Hello and Good Morning on this murky start to the day in North Lincolnshire. Seems Autumn is well and truly with us now so my daily walk will be dependent on how the weather is panning out. I walk Bailey poodle four mornings a week, soon to be three when Jane starts on Monday next week, but I don't count this in my challenge, because he spends a long time stopping and sniffing. Can't really call it walking.
So how have you been doing? We are nine months into the one year challenge, time flies when you are having fun, and I hope it is still fun for you. I like to watch my numbers go up, writing it on my calendar each day. At the moment my total stands at 938, I was hoping for a bit more, but I have missed some days when I have been doing other things. I am still ahead, after making my new challenge to walk 100 miles every month.
So let's see how everyone else is doing, time to bare all, the highs the lows. Have you had a good month, or a lousy one? Are you jumping up and down with glee, or hiding under the duvet? Whatever your total is I hope you have been doing some walking.
This challenge is all about looking after yourself and feeling great. Whatever effort you put in you will reap the benefits. Put no effort in at all, and you will become grumpy and slide into decline. So, if you have two legs that work, even if you can only do short distances, just do it. Look at the amputees at the Invictus Games at the moment. Having no legs and arms doesn't hold them back. You've just got to admire their stamina and determination to succeed in their chosen sport.
Let's hear it from you then. This post is where you check in with your progress, shout it from the rooftops, be proud of your achievements. The Anonymous option is back for this, so no excuse not to comment. It's open to everyone.
Raining here, and time for breakfast, I've got some of that lovely fruit to enjoy. Have a good Sunday. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

768 kilometres in total for me.
ReplyDeleteSo happy and content with my walking habit and results.
Thanks to you, Ilona!
Cheers,
Jeanneke.
Early post today Ilona, its grey and rainy here too. Not cold though. My exercise is going well this year, better than it ever has been. I haven't joined in with the official walking group this year because I was still sorting out the house and studying for my masters in January. However I think I'm doing well. I thought of you yesterday as I went into Tesco later than usual last night and picked up three reduced avocados! Xxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks for allowing anon comments so we can check in. Best month so far with 121.5 miles - remotivated by cooler temps, autumn colours and exploring new paths locally. Total so far 813 miles, 12 lb weight loss and a noticable improvement in cardio fitness so all to the good. Odette
ReplyDeleteYou're making great progress, Odette. So pleased you are feeling the benefits.
DeleteHi Ilona, a bit more walking done this month, my total now stands at 848 miles, I'm pleased with that.
ReplyDeleteHazel Dxb
You're doing really well. Keep it up.
DeleteHello Ilona, greeting from sunny Spain. I´m checking-in for my husband Wences who walked 164 miles during September bringing his total to 1942 miles. (I made a mistake in his total last month) Everyone is doing so well. Good luck for October.
ReplyDeleteHello there. My walking this month is 45 miles. This is done dog walking and so it is I'm afraid, lots of stopping.I do think it is possibly more though because I do double back quite a lot chasing after them.It is a hilly walk and I do get out of breathe and consciously nip up and down the slopes which I think is beneficial for me.Also going out walking I meet such interesting people, who I don't think I would talk to stuck indoors-today a lady who was an environmental artist ,and I saw some of it.I luv walking x
ReplyDeleteHi there. My miles this month are 167. Giving me a total or 1350 for the year so far. Mow the weather us cooler I'm hoping to up it a bit this month. Amanda in Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Amanda, you are going for the record. Well done.
Delete79 this month had a few days off not feeling to well 692 miles so far.think i should still make the 1000 though .You had nice weather yesterday rained all day here and windy still made my 3 miles good luck everyone Kath
ReplyDelete90 miles for me this month, making a total for the year so far of 630. A little behind target to make 1000 in 2017, but after a few episodes of ill health and plantar fasciitis I am very pleased to have managed this much! You inspire me so much Ilona, and I'm very grateful that you organise this challenge as I'm not sure I would have carried on without it! I enjoy reading how everyone is doing each month - even though some totals put mine to shame! Keep on walking everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am pleased with your miles, keep it up.
DeleteHi Ilona 99 miles for me bringing my total to 782 miles, thanks for a great blog and content...especially the underwear pics! lolol.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, cheeky, ha ha.
Delete126 miles, hurra! When I am on holiday, I always walk much more than at home. I guess it is just more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Hilde. I think there's more time too.
DeleteWe are away soon so I hope to boost our total which has dropped below our personal aim over the last two months.
