Saving a few bob on an upgrade

My sun visor is looking a tad faded. Not sure how long it has been on my head, must be a couple of years. This is the third covering it has had, now it's time for the fourth. It started out as a cheapie pink one in a sale, a bargain at 50p.
First remove the old cover. The original pink is looking grubby, having got wet a few times so it's a bit mouldy looking in places. Most people might bin it, but not me.

Use these as templates to cut new pieces of fabric.

To recover, pin it down, sew it all on in tiny stitches, and bingo, a new sun visor.

Hopefully this should last a couple of years, then I'll do it all again. You can't beat a bit of make do and mend to save money.

Bye for now. ilona

  2. Now, you are stylin'!

The beauty of being able to sew is not looking like everybody else; being your own person.

  4. I don't make do and mend to save money, I do it because I enjoy creating, enjoy sewing , enjoy reusing good fabric, it's more of a hobby I suppose. Plus the fact that I don't like this throw away society. I suppose it's my age and the way I was brought up. You should see the patches on my gardening shorts, ha ha. Of course I can afford new ones, but this is much more fun ! Lol. Long live your visor ! :-)

  6. Your hat is so cute! Better to mend than bin, I say. My husband and I have been walking 3 miles a day, 5 days a week. Last week we did not walk at all. Not sure why, but just out of it, so I know what you mean. Here's hoping we both get back into it tomorrow!!

  9. Hi Ilona, I have just seen that Joanne is putting her 1939 house up for sale. I have just put an offer on another house, wish I had seen this first. Why is she selling?

    1. Hi. She is moving down south somewhere, to live with her boyfriend. I believe the house is to be sold with everything in it.

  12. I think I've watched through every re-incarnation of your sun visor. This must be the best 50p you've ever spent. Love the new covering :-)
