Meet George. I have called him George, he is a boy, so Boy George, also George after William and Kate's small boy. Pretty isn't he. I found him last night, at 10pm when I went into the porch to lock the front door. I saw something just outside, between the door and my car, I park my car close to the house. On closer inspection I saw it was a blue plastic cat box, with a cat inside. Someone has dumped him on my front doorstep. I have no idea how long he was there for, I hadn't been out since lunchtime. Maybe he was put there under the cover of darkness.
I know who dumped him, I was accosted in the street about a week ago by a young man who wanted me to take his cat in as it wasn't getting on with his dog. I said I couldn't, I can't afford any more, and he should email us a photo and we can put it on our Catchat web page as available for re homing. He didn't send the photo, he dumped the cat instead.
George is the lucky one, lots of cats are just abandoned when the owners move away. They leave their animals behind. Some cats are driven miles away from their home and left to fend for themselves. Some are kicked out and never let into the home again. At least George has a warm bed and food. We will look for a nice home for him. Some people are so cruel.

ReplyDeleteBless you for taking him in. He looks like a handsome fellow. I have three cats but would always take another to prevent it starving or being ill-treated. Probably explains why i live like a church mouse,but i'm happy.

Hi Sue. At the moment he is in the spare room by himself with the door closed. It wouldn't be fair to let him wander the whole house, he will think this is his new home, and will be unhappy when the time comes to move him again. Also best not to have contact with other cats in case they don't get on. I keep going in to see him. I might move him into the room I have just outside the back door, in the covered passageway. There is a window he can look out of over the garden. I need to get the room ready for him.

ReplyDeleteYou have a big, kind heart Ilona. What on earth would have happened to him if you hadn't been known as the local cat rescue lady? We took in two rescue cats when we were first married. They were both in a very bad state but slowly recovered. George is a beautiful cat and I'm sure it won't be long until you find a good home for him. Are you noticing an increase in animals needing to be rehomed due to the recession? It was just something I read about in an article a few months ago.

ReplyDeleteHow sad that someone can just dump a cat. My daughter's partner was followed home about 6 months ago by a kitten, according to the vet only about 3 months old. He was riddled with fleas and despite posting posters to see if he had strayed no one claimed him. Luckily for both the cat and my daughter they had been considering getting a cat for a while and having kept him he has become a valued member of their family - he's now affectionately known as "my grandson" as he's the only child I'm likely to get from them. Lol. (I totally respect their wishes regarding children - their lives - their choice). So hope that George finds his forever home, but know he's in safe hands in the meantime . xxx

ReplyDeleteOh the darling cat, he is a handsome boy for sure Ilona and if I was not waiting to go to hospital for another hip job I would have asked you for him. You will soon find him a good home I am sure or if he is very very lucky I can see him being intergrated into your home. I got a decent bargain at Sainsbury's today, their own brand dried cat food was on special offer, I mix this with a bag of dearer food for my ferral cats that come into the yard. Now its so cold and wet the ferrals seem to come calling to the door more than usual, I have Gordon next door to me lined up to do the food when I go into hospital, I am hoping this time I will get home quicker, its usually 3 to 4 days but I had 10 days as there was a few hic-cups . Wow, just heard the news, Water Bills are rising in April, oh well I will just wash when its really necessary, same for laundry hehehe Good Luck with George Ilona.
