What do I eat for breakfast in the summer?

Hello. Me again. The video is ready, and don't laugh at the label sticking out of the back of my stripey top. It was £1 from the Age UK charity shop, if you can't quite read the price. I am not filming it again.

I made a large purchase yesterday, it's still in the box. Treated myself to something nice. I'll open it tonight and show you tomorrow.

Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon, oh, nearly forgot, the book I am reading with the cat, Jeanneke was right.

  2. A very nutritious start to the day - breakfast is my favourite meal. I note 'in summer', I eat nearly that breakfast combination, minus the porridge or granola (I don't buy granola but stick with Aldi's 'Fruit 'n' Fibre'). Occasionally in the spring and summer I like kippers or scrambled eggs on toast. I stumbled across how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave - brilliant, saves on washing the wretched messy pan, the mug method is easy and no problem to wash up. Winter though is different, I am really hungry in the mornings and that's when the porridge comes in, sometimes adding fruit but so satisfying. Amanda

  3. I have to limit carbs so I can't eat any cereals (which I could eat til the cows come home!) so I usually have Greek yoghurt with fresh strawberries in summer and with frozen berries in winter. I sometimes have an egg - poached or fried with a few tomatoes - obviously no bread :(
You have obviously taken care with your health Ilona - I wish I had in my 30/40s and probably I wouldn't now have Type 2 diabetes.

    1. I ate some junk when I was in my thirties while trucking, mainly snacking. Apart from putting a bit of weight on thankfully thankfully it hasn't done any long term damage.

  4. You look fit to me certainly better than the staff in a rather pricey health food shop I went in today. The proof is in the pudding if you will excuse the pun. Thanks Ilona for sharing. Sharon

  9. That looks like a delicious and really healthy breakfast. I have something very similar although often make my own granola using honey rather than sugar. I also enjoy porridge with tinned or frozen fruit as its so healthy, cheap and filling. Kristel

  16. Lidl are now selling 1kg bags of porridge oats for 75p so these might be cheaper than the bags you get. They are really nice and make lovely porridge and granola. Kristel

    1. You got it wrong. You need a licence to watch any live TV on any channel as it is broadcast, on any device. You need a licence to watch catch up on BBC iplayer, as of 1st September 2016. You don't need a licence to watch Channel 4od, Channel 5 catch up, ITV catch up.

  18. The only thing I ever eat for breakfast is porridge-sometimes just a banana if I'm in a hurry to get out with the dogs.I know I should have more but I eat my proper breakfast/lunch on my return -brunch I suppose.I do like smoothies but only do twice a week because my blender takes a while to clean.Love your video-I do eat similar foods to you I think Ilona but desperately throughout the day-I must do it but top dog insists on his walk as soon as I'm dressed x

  20. Again, not really the point, but I love your stripy top. Every so often when I'm out I notice a woman with the tag sticking up, and if she looks sensible, I say "oh dear, your tag is sticking up" and tuck it back in for her. Yes, probably risky behavior, especially in the US now, but I'm old, and short, and very harmless looking, so I've been okay so far. I eat a very similar breakfast when I have the energy to do it (sometimes a little toast and tea wakes me up enough to make a good breakfast). And I am never without porridge oats--a constant in my long life. Take care, love from Kate in Oregon
