I came across this yesterday and thought it was funny. I haven't heard of George Carlin before, probably because I don't usually watch American comedy, I prefer old British comedy. But what the heck, give it a go.
I'm not sure if anyone else will like this, his style is a bit like the old standups that toured clubland years ago. Wheeltappers and Shunters style. The politically correct brigade will perhaps cringe at his colourful language. That's a hint that he swears a lot, so don't watch if you are offended by profanities.
I don't like swearing in everyday conversations, no need for it, but as part of an act on the stage it adds a bit of extra naughtiness to the narrative, which makes me titter. As with a lot of his comedy, some of it is very close to real life. His observations are very quirky. Having watched some of his earlier work when he was a much younger man, he definitely developed a no holds barred technique in his later years. The younger George seemed to be holding back, the older George couldn't give a shit.
George is no longer with us. He had a large following, there are plenty of videos on yooootoooob, so I have a lot more titter material to watch while I eat my meals in front of the computer. Only hope I don't splatter the screen with a mouthful of mush.
I put some stuff out on the front, free to take, yesterday, slowly the pile is shrinking. The garage is beginning to look very tidy. Last night I did a late walk and my eyes were looking up to the sky rather than the ground. My friend Janet told me that the Space Station would be going over at 10.08pm, and yes, I saw it. A bright light moving quite quickly. The sky was mainly clear with a few wispy clouds, and there it was. It disappeared for a few seconds when it went behind a cloud, then came back into view and off it went over the horizon. Apparently you can get an app from Nasa which will send an email to let you know when it will be passing over. I don't know about apps, but this web site might have the information you need if you want to find out when you can see it. Spot the Station.
Right, must go. I've had an early bowl of cereals, will need a second breakfast at about 10am.
Enjoy your Wednesday. Toodle pip. ilona

I dont usually watch American comedy, but this was funny!.I havent heard of him before, but I will look out for some of his stuff on You Tube.I bet you was pleased to get your garage sorted and offer stuff to other people. It is great when unwanted stuff can be of some use to someone else.I have passed on another 3 books and Ive got a 4 country life mags that I hope to find a new home for.Yes,they are few years old,but still very readable!.We are going to a riverside for our walk today. There are lots of swans, ducks and wildlife so it should be a nice hour out in the fresh air.We are going this morning before it gets too hot.Keep smiling!,xxx
ReplyDeleteI don't find American comedy particularly funny, but George was definitely an out of the box thinker.
DeleteHe was so popular when I was younger. He had a wacky character called the "Hippy dippy Weatherman" that made us laugh. Thanks for reminding me of him and sharing a video.
ReplyDeleteHe was very wacky. He also seemed to have a sixth sense and see into the future. Listening to some of his acts, it's uncanny how a lot of what he predicted came true.
DeleteLOVED Hippy Dippy Weatherman. His mouth got filthier as he got older, which I did not care for, and he got VERY political, which I also did not care for, but he was hilarious for years and years prior to that with a very good mind.
DeleteThere is an email option for the space station which informs you when it is passing, I have been signed up for 3 years, all free and up to you if you want to renew after 12 months, I went to visit my son in Brisbane AUS at Christmas and I took them outside one night to watch it pass over, amazing to realize you are on another continent and still view it!!

My friend gets the emails.
DeleteBeen a fan of George Carlin's since the early days. The man is still as relevant today as he was when he made his observations. The Will Rodgers of his day, if you will, and Will Rodgers' observations are still relevant today, also.
ReplyDeleteI will look that one up, Judy. It's interesting how some people seem able to predict the future.
DeleteOmg, this is so funny. I must watch more of his videos. And so much of what he says is true! A lot of it does resonate with what is happening in the world today. The Brits I like include Steptoe and Son, George and Mildred, and the Scottish Rab C Nesbitt. Eamon
ReplyDeleteHi Pragmatic,I used to love Steptoe and Son and George and Mildred when I was a child. These programs also proved very useful to me all these years later, when I used to have my lovely Auntie stay with me before she died last year. She had dementia and due to being able to get the full shows on the laptop,I was able to put them on for her.It was lovely to see her laughing again.xx
DeleteGeorge Carlin is funny, but I have a problem with the last statement he made there. The same brush on all four areas? Yikes! I'd go with toothbrush and washcloth for the appropriate areas.
ReplyDeleteIt amuses me that his jokes are meant to shock. I think I am pretty unshockable.
DeleteI think George had a point about germs, the dirtiest people I know never seem to get ill.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite George Carlin quote is an observation he delivered late in life when he was attempting to declutter: "'Home' is where you keep your stuff when you're out getting more stuff. Stuff? 'Stuff' is your stuff; other people's stuff is junk."
