A visit to Furness Abbey

I am sure there are some interesting places to visit in Barrow, but I didn't want to be driving around looking for them. I picked one out, Furness Abbey, because I was there 50 years ago. Not that I can remember anything about it. I followed the signs and arrived at the main car park. It was getting a bit late in the day and thankfully they were still open. I had a lovely chat with the lady at Reception. She told me about a new viewing platform they had built, and she relieved me of £8 the entrance fee.
There was no one else there so I had the place to myself. It was lovely to wander around with nothing but the birdsong to accompany me.

Some information about the ceilings and arches.

Zooming in from the viewing platform.

Me kneeling down on the platform to add a bit of colour to the photo.

You can follow me around if you like. Here is a link to  the web site.
Time was getting on. I wanted to go a bit further north then find somewhere to park up along the coast.
Find out where I went on the next post.
Thanks for popping in. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. That looks so much like the four ruined abbeys in southern Scotland.

    1. Every time I see something like this I am always amazed at how much can be achieved with so little mechanical equipment. They were truly master builders.
