Yes, I was at Bolsover on Tuesday. I can't ever remember being so close to the castle before. I was pleasantly surprised at how big it is. English Heritage is the charity that runs it. If you want to take out an annual membership it is £59 for a senior. I didn't, but maybe I should have done if I want to visit more of these places.
I will put the outdoor photo's on this post, and the indoor ones will be posted tomorrow. It has had a lot of restoration work done on it, which is nice to see, rather than it be left to crumble into dust. As you walk around there are information boards, and QR codes to scan if you want to find out more on your fancy phone.
What an amazing door. They knew how to build them in those days. It's a work of art.
There is a walkway all around the top of the wall.
The gardens are all neat and tidy. The view looking out of the upper floor window of the tower.
There weren't many people about because it is out of season, and it was oh so cold.
Come back tomorrow and we'll take a look at the inside.
Coffee Morning at the club was so busy this morning. It was impossible for me to join in with the conversations because it was so very noisy. I will have to start going a bit earlier before everyone arrives, then leave early when it gets too busy.
Thanks for popping in. Toodle pip. ilona
Beautiful castle. The outside looks wonderful, the grounds look perfection. I can’t wait to see the inside. 😊😊

DeleteWhat a beautiful building, and the gardens look lovely even in winter. Nowadays, I think you could insult an architect by calling his work beautiful.

Art is everywhere. Beauty is everywhere. To me it's the same thing.
DeleteNot one I've visited or know much about, so thank you for the photos. Living in Wales, not too many English Heritage properties on our doorstep!!
