Hello, it's the first of June. Five months have passed since we started this challenge to walk more, to set targets, and to get ourselves fit and healthy. My target is 1000 miles for the year, yours may be different, whatever it is are you keeping up with it?
I am on 431 miles, which is on target. My next number is 500 miles at the end of June. There will be no letting up, I get out almost every day. In fact if I miss a day I feel like I have cheated.
This is where you check in with your miles, howzit going for you. Let's all support each other, words of encouragement please.

I'll post again later today for those not in the walking group.

Hi all. I totalled 449 miles last month and am now 535 miles. Walking has made my core stronger and my backpain has decreased a lot. Keep going everyone. Brilliant encouragement Ilona. Thank you as always
ReplyDeleteBloomin fantastic Alice. Proof that walking works. Well done.
Deletewow, i hadn't thought about walking as a way of improving core strength. thanks for telling me!
DeleteHi Ilona and fellow walkers, in May I walked 142 kilometers, total so far is 460. On my bike the score for last month is 143 kilometers.
ReplyDeleteCheers from sunny Dokkum in The Netherlands.
Jeanneke.
I like your ethos, pedaling and walking, the best of both worlds.
DeleteDuring May I walked 70 miles, better than last month. Looking forward to increasing that number for the month of June, well done to all. Patricia in Canada.
ReplyDeleteWell done Patricia. Flaming June is going to be brilliant.
DeleteHi Ilona and the walking group,93 miles in may bringing my total to 428 miles. Lovely weather now so lets go for it!
ReplyDeleteI like that fighting talk, 'just go for it'. Great mileage Ray.
DeleteHi Ilona and fellow walkers
ReplyDeleteI managed just under 106 miles in May, making a total so far this year of a tad shy of 453 miles. Looking forward to how everyone else is progressing. Any tips for maintaining motivation, apart from reading this blog, of course! Thanks as always, Ilona-it definitely helps knowing I need to sign in here every month. Vicki

DeleteMy reply to Vick1EY's comment was very long, so I have deleted it here, and published it as a new post.
Delete88 this month making 467 so still on track.loving the trucking stories what a great time you seem to of had.My husband was a trucker hope he wasn't 1 of the rude ones you met lol
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, Kath. Fantastic miles. Not many to go to the 500 halfway mark.
Delete87 miles in May, so 478 miles in total until now. I finally took my summer clothes out of store, and when I tried them on, they were actually a bit loose!
ReplyDeleteYou have discovered one of the benefits of regular exercise, your clothes fit better. Fantastic miles, at this rate your're going to do more than 1000.
DeleteHi, just curious, how do evaluate how many miles you have walked? Do you "just know" how far you have gone via signs? Do you count steps? Have a pedometer? etc...
ReplyDeleteWhen I walk around my village I walk the same route, either 2 or 3 miles. I have measured this on www.bikehike.co.uk I get the map on the screen, zoom in to OS size, click on the start point and click along the route, it adds it up automatically.
DeleteWhen I walk in a new area I use a paper OS map and mark the route I have walked with a marker pen, and use the web site when I get back home to calculate the miles. I don't count every step, I don't count the distance if I am sightseeing, or shopping. My miles are probably more than I actually record for this challenge. If I have done a considerable amount of walking and it's almost impossible to know how far, I use time as a guide. On a brisk walk most people walk at 3 miles per hour. For instance, when I deliver newsletters I am in and out of gardens, up and down streets, crossing and crisscrossing, so I work out how long I have been on my feet and make a calculated guess, then knock a bit off because I have been stopping and starting, and talking to people. If I do four hours of deliveries that is not 12 miles, more like 6.
Thank you.
DeleteI use the online AAroute planner; might not get exactly the same route but close enough in the mileage count.
DeleteHi folks! Well I am over the moon to report that I have my biggest monthly total to date: 45.7miles. this brings my total for year to 117.7miles woohoo! I set myself a different challenge, a dozen days of declutter in May, aiming to take one bag for 12 days to charity shops; as I have no car, this was my motivation for walking, delivering the bags to different charity shops, walking different routes approx 2-3.5 miles each time. I managed 11 bags/deliveries. Am planning to do similar in June. Have really enjoyed it! Keep going all!!
ReplyDeleteHello. I've done 97 miles in May (total to date 465 miles). Longer evenings are helping and I'm often pounding the pavements at 9pm. Keep going everyone.
ReplyDelete81 mls for may total 369. Hoping to catch up a bit but concentrating on getting out each day.Well done everyone! We don't get snow in our winter, just cold wind and rain, but after a dry summer we can't complain
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Ilona,
ReplyDeleteI tried a new method to see if I could post, don’t think it worked. I will show up as Hilogene in Az on your blog, if you see the comment. If not, here are my updates.
Hello Ilona and other happy walking group members,
Beautiful weather here in the desert southwest of the US. Much milder than normal, not even up to 90, and even some days in the mid 70’s! Walked 86 miles in May, for a year to date total of 398.
Hi it’s Sonja from NC. Wow I have tried twice before to post but no luck in having it go so if this makes it through will send my totals for May. Thx
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteHello it’s Sonja from NC. Report for May & totals are
Walking May 2019 is 130
Total 5 months is 568
Love the accountability & thank you for hosting our group, thanks again!
Sorry for the late check-in. My goal is 1000 steps/day. May total is 32001/31000, which is okay. But I actually walked 1000 steps on only 13/31 days. Not so good. Ilona, your post about motivation came at a perfect time for me. Thanks! Sedgwick
ReplyDeleteA very late check in as we've been away.
ReplyDeleteOur mileage for May was 93 miles bringing our year's total to 484 miles.
Have struggled this month because I have sciatica in one leg but am persevering despite it because exercise is supposed to help.
Sue
Sorry I'm very late checking in, I did 73 in May, very pleased as this is my highest monthly total to date and my personal target is 50.
