Today, Oscar is the star of the show. Here is a little video I made of him yesterday. He certainly knows where his home is now. Comfy bed, regular servings of food, choice of menu, doors opening and closing for him so he can come and go as he pleases. He is in pussycat heaven.
Thanks to all those who checked in yesterday with their mileage. If you haven't yet done so, you can go back to that page at any time. Next check in date 1st of March. ilona

He is gorgeous and certainly knows his own mind! You have every right to feel flattered to be chosen.
ReplyDeleteLucky Oscar, he'll have a loving home with you. I do like the fact that you use the word 'afford', it seems to have dropped out of our language now, as some people do not keep their spending in check and just use credit cards as they must have the latest 'this and that' without realising they actually have to pay the money back.
ReplyDeleteHe's lovely Ilona. I am glad he chose you!
ReplyDeletePeter, if you watch the video it will answer your question.
ReplyDeleteWatched it. Any cat will go where it's being fed. Anyone who keeps feeding a healthy well fed cat that has obviously not been neglected is depriving the owner of that cat. If nobody had fed the cat he would have returned to his home where there would be food for him. I've had this happen to me, people down the lane kept feeding my cat and letting her stay in their house, despite me having a cat flap and copious amounts of food here for her. She was stuffed with food at the other house. Apart from keeping her locked in the house there wasn't a thing I could do. We loved her but she was enticed away from us. So, if you hadn't fed the cat it would have returned home. It wasn't starving or neglected was it?
DeleteNo, Oscar wasn't starving or neglected. He was getting food from another house in the next street, he kept going backwards and forwards, I saw him cross the road one day and made enquiries. Found the other house and spoke to the woman.
DeleteHe was roaming for eight months before he turned up here, I found his owner and got the full story from her. Oscar is from a feral family of cats before he was taken to the rescue. When they chose him they were warned that he would wander off, but they were willing to give him a chance. The dynamics of the household changed, it went from being a quiet house with two people, to a noisy one with chickens, two other cats, a baby, and they moved house as well. Oscar left home several times, each time he was taken back and kept in, only to go again when he had the chance.
Although quite tame now, there is a streak of feral in him, he doesn't want to be contained. When he is in it's on his terms, when he wants to go out he goes to the door. I can't force him to stay in, if he decided he wants to live somewhere else I would have to let him go.
I am sorry it didn't end well with your cat, but it isn't always down to someone else feeding it when it goes walkabout. If I hadn't given Oscar any food, he would have found it somewhere else. Although his previous owners loved him and cared for him, he wouldn't have gone back home, because he didn't want to be there.
a pretty cat lovely
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love it that he's gone from spot to spot. He certainly looks quite happy. And how sweet that you've accommodated his Kingship!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely chap he is lucky you ☺☺
ReplyDeleteAm happy to see that he has settled in now! Complex creatures are cats; you're absolutely right that they definately know their own minds.
ReplyDeleteHe looks right at home there. He knows he has found his happy place to live and the right person to look after him. I wouldn’t be without our four cats.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be a cat. Just like him.
ReplyDeleteFriends of ours in England had a cat who would also appear, sometimes eat and sometimes come in to sleep. It went on for months. In the end they (as you did,) discovered where he lived. He was a pub cat and lived in the pub along with his brother. He went back and forth for months quite happily and then decided to stay with them. I think it was always quiet at their house. He lived with them for the rest of his long life, the landlord had given his O.K.!
ReplyDeletehi ilona mayze heidi and oscar lovely to see oscar has settled in nicely with you. i am sure you will all be very happy and he is so lucky to have such a nice kind person to care for him. love liz amy and benny.xxxx
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful pure white cat visits me regularly. As a kitten she had a collar and tag so I know which humans think they own her.
