Ghost town

I went to the Post Office in town this afternoon, because our little pop up PO doesn't do car tax. I parked my car and walked to it up the High Street. Very sad to see it like a ghost town. Most shops closed, some never to open again, one or two people sitting on the benches, probably bored out of their minds with nothing else to do. Nobody in the Post Office. I paid for my car tax, paid my utilities bill, and took some cash out with my card. And that was it. Walk back to the car and come home.

I haven't bothered to listen to what Boris has to say, but from the reactions of others to his latest change of rules, I gather it's not good news. They say he keeps changing the goal posts, so what's new. Isn't that how it's always been. Furlough has been extended yet again, paying people to stay at home. Most of them won't have jobs to go back to anyway as more companies go bust. What a mess.

Bye for now.   Toodle pip.  ilona

  1. Hello Ilona I think we may be able to pitch our tents somewhere come summer.thats if rules don't change again.the people who have lost there jobs and businesses must be in a real mess by now.i really feel for them as many have worked hard for years to build these then they have nothing so sad to see rows and rows of empty shops and just people wandering looking bewilderedx

    1. Hello Jo. I think it's going to be a long road back to normal, if we ever get there. I can't see businesses taking on the empty shops for the foreseeable future.

  2. Sounds like a very negative reaction you have today Ilona. Think.positive and embrace the better times to come. I don't know where you heard the reactions but it is never possible to please everybody, it is the way of the world. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

  3. I listened to Boris for all of a minute and then switched off..... I can't see common sense ever getting into his, or the Government's heads.

    1. I am beginning to think having common sense is an affliction.

  4. After listening to the broadcast yesterday it seems our lives are now being organised and dictated by 'the scientists' Keep people locked up for as long as possible. He did say that we will have to live with this virus just as we live with flu. I've said that all along. But other than that, complete BS. As you say, common sense is a rarity these days. Now the weather is getting better, people will be out and about, and so they should be. Both for their physical and mental health. Time to move on and shut off to these buffoons spouting nonsense and false promises.

  5. Totally agree Rachel and I am definitely not a fan of Boris or this Government and agree there does not seem to be much common sense there. However, having read what has been suggested as a way out of this pandemic, not from other people's blogs I hasten to add. I am not sure what other choices were available, we don't want to be in lockdown forever but it would be silly and dangerous to come out of it too quickly. Its strange when I ask people who complain about the situation, what their alternative suggestion would be, they don't seem to have one. I am genuinely interested in other people's point of view and alternative ideas.

  6. Consign this virus to the bin where it belongs. The vast majority of people have now been vaccinated. Infections and deaths are receding day by day. Accept that all kinds of germs make up our world. Life is for living not being shut away.

  7. The so-called vaccine doesn't stop infections or transmission and lessens symptoms somewhat ... so really, what is the point?

    1. I think a lot of people believe that they will not get infected or be able to transmit after vaccination. The message they are receiving is get the jab and get back to normal living. Nothing will convince them otherwise.
Many will react in a quite nasty way if you cast doubt on that cherished belief.
