. I really enjoy this 'new movement', so to speak :>)
I will try to start walking again by one kilometer couple of times a week, but don't know when I can start doing so.
You will see me back at check-in day each first of the month.
So, for now I say keep walking, dear Ilona and fellow walkers. I'll be back. One day.
    Cheers!

    Jeanneke.

    1. Hello Jeanneke. Sad news about the walking, but you must do what is best for you. The good news is that you can still exercise on your bike. Please check in from time to time, would love to hear from you.

    1. Hello Thrifty, very good miles. I am taking advantage of this nice weather and getting out more. It could be a long cold winter.

  5. Afternoon Ilona and walkers everywhere.
We are exercising by doing lots of gardening and walking has taken a few steps back asa result!
As we are off for a staycation 30 miles away in June there may be a better total away from the garden and with new walks to tempt us.
The total for the five months so far is 358 miles so ideally we need to do 142 miles next month!!
Good luck to you all. Sue

    1. Hello Sue. Difficult to fit everything in at this time of the year. A change of scenery will inspire you to explore. I have no doubt that you will meet the targets.

    1. Hello guusje. Amazing miles, well done. Walking on sand is hard going unless it is compacted by water.

  8. Hi Ilona and walking group! I switched from one tracking device to another…and the new one, Fitbit, doesn’t track walking specifically….sigh. So I don’t have May numbers. I will go back and see if I can manually get it….what a silly device to use if it won’t split out the data into usable chunks. Oh well, live and learn. Hope everyone had a good month! Hilogene in At

    1. Hello Hilogene. I have never used a fitbit or any other device so I can't help you there. I'm sure you will sort it out.

  9. Total is 622 miles. It's 91F (33C) today, going up to 101F (38C) by Thursday so walking has to be done in the early morning. Just a taste of temperatures to come. . .

    1. Hello Lisa. You are leaving us all behind, well done you. Next time we get a downpour I might go out in shorts and teeshirt just to experience what it feels like. I'm sure the neighbours will think I am potty.

  13. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers. Well, where did that month go? Just over the 100 mile mark in May, making a total of 536 for the 5 months so far. Had a lot of sea frets recently while the rest of the UK has basked sunshine but hot and sunny today! Enjoy your walking in June, everyone.

    1. Hello Vicki, our star walker. I was finding it a bit too hot the other day when I was out. Don't forget to take plenty of water with you. What is a sea fret?

    2. A fret is low cloud and misty murk. Not sure of spelling but I think the Scots call it a haar. Apart from losing the view, the temperature is usually suppressed too so haven't needed any water yet!
