Can you hear me mother?

Good morning. Well that was a bit of a mad rush. There was me thinking I would have enough time to get ready for a 9am start by getting up at 7.30am, and just before eight I had a phone call saying can I be ready with the Skype connected at 8.30am. Cue mad rush, gulp down the coffee, madly tidying up, grabbing small computer, plugging in and switching on. Another phone call on the mobile, are you ready. Me...still trying to get Skype started. Yes, Skype is ready, they called me, WE ARE CONNECTED.

I can see what is happening in the studio, they are rehearsing, I can hear them as well. They speak to me, I speak back. We have a practice, Matt asks a question, I answer. My screen keeps freezing, don't know if the problem is here or there. Skype is not brilliant, a second or two delay, stop and start, I can hear an echo of my own voice. The interview had to be aborted, not going to work.

I am disappointed, they said they have a technical problem, I also have a problem this end as well, the broadband signal is lousy. Never mind, at least we tried. Going down to London for a five minute sit on a settee is just not worth the expense and time. I think I need to get my equipment updated, and make my own little videos from here.

I'm juggling two computers, will log off on this big one, and upgrade the small one from Windows 7 to 10. It's telling me I can do that free. Catch you later.
Toodle pip.

  1. That's a shame. Our Skype is rubbish here in rural Norfolk too. Still on Windows 7 because there's such bad press about 10, lots of problems with the upgrade and still being sorted. Search on Google and you'll see what I mean. x Rae x

  2. Aaah such a shame! I made sure to have the TV on at work so that I could catch you. At least you and they tried eh. Still we have your blog to follow :) Richard, Kent

  3. I watched the show on Channel 5. You were discussed! Plus a couple of photos shown. Shame about the Skype! As usual tea bags were mentioned!!!

  4. Be careful of windows 10, it is very 'buggy' my laptop was a write off with it, but as it was new they replaced it.

  5. I have windows 10, I agree it is 'buggy'. Luckily a nice person helps to sort out snarl ups for cups of tea and the odd tenner. I wouldn't recommend updating till a 'proper one' comes out.

Don't worry about the interview, enjoy your day. I have a week's holiday and am not going to think about marking till Monday at least. Have a good day. I am tidying.

  6. Ilona, be a bit wary of upgrading to windows 10. I wish I hadn't done that.

  7. Good luck with the Windows 10 update, Ilona. According to Sony, my Vaio was compatable. To cut a long story...I upgraded to 10 and for a while, I was locked out of my laptop. I was repeatedly told my password was incorrect. After an hour or two of trying and having a good googling for answers on another computer, the Vaio stopped playing hard to get and let me in with the same password! Why that happened, I don't know.
Windows 10 changed some of my default settings, e.g, the keyboard and touchpad speeds.
I've got used to 10 now but still miss some aspects of 7; I knew where everything was before!
BT has some useful Windows 10 info on their website. I'm going to buy or borrow a decent idiots guide to 10. I suspect you may do your own thing, i.e, just jump in and see what happens?! We wait with bated breath for your next post...

  8. Glad you got a sleep in after your long walk yesterday.

If they want you to come up to London then they should provide you with the cost of transportation etc. Just saying.

Good luck with the upgrade and hope it works for you.

  9. I updated to windows 10 and the computer had " the blur screen of death" as DS1 calls it. I went back to PC world as it was under warrantee and they wiped the whole lot and reinstalled windows 8. I am staying with that for now.

  10. Pity the interview couldn't go ahead. Be careful upgrading to Windows 10; I did and it wiped out my anit-virus. It disappeared completely from my laptop and on googling the problem it seems its an issue for many people, especially those with Kaspersky AV. Fortunately there was the choice of transferring back to my previous version of Windows if I did so within a month, so I did and sent Microsoft a rather honest opinion of their latest Windows. They really should make sure these things are bug free before rolling out a new version. Why they need a new version every year or so I don't know.

  11. I have a feeling that you are going to be offered the chance of a nice free trip, train first class etc. for one of these interviews in London ere long. JanF

  12. A few weeks ago I asked my "followers" what they thought of Windows 10 as i was thinking of upgrading too. The feedback was mixed, but I think I will still upgrade. Just need to tidy up and de-junk my laptop first to give windows 10 a chance .
Good luck, will be following your progress

    1. Hi Gill. My Windows 7 was getting painfully slow, that's why I thought I would upgrade. The laptop has been on most of the day installing this, I think I should have de-junked before I started.

    2. Mine has been slow also. I think they've done it on purpose to get you to "upgrade" to 10. Effing Bill Gates - never enough billions. Don't trust those Americans - and I say that as I am one haha! As for the media - tell them your fee and if they don't like it, well then they can go elsewhere - as if you should do all this for free when they're reaping advert. fees. No way.

  13. Yep, I'd give Windows 10 a wide berth.... Would like to go back to Windows 7 - so much easier to use. My whole Windows 10 experience has served to highlight the good old saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

  14. Ilona, you get these TV people to pay your railway ticket and expenses they have enough money for these things. Thing is they want you so make them pay, money could be put toward your next waalking holiday or the cats fund etc, I am sure you can find something for a few extra shillings.

    1. Hello Danneke. The only way I would go to London is if they sent a helicopter for me. I am not spending hours travelling on a train and underground. I also cannot spend too long away from home at the moment, I have an elderly dog who misses me terribly if I am not around.

  15. A bit disappointing but never mind. I tuned in to watch you and it reminded me why I don't watch TV anymore. You would have definitely stolen the show. I shall forever have the image Russel Grant dancing around the studio etched on my brain :0 . Your competition wasn't high (lol). Have a lovely weekend.

  16. I upgraded to Windows 10 for free when it first came out. No problems at all and works good. Natalie

  17. I wondered about leaving Rocky, can you give us an update on him please. You haven't mentioned him in a while which makes me worry. Thanks, JanF

  18. I hope you take everyone's advice and NOT upgrade to Windows 10. Wait...at least a year or more until Microsoft get most of the bugs worked out of the program. And this is true of most operating systems.

  19. Windows 10 is good provided your computer is nearly new. I have two laptops, on the newest one there was no problems, and I like it. On the old one, there are problems. It runs hot, and slow.
