Hello. An easy day for me today. I had a wander up the garden to check the temperature outside, thought I might go for a little bimble around the village. Oooh, too cold, I'll wait until tomorrow. It's been raining a lot as well. I've been amusing myself on yoootooob, watching arty crafty videos to get back into swing of things. Some were about painting stones, I have some in a drawer so got them out and made a start on them.
The cats have been demanding my attention. Mayze was so pleased that she had someone to sleep with last night, and wanted to snuggle up on top of me. I can't sleep like that so moved her to one side. This morning Mayze was the first one to sit on my knee while I was drinking my mug of coffee, much to the disgust of Heidi who was looking daggers at her. Heidi gets most of my attention anyway because she sits next to me on the computer desk.
I made this little video while I was away, just uploaded it this afternoon. It was from Day 3, Burnley to Haworth.
My walking total now stands at 309. The target for the 1000 mile challenge for three months is 250, so I am ahead at the moment. This means I have some miles in the bank so to speak, so I won't need to do my three miles every single day.
So how are you all doing with your walking challenges? It will be the 1st of April on Sunday, that is the day to report in with your miles. I have opened up the comments to include Anonymous. If you are using this please include your name with your text, so I can see at a glance that it is a genuine comment from a genuine reader. It will make it easier for me to sort out the spam rubbish.
I'm still coughing and sneezing but it is easing off a bit now. Chuffin cold, haven't had one for years typical that I should catch one at the worst possible time. I blame the lad on the train who was coughing a lot just across the aisle. I should have moved seats.
That's me done for tonight. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

Your posts the last week really make my walking feet itch for a longer hike!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back home. You need to take care of yourself and accept your body isn't as resilient as it was. It's not easy as Im a person who loves being out and about!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had another grand adventure!
ReplyDeleteOur dog, Roxy, hangs all over us if we’re gone for awhile. She’s especially attached to my husband. So spoiled!

Loved the video but do wish you had a walking partner on these lonely stretches. Does your mobile work out on the moors?
ReplyDeleteGlad your staying in and not out in the cold.
Hi. Does my mobile work out on the moors? I don't know, I never bother to look. It probably does.
DeleteGlad you are ok Ilona. I loved your posts from your latest adventure. Great to be ahead of your target miles.
ReplyDeleteHope the cold clears up very soon.

