Dumping ground.

I had a little job to do this morning. Go in my car to a place where I found some fly tipping yesterday. I have passed the place before, it's at the entrance to a field, on the other side of a fence, next to a manky festering swamp. It's been there for a long time and it's covered in years of fallen leaves. I have a look in case some new rubbish has appeared. I did report this once but nothing was done about it.
My friend mentioned to me a couple of months ago that she needs some plant pots, and could I look out for some. The same friend, who loves her garden I might add, who asked me to look for some wire.
Yesterday, among all the rotting brambles and weeds, I saw plant pots. I hopped over the fence for a closer look. Yes, quite a lot of pots. I opened a black bin bag and it was full of pots. Too many to carry. I still had half an hour left of my walk to do. It was dark when I got home.
This morning I went back with my car and picked them up. My friend is chuffed. Seek and you will find is my motto.
I also found some new fly tipping yesterday. I didn't pick this up, might do if it is still there in a weeks time. Nothing of use. Cardboard packaging and a microwave oven.

The council have started issuing red bin bags for those who want to volunteer to do litter picking. I have seen full bags left at the side of the road awaiting collection from the Council truck. I will ask if I can have some. Red is a better colour as they can be quickly distinguished from the black ones.
A doggy awaits me for a walk, so I'll bid you cheerio for now. Thanks for popping in.

  2. Theres a national litter picking group, in our area they are known as wombles. Since they started volunteering to pick up litter, the streets and parks look fantastic.

    They do a great job.

    1. I think they have a group pick once a year here. I see it advertised.

  3. It's very generous of folk to give up their time litter picking. These fly tippers make me so cross, especially when you
see the problems it causes wildlife getting caught up and tangled in things.

  4. People probably spend just as much time finding a place to dump their garbage than if they would do the right thing to start with!!!!! 😡😡

  5. I’m in Strasbourg which has become filthy recently.
I got sick of myself complaining about it and realized it was easier to just get a stick (grabber left over from my mother’s hip replacement!) and start picking it up. A couple of locals have thanked me but mostly I just get stares. Hopefully it will catch on eventually. I’m enjoying it.

    1. I litter pick around my village. The Council gave me a stick to use. I see worse dumping in town centres.

  6. It does make my heart sink when I see fly tipping like this.Like you said, most of that stuff can go into recycling...so why cant people just do it.Far easier to put stuff into a recycle bag or bin than to do that to our beautiful country side.I noticed that some of the boxes had contained toddler toys,so what sort of example does that show their kids?xx

  7. One of my observations with litter is that it is almost entirely what we don't need. Cans, bottles - both plastic and glass, sweet wrappers, crisp packets, fast food packaging, etc. I remember as a child, deposits on bottles. Even then, some were thrown away. Some of us feel compelled to take action, individually or collectively. Better than none of us caring. I see litter as some sort of metaphor for people's lives. Many people don't look after themselves very well, so no surprise, they treat their surroundings the same. Probably this brings us back to those in power ruling the world in such a way that makes people feel powerless and give up.
