A stitch in time

I've been sorting through my cupboards looking for stuff I don't need anymore. Me, Sue, and Janet are off to Jerry Greens Dog Rescue Open Day tomorrow, we have a stall in the marquee, and will be selling stuff to make a few bob for our rescue pussies.

I found this table mat, at least I think it's a table mat, I suppose you could hang it on the wall if you wanted to. It is 35" x 18", hand embroidered and was left by the previous owner of the house. It must have taken someone many hours of sewing, it's all done in chain stitch.

I have no information about it, I wonder if there is a story behind it, who made it, where was it made etc. There are small round mirrors embedded in some of the designs, it looks very much like an Indian style. Anyone have any ideas?







You can see all the stitching on the underside. Someone had a lot of patience.











Shall I put it out for sale on our table tomorrow ? No, I'll keep it, I like it.

    I just took a few boxes of books and bags and things to my friend Sheila who looks after unwanted pussies. There was a lovely pair of shoes from my Aunt and when she saw them her eyes lit up! I said she was welcome to them for herself, not to sell.

    She does such a lot for these cats, they all adore her. They are all running around her house.

    That is a lovely piece of work. Glad you decided to keep it.

    Ilona, it`s a bangladeshi bridle gift. I`ve seen one like it some years ago. A friend of mine was given one of these. They are to give luck and harmony to the wedding couple. Keep it. It will be a lucky charm for your house, too.

    It's a lovely piece of work, lovely colours. I'd keep it too. I'd put it in a frame under glass and hang it, just to keep it clean, it would be a shame for it to get dirty after all the work that has gone into it. I hope it brings you luck like Sarina said. I hope the weather is sunny for you tomorrow and you make lots of money for the kitty kats. Christy x

    Its very pretty and I would certainly keep it.
