Home made soup to give you a warm glow.

Porridge for breakfast and home made veggie soup for lunch. I am running down my food before I go shopping again, using up whatever I have. Four peppers out of a packet of five, reduced to 11p, out of date on the 8th. Courgettes from the garden. And four onions.
Chop into small pieces, start them off cooking in a splash of olive oil, add fruit juice, and water. Then add turmeric, black pepper, veg stock cube, and other spices. Simmer for ten minutes on a low gas, then pulverise with a stick blender. Delicious on a wet and miserable day outside. Put the hot pan on your knee to keep you warm and eat it straight out of the pan, save on washing up. There is enough for tomorrow.
Bring some sunshine into your life with home made soup. Tinned soup is not a patch on this.
I'm on a roll with posting now, there's no stopping me. Second one today, ha ha.

  3. Your soup looks delicious - I love soup and could live almost exclusively on it given half a chance. Sadly, my husband has to have something more substantial occasionally :)

  8. Ilona....those veg look fantastic. Hard to believe that the supermarkets feel they need to put such short dates on products. Soup looks fabulous.

  11. Great Ilona but I would add a handful of brown or red lentils to up the nutrional value and make it a bit more rib-sticking. Also I would a two drops of hot sauce ! Yum !

  13. Hi Ilona, Your soup looks very tasty, and quick to make too. You can't beat a big cup of hot soup and crusty bread on a cold day. My boys like butternut squash soup; I cheat a bit as it's quicker. I buy a bag of frozen butternut squash chunks and put in a pan with some chopped onion and a veg stock cube and when everything is soft, blitz it up. Youngest scrambles for it from the pan, so he can have it on his lap, straight from the stove. Of course when they are at school, I get the pan. ;-) I might give pumpkin a go, seeing as Halloween is nearly here. Need a chainshaw though to get through the skin... Enjoy what's left of your soup.   14. Lovely and comforting. I love to clean out my freezer and dump whatever I have on hand into the pressure cooker on a freezing day when I need something hot!

  16. You are right, nothing beats home made soup. Tinned soup has a chemical type taste to it I find.

  18. Hi Joan. I used pineapple juice from a carton. I use whatever juice I have, I think it gives it a bit more flavour.

    Hi Cumbrian, all my soup is that colour, ha ha. It's the turmeric I put in.

  19. I'm sure I put in a post here - when I nipped upstairs and saw your post, I was just in the middle of making sweet potato and rosemary soup. I was given a lot of rosemary branches and used lots to put in the soup. Just now come back from eating it with homemade bread and the smell was super and it tasted great too. It was the same colour as yours but I didn't put turmeric in though, good idea, that.
