250 target, have you done it?

Hello, it's the first of the month, and you know what that means. Yep, check in day for the members of the International Walking Group. Three months gone, with a target of 250 miles for those who are heading for the 1000 in one year. I am on 261, yipeeeeee.

Now lets hear from you, how have you done? Have you made your own targets, or are you going all the way to the top with me? The weather in the UK is improving, more chances to go out, so get your boots on, or trainers if you prefer.

A pic or two from the archives. Anyone remember this famous setting in Yorkshire?

Another one from Yorkshire.
And another one from Yorkshire.
My tum is grumbling, I need food. A cooked breakfast sounds pretty good. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon. Toodle pip.  ilona

  1. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers.
Pretty regular walking for me, every day, and I have a total of 645 kilometres to show for it. Am right chuffed, and feeling quite fit for it. I may revise my target of 1930 klms upwards, but I will see how I go. We in Australia are in autumn now, and the weather is quite good for daily walking, but winter is on its way (I don't mind the cold, but the sometimes biting wind makes it uncomfortable) so I will walk then as much as I can. Looking forward to hearing how well everyone else is doing. Bye for now, Joy Central Victoria Australia.

    1. Good news from you, Joy. I am pleased to hear that you are feeling quite fit. That's the whole reason for doing it.

  2. I am no where near where I wanted to be.52 miles...but still better than nothing!.My nerves have been playing me up and some days I am barely able to go to the front of my house, without panic setting in.I think it is because there seems to be more people about and I dont want to be near them or pass them on the street. It sounds daft, but although I have been looking forward to the sun shining,I am glad that it is duller and colder here today, because these are the days when I seem to get out walking more.I think that I am going to start doing my walking earlier in the day, maybe about 8am.xx

    1. Good idea to go out earlier. Have a pee, brush your teeth, cup of coffee or tea, shoes on, don't bother to wash your face or comb your hair, just go.

  3. Hello all.
Only 22 miles this month. First I was poorly with mild covid for a couple of weeks, then confined to barracks because of the general appalling situation here in Brazil.

  5. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers!
I only walked 113 kilometers in these first three months of 2021. Still struggling with pain in my left leg and pelvis, even after physiotherapeutic treatment (dry needling) and excercise. Well, all due to that nasty fall in Jnauary. At my age (66) it takes longer to heal and come back, though I feel fit and happy!
Since this week I am allowed to walk 2 kilometers a day, building up by one kilometer a week, so it will take another month before I hopefully will be able to do my daily 6 km walks.
    But, anyway I am moving!
I also started some cycling, that's easier moving for my leg(s) because they don't have to carry ( all:>) ) my weight like when Iam walking.
Being outside is such a pleasure and a blessing in this northern part of my country, very close to the Waddensea, there's lots of space and fresh air.
    Not very crowded.
Greetings to you and all my fellow walkers!

    Jeanneke.

    1. Sounds like you have got a plan there. Only do what you are comfortable with.

  6. Hey Ilona,
For me this month 96 miles. It took quite some effort, because the first 3 days of the month I didnt feel very well at all (no Covid luckely). But I was not able to walk. At the moment a knee problem. But with some perseverence I managed the target of the month. Best wishes from a sunny Holland.

    1. At least you haven't got the hills to contend with in Holland. Take it nice and gentle, a little and often. Feet up in the evenings and relax.

  7. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers,
Here in the Arizona desert, the weather is wonderful, and so my dog and I walk three to four times a day, usually only a mile each time. My left knee meniscus is healing up almost completely now (took a year...). My year to date total walking is : 234! Yeah! It is very interesting to read about everyone’s progress around the world.

    1. I always picture lots of sand when you mention the desert. Your dog is very lucky to have regular walks. Great miles.

  8. My total to date is 341 miles. I won't be walking much for a few days because I have Achilles tendonitis on the right foot and some kind of issue with my left knee. I was still walking, but the doctor, whom I visited yesterday, said to rest for several days. It's supposed to be lovely out so I really hate that advice, but I'm going to take it. And get new shoes. I got a different brand in January, and I think that my feet and knees objected. Off to get a new pair of shoes this afternoon.

    1. You could do with a foot massage. Is there someone who could help. Soak feet in a bowl of water, elevate on a stool, and get someone to rub in sweet smelling lotion. Yes, get the right shoes. I change from boots to trainers depending on the surface I am walking on.

  9. Well done everyone!
We are not quite on target but have walked 214 miles so far this year.
We are aiming for 1000 so are not feeling down hearted.
I'm sure all of us in the British Isles are looking forward to the warmer weather are the relaxation of lockdown so that we can venture further on our walks.
    All the best for April.

    1. Venture further on our walk, that's music to my ears. I find that when I walk in a new area I don't even notice how many miles I have done because I am so enjoying the different scenery. When I check at the end of the walk I am pleased with what I have done.

  10. Hi Ilona, despite having a terrible start to this year (someone ran into me head-on in the snow in Feb and two weeks ago my husband had a stroke) I've managed 212 mile's do far. I'm hoping things can only get better from here on in! Viv

    1. You've had some rotten luck, but hopefully you will move on from it. Walking will help to clear your head, and put all the bad stuff behind you.

  11. For March I walked 66 miles and rode the stationary bike for 96. Hoping for April almost all my miles will be walking.

  12. Hi Ilona. I've done 255 miles so far this year. It's a must for me to get out every day even for just an hour and walk. It's a great effort on everyone's part..well done all.

  13. I think I might be back in stride (fingers crossed)! The weather is finally starting to warm up a bit and I managed quite a few good days without too much fatigue. 155 miles in March, for a total of 382 so far in 2021. Yippee!

  14. Morning all! Wow some of you folks have had a rough start to 2021 - wishing you well and speedy recoveries. I managed 23.2miles this month which I am quite pleased with as that includes 2 lengthy (for me) 5-mile walks. We have a Botanical Gardens nearby to where i live; I went for my first 2021 visit there on one of my walks and it was wonderful:lots of plants beginning to peep through and beautiful rhododendrons blooming in bright pinks. Onwards and upwards in April, gillian

  15. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers, just over 109 miles walked in March, making a total of about 331 so far this year. We are revamping part of the garden at the moment so totals for April might suffer a dip! Hope that everyone keeps well enough to reach their own targets, Vicki

    1. Thanks for checking in, Vicki. The garden project sounds exciting. You have a fantastic space to play around with there. Will there be vegetables?

  16. No more veg plots than before. This is more about boundaries. Some old, dead stumps of conifers need to be removed and we are replacing them with mixed, native hedging - a job and a half but 3 stumps removed yesterday!

  17. Checking in a little late but walked 120 miles in March which brings my annual total to 238. Now that warmer weather is coming I hope to be able to get more consistency in the numbers of days I can walk. It's amazing how sluggish I feel when I have to miss a day.
    Thanks for sharing everyone!
