Making art with bits and bobs.

We've had lashings of rain, and winds strong enough to take the roof of a house. Luckily the roof on my summerhouse is still attached. I went outside to check it, just the once, flower pots blown over, my home made wooden tree blown over, but everything else ok. The cats have been inside all day, clever cats.
Looking at the news, some folks have had a terrible time, I feel sorry for those who have been flooded again. The Humber Bridge has been closed to all traffic, no one allowed to cross at all. It's only the second time that has happened since it has been open. Trees have come down locally. I think it has calmed down a bit now, thank goodness.
So I have started on another project. I saw a video on assemblage and thought I would have a go. My friend gave me a flattish wooden case, I removed the handle, hinges, and fasteners, to split the top and bottom. You are supposed to use black Gesso to cover it and to add texture with scraps of fabric and paper. I haven't got any so I mixed PVA glue with black acrylic paint.
Then you stick down any bits and bobs you have lying around. Here is my collection, I used the hot glue gun for this. They are stuck fast in a matter of seconds.
Next you paint over everything. After I did this I thought I would add more bits and bobs because it didn't look full enough. I had to remove that square knobbly thing on the right because it hadn't stuck down properly, and wasn't taking the paint. In it's place I put a key and some small beads.

When painting over this I added even more bits and bobs. It's supposed to have lots of texture. The next stage is more painting, in metallic colours. I'll do that tomorrow. I have started on the second one because I mixed too much paint and PVA, so I thought I would use it up.

If you want to have a go at this, here is a video. Easy to follow, very well explained.

Looking at Ina's video, I think I need to add even more bits and bobs.
Bye for now. Toodle pip.  ilona

  2. I like yours...but looking at Ina's picture I think multiple layers are in order... and more bits and bobs for texture... Ina's layers add dimension.

    1. This is a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle, trying to work out what pieces fit where.

  6. That is so neat and you could actually do a themed box, like kitchen or bathroom in the color of the bathroom or kitchen. How fun. I like this.

  7. I keep a couple of boxes of bits like these pieces, old screws,keys,dice,marbles,buttons...infact any bits that I have come across over the years, lol.I knew that they would come in useful one day!.I am going to try this, because I have a couple of small canvas pictures that my Daughter was getting rid of,so turned around they make small boxes.I was thinking of giving the bits n bobs to the charity shop last week when I took my 30 pieces of unwanted clothing down...but I was worried that they might think that I was giving them a box of rubbish, lol.Im so glad that I kept them because this looks just the sort of thing that I would enjoy doing!.After I have peeled veg for dinner,I am going to make a start on one!....Of thread again..I know,lol...But for any frugal Leicester people reading, there is a Edible Food shop opened in Andrews Street,Leicester. They sell fruit, veg and flowers..given by supermarkets...and you pay on what you need and can afford basis. They also sell tinned stuff and other things at really knock down prices. They have a website and facebook page so you can find the opening times there. It is open to everyone. So Im going to try it one day this week and see what its like,xx

  8. Glad you never had any real trouble with the storms. We had lots of trees blown down and a few cars overturned. I overlook lots of fields and it was very noisy but at least we are safe.
I like your new idea for the tray, it's amazing what you can do with lots of little bits and bobs.

  9. We are always saving tiny bits and pieces on a box and would be just right for a project like this. Looking forward to seeing your finished box Ilona and I'm sure it will look amazing once it's finished. I'm always impressed with your creations and you always have a great finish. Thanks for sharing the video :)
