Congrats to Amy.

Hello. Back again. I've just updated the Walking Group page with the figures you have given me, and guess what, we have someone who has broken the 1000 miles. So CONGRATULATIONS to Amy in Florida who is on 1070. She is doing a combination of walking, jogging, and cycling, so well done Amy. You can stop now if you want to, or carry on to the end of the year. It's up to you.

It doesn't matter how you get your exercise, or how many miles you have done, it's the getting up off your backside and taking part which is important. So well done to all those who are still soldiering on as we go into the eighth month. Stick with it people, you are all winning.

Catch you tomorrow,

  1. That's wonderful and thank you for saying that we are all winning. I can just about manage my two miles as day (with a badly arthritic foot) but I think that is better than not trying. JanF

  4. Well done everyone especially those who are facing challenges to do what others take for granted. There are so many good side effects and spin offs too. I have just given a set of friends a notebook and we are starting our own mini challenge. I am one of the band who took on your challenge and they have been staying so have been dragged out on walks with me.
Usually when I have visitors they go out and I stay behind cooking etc. This time has gone so much better. I feel more relaxed and meals have still been served! Thanks Illona.

    1. It pleases me to read that Sue. Good for you in getting others involved. I tried to get my friend here in the village involved, she had a health scare and was told to do some exercise. She came out with me twice, I showed her the route I take, then when I saw her a while later and asked if she had done any walking, she said no. Sadly you can't help some people.

  6. Ilona, off topic, but just heard on the radio from 1st September anyone watching bbc iplayer will be required to purchase a tv licence, currently £145.50, reduced for students, free to over 75s. This does not apply to itv etc (as obviously don't have licence fee). How they are going to search and catch people not stated but letters to be going out to non-licence households, non-compliance is a fine of £1,000. Thought you and other relevant readers should be aware. This hasn't been publicised so with a month to go it will be a shock to many. Amanda

    1. Hi. I am aware of that Amanda, it is on the Money Saving Expert site. Yes, they will write to everyone who doesn't currently have a licence, they will rely on frightening people to go out and buy one. Their shock tactics will work with some people who will buy a licence. With the millions of hand held devices out there, you tell me how they are going to police it, because I haven't a clue.

I won't buy one so I will stop watching BBC and wait and see how many people they are going to catch. Will be interesting. Plenty of other stuff to watch, yoootooob is great, other channels are ok to watch.

  7. You can watch a lot of BBC tv programmes/radio programmes on YouTube - often very quickly put up so you don't feel like you're watching/listening to old stuff. Natalie

  8. Well done Amy!
Thanks for keeping us motivated, Ilona. I was able to walk 99 miles in July.
August has been very rainy, but I'll keep with it.
    Best wishes!