I'm not a member of your official walking group but am an active person, and depending on my health, more active some days than others. I go to the gym and go swimming. When I go walking for the day, I don't keep track of how many miles I do, or set myself a goal. Some days I will walk for three hours, on long days out I can walk for 8 hours. My pace is most likely not as brisk as yours, but I am pleased with myself that I still have the stamina to last that length of time. My achievement is to get to the places I want and see what I want, so I don't count miles, just my stamina on that day. Looking forward to my next coastal walk hopefully soon, weather permitting. By the way, my husband accompanies me on the walks and when we go to the gym. For many years he was a frequent marathon runner, doing several a year, (not me!). Now he still pops out for a short run sometimes, and I used to cycle with him while he ran.
ReplyDeleteNow I must go and see if I can work out how to set up a google account on this phone. If I can't then that will be it until the next time I can sneak in. Ha ha! Jean.
Same here Jean.I tried to get a Google account on my I pad 3times.It says that I have one but it didn't seem to work.It asked me would I like to open a new one,so I tried-nothing happened x
DeleteYou sound like a very fit couple, Jean. My sister goes swimming regularly, but you wouldn't get me in the water.
DeleteOur target this year is also 100 miles a month Ilona. It was set by one of our sons!
ReplyDeleteWe are short of that so far with our total being 848, 100 more than at the end of August.
Am no sure we can make up the missing 52 miles but we'll try.
We feel very pleased with the total we have though. Well done everyone on your individual totals. I love seeing how people and doing. Till the end of October, we are 3/4 of the way through this year. Sue
I haven't checked in for a while because I've been ill; have another surgery scheduled for this Wednesday and then when I get the all clear from my doctor I'm going to be back. It will be baby steps but even baby steps are better than nothing. Everyone is doing so well. Ilone, you are an inspiration to all of us.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your surgery, I hope it goes well for you.
DeleteAgain a poor walking total this month for me - only 48.25 miles making a grand total of just over 639. I am still keeping going and am determined to improve this month! Vicki
ReplyDeleteThat's still a good number, Vicki.
DeleteHi Ilona. I lost my user name when my computer was upgraded and I am unable to get it back or get a new account (don't know why). I just wanted to take this small window of opportunity to say thank you for all the help you have given me (and no doubt others) since I discovered your blog. I so look forward to reading your posts. You are an inspiration to all. Because of you and your encouraging words, I have been walking for the past month. Before then, I was hiding in my house, too afraid to go out and the tablets were not helping. I am not taking tablets now and I am actually talking to people I meet on my walks. Life is getting so much better for me. Thank you x
ReplyDeleteWhat you said ,has made me a bit tearful, because I could easily stay indoors and become a bit of a recluse as I can let problems overwhelm me.Insisting that I brush myself down, get outside walking is a medicine for me.Ilona is a great help each day for me and her bloggerettes ,and of course my darling doggies.Keep on walking ,I'll think of you x
DeleteHello flis. Thank you for understanding. I have been so sad and lonely for such a very long time. Every day I have read Ilona's posts and gained a little more strength from these. I used to be so strong mentally and also very happy, but my losses along the way, including the death of my babies (doggies) were too great to bear. I will continue to walk every day and I will also think of you. xx P.S. I will not be able to reply to any posts from anyone after today because I cannot seem to open an account so please do not think I am being rude by not replying.
DeleteHi,I've just switched on to Ilonas blog as she helps me too.My doggies are still sleeping and I'm going to yoga shortly. The yoga class helps me relax and slow my breathing.I find, that when I feel sad I force myself to smile ,however false and stride forwards and go out and walk. There is almost always something to lift my spirit.I will continue to meet yourself and our other friends at Ilonas .Keep walking ,there are a lot of us who understand x
DeleteKeep on walking ladies. You are doing so well.
DeleteFor September - 80 miles. Went to the doctors about two weeks ago because I'd had a very high blood pressure reading when I'd had some hospital treatment and it was recommended that I visit my doctor after discharge to see how my blood pressure was. It was good! Had to go again to see if it was ok on another another occasion. The nurse said it was not only good but very good. So pleased - all that walking has had a really good effect. Natalie
ReplyDeleteGood news, Natalie. Walking is good for the body in so many ways.
DeleteHi Ilona,
ReplyDeleteI havn't checked in with your group before but I am tracking my mileage. I record all "boots on" intentional walking. September was a poor month but I'm still on 763 for the year.
I'm challenging myself to walk 100 miles in October. I find shorter challenges like this keep me motivated, and it's only 3.5 miles a day.
Great to see so many others joining in.
However many or few miles you manage, you are still lapping those on the couch, and investing in your well being.
Jacquie x
Great stuff, Jacquie. You can do the challenge which ever way suits you. Three miles a day is not very much at all.
DeleteOn a roll now, 124 miles this month, total 921 - thrilled to bits and have lost weight - 10kgs. Only walking and eating sensibly - feeling good.
ReplyDeleteYou've cracked it, alice. A routine which is doing you good, keep at it.
DeleteHi Ilona. I've only managed 50 miles this month x
ReplyDeleteBetter that nowt, at least you got off your bum and did it.
