Hello. I was up at 5 this morning, raring to go with a full day of stuff to do. Perched on my usual chair at the back window, watching the sun come up and sipping a welcome mug of coffee, I set about cutting up some aluminium drinks cans that I've been storing for ages. Commonly known as soda cans across the pond.
Another idea I picked up from a yoootooob video, I can do that. Cut circles using a cardboard template, use a paper punch to make two holes opposite each other, and join them together with thin wire. Hang five rows of five from the top bit of an old lampshade. Attach wire to the top, and hang.

Hi Ilona, thank you for sharing your imaginative and frugal ideas with us. I came across a video today on Youtube called Making Craft Britain that showed the art of what we used to call clippy mat making and it reminded me of your artwork and thought you might enjoy it. It uses wool to weave pictures on hessian, but when I was small, my mum used to make big clippy rugs on frames using pieces of felt woven into hessian. This was something her mother taught her when she was small and something she taught her children to do, and we all used to enjoy doing little pieces of the pattern. Her rugs were so beautiful and hard-wearing and your blog often reminds me of those precious moments.

DeleteSnap!!,I got up at 5 too!,Cant just lay there when the sun is beaming down!.They look great Ilona.We never seem to have pop cans.I only buy the sparkling lemon water from Aldi and the odd bottle of cider for my self!.But as soon as they are empty,I cut the bottom half from them to have a small stash of bottle end flowers.Ive got red,pink and yellow in my garden and Ive got 5 more to do today cause my Mam wants some doing.Its amazing what you can do with stuff!,xx

ReplyDeleteI don't drink canned drinks either, with the exception of cider, then it's only now and again. There are plenty of cans discarded in the street.

Aren't they scary to birds and wildlife? We're supposed to be attracting them not scaring them away!
