Unlucky in love

I've been trying to get on with the last canvas bag for the Arts Centre, but have been a little bit distracted by a gorgeous dark brown hunk, Henry choc lab has been here for the weekend.

I woke up in the early hours of Friday morning and couldn't get back to sleep again, nothing for it but to get up at 4am and play around with some bits of fur and buttons. It was an idea I had for the bag. I had a cup of coffee, and bingo it came to me, yep, that might work, so I went back to bed at 5am for another couple of hours sleep. Anyway, I have made a start on the bag and it's looking good.

Henry needs a lot of walks, he has endless energy, but I musn't grumble, because I like the excercise as well. We went to Normanby Park this afternoon. I promised him he could have a swim, so we headed for the duck pond in the middle of the grounds. I was rather hoping to steer him away from the ducks, as there was some families with children chucking bread into the water for them. Henry did not care, he almost dragged me into the water with him. Exit the ducks, ha ha.

Henry's taxi arrived at 5pm to take him home. Helen his owner has her back seat covered and a special harness which fastenes to the seat belt, he climbs in then sits there like Lord Muck saying, you can take me home now.

No wonder he thinks he is royalty. Apparently last week he was out for a walk along the Humber bank, in Winteringham where he lives. He was with his pals Guinness and Angus, and their owner Roy, and who should come along but Jason Donovan. He stopped to chat and made a big fuss of Henry.

There is a famous restaurant and hotel called Winteringham Fields, in this sleepy North Lincolnshire village, and lots of famous people visit there for the exquisite food. Jason has been staying for the past two weeks while he has been performing in Hull. It is a favourite place for stars to stay, because the villagers don't make a big thing of it, and leave them alone to enjoy the peace and privacy. I could never afford to eat there, it's the kind of place where you pay a lot of money for small portions. All the people I know who have eaten there say, very nice but you come away still feeling hungry.

It would be nice if someone offered to take me as a treat, but there's about as much chance of that happening as getting a Valentine card tomorrow :o(

  4. I'm not expecting a Valentine's Day card either but I always send one - to someone, not necessarily the same one, totally and properly secret of course.

It's a bit of a fib (there's no one THAT VERY special outside family) but I hope it makes someone's day although I do wonder if it worries them. I suspect not, but that someone else gets the credit. Potentially, three lives are brightened for the day; their's, the one they care/think about and mine.

Valentine's Day - just love it! (Me and the dog will watch Love Actually tonight).

  5. I'm not expecting a Valentine's day card either, but I MAY just make/sew/paint one IF I think about it today.

I once found one rolled up and tucked into the handlebars of my bike, when I was about 16 and didn't think I would EVER be anyone's Valentine, as I didn't like my looks and I wore glasses. I never did find out who sent it!

  6. Ilona you would need to find a rich man to take you to Winteringham Fields - I've just checked it out (nosey parker that I am) and a 3 course meal is £75 EACH! Plus wine. And not cheap to canoodle either £185 a night least expensive room.... no wonder it is the celebs that stay there! I don't mind though cos I got a lovely card from hubs this morning :-))

  8. Welcome gz, I have just had a look at your blog, some excellant reading matter there. I have been lurking for a while on Downsizer, and guess what, I've just registered, so thanks for the prompt.

Brian, I have sent secret Valentine cards out before, just to put a smile on the face of the recipient. I saw Love Actually when I was in Las Vegas with my then boyfriend. A year or so later he finished with me because he thought the age gap was too great, me being 14 years older than him. I was gutted, but there you go, you win some you lose some.

No Valentine card in the post, but thank you for all your good wishes on here. What do I want a lousy card for anyway, it's having nice friends which is far more important.