DeleteHi Ilona, having trouble posting. Year to date miles 823. Thanks. Hilogene in Az
ReplyDeleteHi Hilly, you are doing so well. I'm proud of you.
DeleteI’ve done 60 this month which is my highest so far. Oddly I am more motivated in the autumn/winter when I need to exercise to help my SAD. The walking definitely improves my mood and energises me for the day. I’m wondering how so many of you cover so many miles as I do find it time consuming and never seem to have enough hours in the day for all the things I want or need to do. Perhaps I am badly organised!!
ReplyDeleteAgree Kate, I find daily walking is essential as the daylight hours shorten, otherwise my mood just sinks. I've also wondered at some of the mileages, I'm quite a slow walker so it is time consuming to get even 3 or 4 miles in each day. I find it works if I prioritise it above all my other commitments and I usually 'get it out of the way' first thing, before I get involved in other activities that suck my time and energy. Odette
DeleteHi Kate. My three miles takes me 50 mins, I walk as fast as I can. Try and build it into your routine. Add it to the top of the list instead of the bottom. Give it priority. Skip the housework.
DeleteThanks Ilona and Odette. It takes me about 1hr 15 to do 3 miles at the moment. I can’t walk every day as I get too much pain in my right hip which is frustrating. But will carry on and do the best I can.
DeleteHi Ilona. Found your blog about a month ago, and enjoy it very much. Have a few questions. As the weather here in Wisconsin isn't always conducive to outdoor activities, does using a home treadmill and / or exercise bike count for your walking club mileage? Also, will you continue to accept anonymous posts so folks like me can join? I am unable to get a google account or another blog access portal, whatever that means. Apparently my 2005 laptop may not support certain programs, according to a local computer shop. Thanks. Vera in Sheboygan
ReplyDeleteHello Vera. You can do your walking on a treadmill or bike if you like. It's up to you to monitor your progress, and you can report in here, on the first of every month. We keep this going all year so It's not something to have a go at for a week or two then get fed up.
DeleteAfter blocking Anonymous for a couple of days I find I am not getting as many spam comments as I was. I'm going to leave it open to everyone for a while and see how it goes.
Another 'sneaker-in' here! Well done on the walking folks, and well done on the YS bargains also!
ReplyDeleteHello, Ilona. It's raining here, too and it's getting colder. Autumn is here for sure. I managed 98 km during September so it brings my total to 848.I'm good.
ReplyDeleteVery good Helen, one of our top walkers.
DeleteMy mileage for September is 113 miles, total to date 1101. I made the 1000 miles hurray! Wonder if I can make it to 1,500 before the year end?
ReplyDeleteYES, YOU DID IT. Well done. Set your own targets, anything more is a bonus.
DeletePleased with my total of 121 for September. Thanks for doing this Ilona, its a great motivator.
ReplyDeleteHi all
ReplyDeleteMonthly total 93 miles and running total 748 miles , miles boosted by the Glasgow half marathon yesterday .
Well done everyone, thanks Ilona for this xxx
Well done for completing the half marathon.
DeleteI did 142, thanks to your inspiration, Ilona. Missed last month's check-in though because we were on holiday for a fortnight and I kept forgetting to reset my miles app!
ReplyDeleteI walked 74.3 in September for a total of 594.8 year to date.
ReplyDeleteMargaret in Maryland
Good Morning Ilona, I think this month's total represents a slowdown for me but it was also a month of dealing with my eldest sister and her very sick husband. So I spent lots of time in the car as they are 1 hr 15 min drive away from me. This will continue as I will want to be of assistance while I can. On the other hand I must find more time to walk for my well being too. So a renewed commitment to do that! September miles = 63 + total for year of 868.62 = 931.62
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sonja in NC
hi ilona, septembers total is 83.5 those half miles add up! Total this year is 796.5 I think I am going to pass the grand mark by the end of the year, chuffed to bits.
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona and everyone,
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to join in with your walking group for the rest of the year if that's ok. I saw your sign up at the beginning of the year but was daunted by it and didn't think I would be able to keep up at that time and I didn't want to join and not participate properly.
However I've improved things since then though and feel confident that I can keep up with you all now. I got a Garmin for my birthday in June and have been doing more walking since then, then last month I kicked it up a notch and participated in an activity called Steptember. It's aim is to do 10,000 steps a day for 28 days in September, it's also a fundraising activity for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. It was great and I walked 213.3km (I'm in Australia and so think metric, the internet tells me I walked 132.5 miles) and I raised more than $700.
So if it's ok, I'd like to challenge myself to 4 months worth of walking for the remainder of 2017, which would be 333miles/535.9km. I really want to keep walking.
Thanks,
Louise in Australia
My total for September is 112 miles. Our weather is warming up and I can't wait for longer walks on the beach.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Michele from Australia
