Just in case I find myself in the position where it would be wise to wear a face covering, eg in a small room and in close proximity to other people, I have made myself a snood. I can't see this situation arising on a regular basis, I am not about to start mixing with people. But just in case, I will be ready.
A snood is easy to make, there are yooohoootooob videos out there. I used a piece of stretchy jersey fabric which used to be a skirt. Best if it's stretchy as it clings to the back of your head and doesn't fall off the end of your nose. You need to make a tube of just the right length for a snug fit, and join the two ends together.
There you go. It has several colours so I could turn the red or the blue or the green to the front. The fabric is soft on my skin, it will keep my neck warm, but I will struggle to cover my nose and mouth up for more than a few minutes before a panic attack sets in. Just trying it on leaves me gasping for air.
My lifestyle will remain the same. Lots of time outdoors, lots of time alone, stick with the few friends I know and trust, and assess each situation as it arises. If it doesn't feel safe then I don't join in. One of the advantages of relying on your own resources for entertainment means you can keep things simple.
It's the weekend. Have a good one. Toodle pip. ilona
I bought medical-grade masks as I am a Chronic Asthmatic and my husband had no decent immune system from being on certain medication. At present I use a silk mask. All you can breath through and actually offer decent protection both to yourself - and others. Not much point in having something you can't breath through.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with last paragraph - me too. I found a nice wee snood in a charity shop, I much prefer it to the masks. Right at the beginning of mask advice I made 40+ cotton masks and left them in the community re-use phone box in the village where I lived before - I learned yesterday that folk still have and use them, so I was pleased about that.
ReplyDeleteJust need to clarify, those 2 friends were grandparents and the parents thought it was OK for the grandparents to take care of kids with Covid? And then these grandparents were out mixing with others knowing they had Covid?
ReplyDeleteAnd then the couple who lost 5 members of their family - were those members vaccinated?
Apologies, Crystal. I've just deleted that waffling comment. You're right, it didn't make sense.
DeleteLOL! I didn't get it even after reading it twice! Just read the news that Pen Farthing got his staff out too and they are all safe and well in Islamabad. What a hero, he never gave up on animals and humans.
DeleteHere in California I wear a mask when grocery shopping, and for church tomorrow. I have moved to only wearing N95 masks as they offer best protection. However it is brutal to wear one for an hour as I do in church, hard to breathe. Mostly I spend time alone in my house, or with a couple friends and my sons and I enjoy quiet times.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks nice, have you cut it recently? Good idea your snood and multi purpose when the weather gets cooler. My brother in law and sister in law both wore one recently when Father in law look us all out for you a family meal.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot to be said for being a recluse-of-sorts. I am the same way. Don't reply on fabric to filter out the virus as it just wasn't made for such a thing. But people seem to think it was so... I can't say you're alone in your idea. Take good care~ Andrea
ReplyDeleteHave just read up on masks and sadly lots of other countries have found they make very little difference to the prevention of transmission of viruses.
ReplyDeletePeople say they haven't caught colds or flu but this is more likely due to social distancing, avoiding crowds, outdoor dining, and lockdowns.
Now that isn't something I ever expected to see on your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you are still reading my blog. Face coverings - masks do not work, it's been proven. A mask is a symbol of compliance. I wear my snood as a fashion statement.
DeleteLooks good nice alternative to a scarf ilona💕
ReplyDeleteNever thought I'd see this on your blog but it's more a scaft than a mask.. keep your kneck warm you can wear this In the house ,, very fashionable know not than I follow fashion myself 😃LOL
I have been wearing it in the house. It's lovely and snug.