Hi Ilona!,Its lovely to be able to comment again!.Ive still been reading your blog daily and really enjoyed your holiday photos.Sorry to hear your not feeling great but now your back home and eating plenty of your veg,Im sure you will soon feel better....I was thinking....would it be easier,if when us Anons comment..we put our names first before we leave our message?.Maybe even in capitals or does that look as though we are shouting our names, lol.Just wondering what would be a quicker option for you?,Anyway, its lovely that we can join in again and glad that you got home safe and sound.Debi,xx
ReplyDeletePut your name either first or last. Even better is to click on the 'Comment as', option, you get a drop down menu, insert your name in the 'Name/url' box and ignore the url bit. It will then come up as the header to your comment.
DeleteOk,Thanks for that Ilona...now Im going to try it...testing,testing,lol.If it works im going to think what a smarty pants i am,lol,xx
DeleteYeeeesssss!!!,I did it,lol.Thank you.Ive always wondered how that was done but i aint very clever on laptops ect.I think i might write an award out for myself and frame it!,lol. Thanks again!xx
DeleteHappy to hear you are recovering. Hopefully the cold and flu season is over for now...well, it certainly is here in Arizona, 90 degrees for the next 10 days...much too soon. I can still walk in the mornings. When it gets to 90 degrees, the asphalt gets too hot for dog paws, so we switch all our walking to early mornings. Thanks for the photos of your travels, it is so nice to see other lovely places.
ReplyDeleteI've missed not being able to comment. Missed not being able to write about the sad departing of lovely Garcia, or comment on your pretty Dorset button art work. Glad you are back to letting us all through, and it's a shame that you had to cut your trip short. You are lucky to be blessed with the good health to do that amount of walking though. Mayze must have really missed you very much, Heidi too. I can just imagine the looks Heidi gave Mayze. Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Jean, and thank you for including your name in the box marked 'Name/url'. I can see at a glance that you are a regular reader.
DeleteSorry that your walk had to be cut short with a cold. I think I must have sent it to you from New Zealand as I'm just recovering from one myself:). Lovely to travel with you by blog. I do enjoy your photos and rambles.
ReplyDeleteElaine from Birmingham You are so brave. I would be terrified in the middle of nowhere. Also clever reading maps, I cannot do that either. So glad you are back home safe, have a good rest until your cold passes. Is it special paint to decorate stones?x
ReplyDeleteHi. I am using acrylics and marker pens. They are mainly for indoor use, I shall have to look at varnishing them if they are to be put in a garden outside.
DeletePleased to hear from you. I wondered whether you'd need time off to recover. I hope you salvaged some happy thoughts from your walk and will soon be clear from all cold symptoms. At least you will have built up immunity again though it's not much consolation at the moment. In the meantime spoil yourself over the weekend and shake off the cold.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if you've inspired several people to get long distance walking. I was interested in your comment about the various routes from long distance paths. We tend to avoid popular routes too though I’d love to do the coast to coast one or walk along Hadrian's wall. Sue
Hi Sue. If you do get to do a recognized long distance path, don't choose the busiest times because you will find the accommodation will be booked months in advance. There are companies that will transport your bags for you on some of the popular routes, but you will have to book your accommodation so they know your stop over places.
DeleteThanks for those wise words Ilona.
DeleteIn reality I doubt whether we will ever do one of the popular ones. I like to be alone in the landscape!
Perhaps we can work out a route, like you do, that will avoid the crowds. Sue
I'm pretty gungho about things but I'm not sure I would want to walk on my own across those moors ...so good for you Ilona I admire you for that. Went walking in the Yorkshire dales once with about 30 other kids from my school so that doesn't count does it? Rae x
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed reading about your travels. Hope you feel better soon. SueM
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe and sound as your blog is vital to my sanity in this crazy world. Sharon x
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your walk - especially so as it included Brontë country. Was sad about Garcia - I couldn’t comment at the time because I am an “anonymous”. Needless to say, was upset for him and his owners. Natalie
ReplyDeleteIlona, I was watching your walk 'from the side-lines' and pleased you called it a day with your heavy cold (you don't get colds so something was amiss); I just wanted to say that I had a downturn in health and exercising as I had a breast lump: the marvellous NHS got me through the procedures within 5 weeks - gp, consultant, scan, biopsy, results etc. I have nothing to worry about and shouldn't re-occur. I do love your trips as it is enlightening to see where you go and places you visit. Amanda
ReplyDeleteSaw an interesting video and thought of you. This gal blew up a child's balloon and covered half of it with buttons glued on with white glue. The buttons were many colors. When all was dried, she pierced the balloon letting the air out and proceeded to cut away carefully the collapsed part of the balloon. Left was a lovely bowl. It was so pretty to see. Hope your cold is better.
ReplyDeleteHi Trudy,I have a box of buttons, that have come off things that are special to me and your comment has given me a great idea what to do with them. Thanks,xx
DeleteHi Ilona - it's my birthday today and it's so good to be able to comment again on your blog. We have been following your trip and wallowing in all the lovely pics and descriptions.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased that you are home again safely and that you enjoyed your break.
Wendy (Wales)
Hi, I am new to your blog and you are inspiring me to walk. It is too cold here in the winter but finally warming up here. Your miles astound me though, I don't think I could do all that. hugs to you, lj
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on your trip - does Puddytat come on all of your travels and has he ever been in any perilous situations! T.pip & all that!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are home safe and recovering from your cold. Have you ever done a post of the items you take along on such a walking trip?
ReplyDeleteI used to backpack with the scouts and the pack got full quick, but of course we needed food, bedding and a shelter that you don’t need to take along.
Take care.
Hi Ilona, I hope you are over your bugs soon. Roll on warm weather I say! Jane xx
ReplyDeletecan you 'give' me some of your miles please?! pitiful total so far for me - been ill but also very lazy this month - am preparing for the embarassing reveal on the 1st!!!
