Lucky me.

Aye up me ducks.
Twas a busy day today. I was getting ready to go to Crafty Club and these two vans turned up and parked outside my house. I thought, what do they want, are they coming here. I went out to speak to one of the drivers and asked him if they were selling something. He said no, we have come to change the meters next door. He showed me his paperwork and I said, sorry sunshine, you have got the wrong street. A bit of banter followed, all very good humoured. I said I won't have any smart meters. He laughed and said I don't blame you. I said I love the bright colours on your vans, but you can forget the zero carbon bollocks, it's a scam. He laughed again. He said yes it is, these vans run on diesel. Of they went up the street to the right house.
After lunch I went back to the Industrial Estate do a bit more litter picking. I had seen a lot of glass bottles and it was bugging me. I filled three carrier bags with glass, then put a red sack in my trolley and proceeded to fill it with plastic bottles and drinks cans, and anything else. That trolley makes the job a lot easier.
I was ready to leave when I thought I would have one last look to see if I had missed any bottles. I found two more. Then surprise surprise, look what else I found. Lucky eh!
Guess what else I found. A tent hidden in the middle of some bushes in the middle of a roundabout. I was getting some bottles out from under the hedge and went into the middle of it so I could pick some more which were out of reach. No one about, but it looks like someone is living there. There was some personal stuff on the ground and the jacket looks new. I made a quick exit back onto the road.
So, a bit more added to the pile I left yesterday. I thought the Council would have collected them today, but maybe Tuesday is their normal day for checking this location, same as last week.

I good result I would say. Chuffed.

Thanks for popping in. Toodle pip. ilona

  1. Now what’s the opposite of ill-gotten gains? A well-deserved windfall, maybe. What will you do with the tenner? It would be nice to spend it on a treat. I rescued about a dozen worms scattered over a rocky path last week, when I was out hill-walking - they had ventured out the previous night and got caught out by the warm sunny morning. Today I took home a bobble hat that I had picked up and hung on a post a few days ago - no takers - I looked at the label inside, Poundland! I suspect it was lost by a schoolchild on a day trip. I’ll wash it and hand it in to a charity shop. Heather

    1. It's exciting when you find something and there is no chance you can give it back to the owner. I found a pair of quality insulated gloves once on a stone wall in Derbyshire. Still wearing them years later.

  3. That's a nice windfall. I don't blame you for beating a hasty retreat from the tent. I am impressed with how it was hidden away on a roundabout though. Someone clearly thought that one out. Little chance of being disturbed - except by intrepid litter pickers.

    1. There are some yoootooober who stealth camp as a challenge. They relish the fact that they may get caught. Lorries pass that roundabout day and night, so I don't know how the camper gets any sleep.

  4. A good find! I finally allowed Eon to fit smart meters just before Christmas- regretfully with hindsight. They'd been badgering me for years so I gave in. I used to give monthly readings myself and then pay a monthly bill. Since the meters were fitted and I've moved to monthly direct debit, my bill has increased by at least £20 a month! At the time of fitting the engineer informed me that there'd been a big push for them but that by now, the need wasn't considered as important!! He took ill with a bout of diarrhoea whilst here and spent ages on my toilet!! Said it was first time in 20yrs that he'd had to do a no.2 in a customer's house. Yuk!!

    1. There is a lesson to be learnt in your story. Don't cave in to pressure. If you have a system that works for you, stick with it. I don't want to pay monthly, I am happy with a quarterly bill and pay it at the Post Office. I hope you were ready with the Domestos and you opened all the windows.

  5. Oh what a wonderful surprise. A tenner!! I do hope you won something good at the raffle. The tent looks like someone had definitely taken a lot of time and effort in the placing of it. You just never know… poor soul down on their luck…. Or nutter up to no good . 🤷🏼‍♀️. Do take care Mother!!!!
