Hello bloggerettes. Look what I can see from my window, ha ha. A skip has turned up across the road. My neighbour is having a sort out and he's preparing the house for when his family move in. Looks like he is taking out wardrobes and cupboards and replacing them. We are on speaking terms so I went across for a nosey while he was there and he said I could take anything I wanted. There wasn't anything I wanted, but there were things that a charity shop could sell, so I had a dive in.
Plates and bowls with a floral pattern. A glass fruit bowl and a glass flower vase. A set of tea, coffee, and sugar containers. With a few of my own things added I had two bags to take to the Age UK shop. While I was there I had a browse, they had quite a lot of stock in. I found a really nice jacket for £1.
The colour is wrong on this picture, it's darker like the one above.
This caught my eye, a dark polyester skirt with colourful flowers on it. Another bargain for £1.I doubt I will wear it as a skirt, I think it would look better as a top. This will be fashioned into something else.
And a piece of thick curtain material for £1. Someone has cut the bottom off a very large curtain, there's plenty for shopping bags, or it would also look nice as cushion covers. It isn't as red as it is in the picture, the real colour is a lot darker. Flash photography distorts the colours.
Oh dear, I was supposed to be taking stuff in, not fetching it out, ha ha. Never mind, all good bargains.
This will make you smile, take a look at this lovely lady. Blanche was my grandmothers name.
Goodnight from Second Hand Ilona xxx
Nice finds for you and I know the stuff you brought in will find homes in which it is appreciated. Have a good night.
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of Blanches in our family...such a pretty name.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Did you you see the other number that Blanche did? Just as wonderful as the one you posted. Nothing wrong with going to the thrift shop leaves more money for all the fun things in life!
ReplyDeleteSo kind of you to think of the charity shop. And you got some good bargains too.
ReplyDeleteRosezeeta.
Blanche.....what a fabulous lady !
ReplyDeleteHello. Those are some very nice bargain priced items you found and very colourful.Glad you rescued perfectly good and useful things where they will find a new home at a charity shop. Our old neighbour actually called and arranged and paid for "waste removal"for items she didn't want any more. She said she didn't have the time and didn't want to fuss about waiting for a charity to come pick up the larger furniture. Some smart people helped themselves to smaller items they could manage but much still went to a landfill.Everything is disposable it seems. The video of Blanche was pretty cute, that's a lady who enjoys life, and a name you don't hear very often. We have a Gladys next door and she seems a cheerful one too.Thank you for sharing,D.
ReplyDeletegreat finds!
ReplyDeleteThe video was great!
ReplyDeleteI took a lot of bags and boxes to the charity shop. It would never occur to me to throw the things out instead of donating it...good for you for asking and donating it. I did go in and shop..got some wool clothes to cut up for hooked rugs....and some books to be read and then used for gifts or donated back....I am wearing mostly charity shop clothes everyday. Feels no different than expensive stor bought ones, I must say!
How thoughtful of you to rescue the saleable stuff and take it to the charity shop, that's karma, finding good things when you got there.
ReplyDeleteClothes, cats, house, boyfriend - everything I have belonged to someone else before me! x
Haha! The story of my life too. Even my dog was second hand. Debbie.
DeleteMQ I can't wait to see what you do with the flowery skirt. I hope you will share pics when you have refashioned it. Love the pattern. Its amazing what people throw away. Debbie
DeleteAll my clothes come from pre-owned/charity shops. Most of my household goods came from the charity shop, too.
ReplyDeleteFurniture in my home was once owned by someone else. Making good use of other people`s unwanted items does feel rather good, though. I`d only consider buying new if no other option was available. Mind you, the only new items in my home might be the electrical goods like blender, fridge, gas oven, and with those you would be much safer buying new.
Hi,great that you rescued stuff to take to charity shop. It's sad that everything is considered disposable, even when it's in perfect condition.I guess that's why the animal rescue centres are full to bursting.Makes you wonder what is happening to society when even beautiful, loyal animals are disposed of.Time the tide turned on out throw away society. As always, your positive attitude is a great example of how contentment and happiness do not come with material possesions, they can not be bought from a retail outlet!I think more, more, more is definatley less, less, less. Thanks for sharing.Off to walk my beautiful 'rescued' dog is the lovely sunshine now.I feel very rich!
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona, Haven't been commenting lately but have been reading your blog! That was a great idea to look through the stuff your neighbor was getting rid of. It's amazing what some people throw out, isn't it? Also, haven't commented on your new car. Congratulations and I'm sure you will drive to wonderful places in it. I also feel so ridiculous to complain about our income when you live on much less and live very well. You really should write a book on "How to live within your means". I bet it would be a best seller!
ReplyDeletevolunteered to accompany grandson's school chorus' event; found I needed 'uniform' so off to thrift store to locate appropriate white blouse. Got myself two tops, one spring sweater, one jacket (with embroidered collar too), and grandson one pair of school pants... and all cost far less than any one would cost in a regular store. A few months ago, I found piano music to "Second Hand Rose" in a thrift store; I love that song!! Just found your blog this week and have been enjoying reading. I am retired also, and enjoying this time. We have custody of our 6-year-old grandson, so this time of life is decidedly different than the one I imagined! But I am loving my life.
ReplyDeleteI'm a second hand Rose too. I like the red material. Natalie
ReplyDeleteI love the purple jacket.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of church rummage sales. One of my favorites is next week. Can't wait!
