Good morning. It was a scorcher yesterday. Our village event was a laid back affair. People came together for a natter, on the village green. There were no disasters, nothing exciting happened, it was just good old fashioned community spirit.
The tea tent was a magnet as usual. It was very hot so sit down and relax was the order of the day.
Enjoy the harmonies from the ladies choir. Family picnics on the grass. The children and parents were on a mission to raise funds for their football teams.
I set my stall out next to Janet and Sue. They raise funds for our local Cat Rescue. I have passed my sales onto them, and have to say I didn't do very well. It is a small village event, with not enough footfall to make mega bucks. They did ok though, people like having a go on their tombola.
One last photo before we start packing up. It officially opens at 12.30pm, and people start drifting away at about 3pm, then it closes at 4pm. Then there is the arduous task of lugging things back home and putting it all away.
Every year the Summer Fair shrinks. Trade and charity stands come and go hoping to make a few quid. They try it once, or twice, then they don't come back. Something else to consider is that there are a lot of other events every weekend in June. To compete with bigger events means new ideas have to be implemented to freshen things up.
It is convenient for me because I can walk there. It's an opportunity to meet up with people that I normally see when I dog walk, and to meet friends from the Monday and Wednesday coffee mornings that I go to. Everyone is familiar with seeing me constantly walking. Some even say, I haven't seen you much just lately, are you still walking. I tell them I might drive out somewhere else and walk in a different place.
Sunday morning and the sun is shining. I hope you are having a good weekend. I shall potter about here, got to keep tidying the garden so it doesn't become a jungle. After lunch I might go out, but if it is too hot I will sit in the shade and do a bit of stitching.
Thanks for popping in. Toodle pip. ilona
You had good weather for it. Your stall looked very colourful. Well done giving your earnings to the Cat Rescue people.
ReplyDeleteThe weather was glorious. Thank goodness my stall, along with the cat rescue stall, had the luxury of shade under the trees. I couldn't have stood under the full glare of the sun for very long. It has never been my priority to make a lot of money. My pension pays for everything I need so I am able to make charitable donations with any spare cash.
DeleteThe heat and humidity has been extremely uncomfortable the past week. This weekend we have had several pop-up storms in the evenings. With the high heat we have had lots of thunder and some lightning that seemed to be right in our front yard. Looks like this coming week will be more of the same. Glad you were able to sell a few things to help out the cat rescue. Always good to see what you get into each week. Take care mother!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have has a sprinkling of rain during the warm nights, but not what you would call a full blown storm. Thanks for your comment.
