ReplyDeleteYeah keep going Ilona!!! Your garden Art is Great, how could anyone cringe, its not like your painting your whole house yellow or something is it? Some people are really dull and sad. I actually think your Arts designed really well and in London you would pay a fortune for one-off pieces like this.

ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I agree with the two anonymous commenters. Nature can't be improved on, we have such gloriousness in nature it doesn't need any embellishment, least of all with garish colours or shiny whatever the other things are.
You could at least have left your hedge high so others wouldn't be able to see them.
Sorry to be negative with my first comment but I felt quite strongly about this. The colours and textures and wondrous things in nature are quite staggeringly beautiful on their own.

ReplyDeleteIt surprises me that someone who loves rambling and the beauty of the countryside would want to display something so garish.
I second the above post, you post such lovely pictures of the countryside but then put those brightly coloured plastic pots and painted twigs in the front of your garden which really don't "go", they look like childrens toys which someone has abandoned.

isn't it interesting how all the negative posts but one are anonymous? Wonder if they are the same person?
ReplyDeleteNo I can say they are not, I am the second poster and I genuinely think Ilona is great but the art gallery in the garden isn't. Look at her pictures on her walks and see what I see.
ReplyDeleteStifling dissent in comments is rather silly, and now and again when one reads a blog one has to say what one thinks.
I'm happy to provide an email address but dont follow on google and just read from time to time.
You don't have to follow the herd you know.
I really don't know why anonymous and anonymous are getting het up about this, in fact I'm rather chuffed that my art has provoked such a reaction. It would have been terrible if everyone had ignored it.
ReplyDeleteI don't follow the herd either, I am garish, and I like garish. I like fun, quirky, oddball, eccentric, whimsical, fancifull, offbeat, and the countryside. That is me, I have many facets.
I shall put what I like in my front garden, and if people don't like it they can walk on by. At least I haven't got a load of weeds, old tyres, wrecked bikes, wheelie bins, and an old mattress out there, hummmm, that's a thought, if I give that old fridge a coat of paint...... :o)
Hi, I've been reading here for a while but not commented before. I personally don't like the 'art' but you are entitled to make whatever you want. However by purposely lowering your hedge you are inflicting it on others who may also not share your views. I think that unless you intended to shock or offend your neighbours then you would have put it somewhere for your eyes only.
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't like to see the weeds, old tyres, wrecked bikes etc. in your neighbours garden, why should they have to look at your painted sticks in pots etc.

I agree with you, Ilona; I believe the purpose of modern art is to provoke a reaction - to make people think, debate. If there was a definitive answer to the question `what is art`, I don`t think it would exist.

Dead right Josie, tin cans. I've run out of them. Now need to go and get a four pack of Blackthorn Cider, and sup em quick, ha ha. Not a bird scarer though, it doesn't have a function.
