All gifts are gratefully received at my house. If someone wants to give me a bottle of wine which has already been opened, that's fine by me. My friend Helen bought a bottle by mistake and decided that it was well below their usual standard. One sip of it was enough, the top was screwed back on and it ended up at my house. I am happy to relieve them of their unwanted purchase. I would never turn my nose up at a free, almost full bottle of wine, thank you very much.
This bottle of wine could have come from the very best vineyard in southern France, it could be vintage wine stored hundreds of years deep underground in the coolest of cellars. It could have but maybe it wasn't. It could be worth thousands of pounds, but perhaps not quite that much, ok well probably not. How would I know that this wine is not the best in the world, if I have never tasted the best in the world?
So, how can I enjoy my free dirt cheap eyewateringly expensive wine? Simple. By relaxing on a comfortable sun lounger with a beautifully soft and fluffy cushion, reading a review of Holywoods greatest stars, and getting a tan in the blistering hot sunshine wearing my forty year old pink bikini, beside the pool of the Plaza Hotel in fabulous Monte Carlo.
No, this isn't my back garden. With a little bit of imagination you can transport yourself anywhere you want to be. You can drink expensive wine, and you can spoil yourself with lavish holidays. It's how you look at life that counts.
Ha ha, you look a Bobby Dazzler in your pink bikini!
ReplyDeleteWell, you've got the figure for it.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it isn't Chateau Neuf du Pape? Whatever it may be I am sure you are enjoying laying there in the sunshine in your pretty pink bikini, maybe you should take a dip in the pond, oops I mean pool lol
ReplyDeleteCheers Ilona, it's always lovely to drop in and read your updates! You always make me smile!

If it's got a screw top, it's not expensive. I have drunk so little wine in my life, and none expensive, that I would have to take someone's word for expensive! Or good! Enjoy your wine and pink bikini.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one Ilona. I've transported myself onto a quiet beach in the sunshine with a size 12 body. lol
ReplyDeleteWe had a discussion at work today about that email thing that went round a while back, frugal tips on how to deal with 'left-over wine'. Of course, the answer is... there's never any left over, but the frugal tip is, if you have a sip and don't like it, freeze it in an ice cube tray and drop into casseroles (etc) for a bit of oomph. Voila!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your day in St Tropez
Hi Janet, I asked Helen about using it in cooking, she said it wasn't even fit for that. Anyway, it's gone now, I drank it :o)
ReplyDeleteWaste not want not as they say......

Ilona, we have the same taste in bikinis!! It will be warm enough for us to take dinner outside tomorrow...I'm looking forward to it so much anyone would think we are going to eat in the Caribbean! Life is what you make it!

Well said Ilona, Jane and Chris. Life is definetly what you make of it! This post has cheered me up and as for the wine if someone gave me the most expensive I wouldn`t know any different.x
ReplyDeleteFound your blog recently and think it's great. Love your outlook on life!
ReplyDeleteI'm just hoping you remembered to put sunscreen on - you don't want sunburn! I love your blog - it's funny and quirky and interesting and informative and reminds me often, as you do here, that life is what you make it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. I dont drink red wine so no idea what a cheap or expensive wine would taste like but a read in the garden on a sunny day - ideal!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! That actually looks like a brilliant idea, even if it is a bit nippy! I know I've got a bottle of wine leftover from Christmas around here somewhere.. :D
ReplyDeleteMQ - what are you like ?
ReplyDeleteGood wine is wasted on me too, it's the affect it has that counts not how much it cost - hic !!
I love your entire attitude to life Ilona. Your mention of a pink bikini took me back to the South of France which is where I last wore a bikini - well the bottom half of it...nowadays I am well covered up!
ReplyDeleteAs to the wine, if it doesn't make you feel ill, drink it if you want to.
ooh how did you get that piccy of yourself?
ReplyDeleteDid you set up the camera and then rush to get back to the chair in time for it to take it LOL?
I'm assuming the bikini is under wraps! That's what the world is all about, letting one's imagination take you to great places. I think that's why I love books, so much. I can just travel the world and drink home brew!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other comments i love your outlook /attitude on Life ilona💞💯.. -#lot's of #luck Levi xx ps'nice freebie bottle of plonk meanqueen😉
