Walking Group check in.

It's here, the first of the month, again. Time marches on. This is where the members of our International Walking Group check in with their  miles. How are you all doing? I just managed to scrape in with the 250 miles target for three months. Close again. I generally break the 1000 miles into monthly chunks of 84, and try and aim for that. When it gets close to the end of the month I usually have to fit in some extra walks to make sure I get there.

At this time of the year there is much to do in the garden. If I keep on top of the mowing and trimming hedges it does not get out of hand and start growing wild. It doesn't have to be perfect, every blade of grass in it's place, it just needs to be a bit tidy with rough edges. I share it with wildlife. I see a lot of front gardens being block paved or tarmacked. They look so boring. No doubt convenient if the occupants have several cars. Oh to have lots of money to get a landscaper in to do all the work. We have a man in the village who keeps gardens tidy for the old folk, I am not old by the way, ha ha. I could call on him any time, but I will continue doing it myself while I can still move about.

Anyway, I digress. Are you managing to juggle all that you have to do with all that you should do, and all that you want to do. Or are some jobs pushed aside? Are you making time for some exercise? Lets us know.

Crafty Club is on this morning, so I'm going to sit with the ladies in the Village Hall for a couple of hours. I put a video out yesterday so if you want to see it have a stroll over to my channel. Or a jog if you feel so inclined. It's here.

Catch ya later. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. I managed 144 miles in March. Sadly my Mum died suddenly half way through the month and as an only child I’ve had to single handedly arrange her funeral and support my step dad. I’m so glad I pushed ahead at the beginning of the challenge and have plenty of miles banked up as I feel
drained and exhausted. I was very sad to read your post about your brother Stephen. Always so hard when someone becomes estranged from their family. Thank you once again for your encouragement and being an excellent role model.

    1. So sorry to hear that. It's a big responsibility that you had to take care of everything. You deserve some 'me' time. Pamper yourself. A walk in the countryside and let your mind wander where it wants to go. Thank you for your kind words.

  2. Hello Ilona,
Almost back in my old routine I managed to walk 70 kilometers in March!
I try to wrap my walks around my 5 weekday mornings offering care and support to elderly (90+) people at their homes.
All that brings me peace, health and fulfilment. That's what I call Happiness.
Love from Dokkum in the Netherlands,
    Jeanneke.

    1. Hello Jeanneke. Your routine sounds ideal to combine tasks. Both you and your elderly friends benefit. You are spreading happiness. Love from me and my cats.

  3. Between a rug hooking camp which required me to be out of town for a week and rainy weather, I was still able to log 88 miles. Yard work has started but hubby does most of that. Last year in addition to our yard, we mowed and maintained our neighbor's yard. His memory was failing so quickly that the family felt it was better that he be moved to an assisted living home. Fortunately, the family has allowed a family member to move into his home, so we don't have to maintain his yard.

    1. Hello Kay. Good luck with juggling all you have to do. At least your workload is not so demanding now. 88 miles is brilliant.

  4. Started March strong but as you said garden jobs start to increase not to mention this month was full of birthday's, high days and holidays which necessitated visits to family. However I managed to clock up 93 miles.

  7. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers, my total for March is 164km (102miles) so that brings my total for the three months to 444km (277miles). The weather here in Brisbane is finally starting to cool down so now it's very pleasant to walk.
theboatgal, so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother.
Bye for now, Phyllis, Brisbane Australia

    1. Hello Phyllis. Thanks for checking in. Fantastic miles. I have been reading about Australia having a 'spend cash' day today. Queues at banks to get cash out of the machines. Hope that catches on everywhere.

    2. We do need to all start using cash again. The only difficulty is some shops and self service machines don't accept money now. They have closed all banks in my local high street.People are concerned that cash is dirty and can get diseases from it, even although we've used it for hundreds of years.

    3. People have well and truly been brainwashed. My bank in the High Street is now closed. I will continue to withdraw cash from my account at the Post Office. Walk out of shops empty handed if they don't take cash.

    4. I agree with everything you say, it's worrying how quickly our banks are disappearing. It does appear to be part of a bigger agenda. However, as a single parent to a child with severe learning disability and no car. I don't really have the luxury of travelling out of town. It's too stressful with a child that can't cope on public transport.

  8. I try to get out everyday no matter what the weather. I struggle as I have arthritis in both knees and am a carer for my husband who has mental health issues. I have walked since I was a child as we never had a car. I'm 71 now and still love being outside in the air. I've recently signed up with the local litter picking group 'The Wombles' and am hoping this will help motivate my hubby to come along to help. I haven't been counting my miles though, I hope you won't mind x

  10. I've now got a back brace, but it's helping me to walk more than I can without, had a lovely walk the other day, a trundle in comparison to what you can achieve, but it was so good to get out in the fresh air and looking over fairlight cove, enjoy your walking 🌹

  11. I really don’t understand people’s desire to insist on using cash. it makes no sense to me to go to the post office, ask for pieces of paper and then carry those pieces of paper to a shop and exchange them for goods.

If you have a bill to pay at the post office do you first withdraw the cash and the give the cash back to the cashier?

    1. You don't have to understand. It's all about personal freedom, and choice.

Answer to the second question. Yes. Why does it bother you? The way I pay for things is nothing to do with you.
