Good morning. It's looking good outside. Oscar was in overnight, I let him out at 7am, now he wants to come back in for his breakfast.
It's check in day for the International Walking Group. How have you all been doing? I got a six mile walk in yesterday to take me to 86 miles for the first month, so I'm pleased with that. I have some pics to post later. Now we have a shorter month coming up, so a bit more effort is needed to keep on target.
Now it's your turn to check in with your miles. Let us know what your target is if you have set it differently to the 1000 miles. Are you going to do the same as last year, or do a bit more, or less. I shall stick to the same plan, it fits in with the other things I am doing. Three miles a day suits me. Sometimes more, sometimes less, as long as I hit the monthly targets of 84 miles.
Now I am going to do some washing and get it out on the line, while the sun is shining. Catch ya later. Toodle pip. ilona
Hello Ilona, I had a very bad fall with my bike, due to frozen street, on 9 january I am still recovering from, staying with my daughter and her family, over in Nunspeet.
ReplyDeleteAll I can tell about walking in January is I reached the total of 52 kilometers on January 8.
Started walking again two days ago, just a ten minutes walk around the block. So, how little though, I am back on track again :>)
Take care, stay safe and many greetings to you and my fellow walkers!
Jeanneke.
Ooh sounds nasty.. take it easy and hope you recover soon, gillian
DeleteSorry to hear of your mishap, Jeanneke. Painful. Gently does it, slow steps to build your strength up again.
DeleteGood morning Ilona and fellow walkers, just over 118 miles for me in January in spite of the weather so am quite pleased with that total and the ££ I have already saved for treats later in the year! Just got back from a longer than usual walk as tomorrow is forecast to be wall to wall sleet, rain or possibly snow. Good luck for February everyone! Vicki
ReplyDeleteYou lead the way, Vicki, I'll follow you.
DeleteHello Ilona dear Oscar looks adorable and funny sat waiting for his mum to fetch him in.hes a real handsome chap.i watched an old post that popped up on my screen last night it was you showing your home made summer house how lovley it looks you are very talented.maisie the cat was relaxing in the sun too the cats are very lucky they found youx
ReplyDeleteOscar was out last night. He is now snoozing on the sofa.
DeleteGood morning folks! Glad to see the back of January.. managed a few days of walks and thought i was on a roll but then the snow, slush and black ice set in. So a measly 20 miles completed... a bit disappointed but at least i did manage to get out a few days. Now we have torrential rain & sleet which has been non-stop for days. Forecast is ok for later so i may get out at last. Anyone else getting frustrated with the weather?!
ReplyDeleteThe weather is a pain at the moment. Let's hope for better times.
DeletePS: Oscar is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon! Well, I only managed 26.5 miles but it's a start and am happy with that as the weather has been truly awful. Weather permitting, I would like to aim for 40 miles next month. Yes, Thrifty Towers, REALLY frustrated with the weather! Keep safe and well, everyone.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to start somewhere. You can always nudge it up month by month.
DeleteHi Ilona,
ReplyDeleteIf this post doesn’t work, I will email you. January walking was 54 miles! I want to keep the 1000 mile goal, my plan is to increase to three miles a day starting this month. Happy February! Hilogene in Az.
I hear you loud and clear, Hilly. You're off to a good start.
DeleteI have just added mine up from writing the total of each walk on the calendar as I come in the door..only 43 miles but the snow and ice was against me for a few days.Never mind though because I have got every intention of beating that in Feb.xx
ReplyDeleteThat's the way. Write the numbers down and watch them grow. You can do it.
DeleteMy January total is 106, and I'm hoping to exceed my 2020 total. Last January I only walked 47 miles so I'm off to a good start.
ReplyDeleteSheila in Idaho
You're off to a brilliant start. Fantastic.
DeleteFirst month walking the challenge and did 63 miles. Walking daily is my 70th year challenge to myself.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Francine, and welcome. I look forward to seeing your numbers on the 1st of March.
DeleteJanuary was a cold month so didn't get nearly as much walking as I had hoped - 78 miles for the month. That's more than last January though. I started an exercise program a couple of weeks ago so after my walk I do 30 minutes of exercises in hopes of building bones. I had a bone density test and found my osteoporosis is getting a little worse.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing how everyone is doing.
Kay
Still good Kay. Looking after yourself is the key.
Delete89.8 muddy miles in Whatcom County, WA. Thank you for your inspiration. Lorraine
ReplyDeleteHi Lorraine. Yes, there is mud everywhere here. Not pleasant at all. Try some tarmac walking if you can.
DeleteI managed to get in 106 miles in January, which is WAY more than I thought I would as I slowly build back up to my usual activity levels!
ReplyDeleteWow Allison, that's super amazing. Don't burn yourself out too soon. Find a level that you are comfortable with to carry you through the whole year.
DeleteHello Ilona,
ReplyDeleteI have read and enjoyed your blog for years, and when I first came across it I backread from the beginning so I feel like you are an old friend even though I have never commented before! I´m taking up your walking challenge although my target will have to be modest. I live in Brazil where covid is rampant and vaccination far distant so I am shielding in my 8th floor flat, although I go once round the block most days with my dog. A circuit of my flat is 75 steps, I try to do 4000 steps per day...total for January is 25 miles.
Hello Sansthing, our first member from Brazil. Eight floors up makes things a bit more challenging. Continue to take doggie a walk, it will do you both good. You could try using the stairs combined with the lift, starting with one floor at a time. Good luck.
DeleteHello Ilona,
ReplyDelete97,5 miles in the Netherlands. I am a bit like you, I do average 5 km a day, that is a little bit more than 3 miles.
That's a good start. Well done.
DeleteFor the first month of this challenge, I logged in 58 miles. My goal is to complete the 1,000 miles by year end. :)
ReplyDeleteGo for it Leslie. Look forward to your next report
DeleteHello everyone, from Southern California. This is my first time joining the challenge and my January total is 31 miles. I am aiming for 1000 miles but that might be a bit unrealistic for me this first time around. Most of my walking is done around the neighborhood which is hilly, so it is an aerobic experience as well. Being in the "elderly" age bracket, and mostly sedentary, it's necessary (and enjoyable though sometimes difficult) to be getting out and trying to get stronger and fitter. I'm very happy to be joining you!
ReplyDeleteAnd we are very happy to have you in our group. You could stop and have a little chat for a few minutes to catch your breath, when you meet someone you know
DeleteHi Ilona
ReplyDeleteI've done 78 miles in January. Missed a few days when it was heavy rain, but will catch up.
Walking and nature helps keep me happy. It's inspiring to be part of the international walking group:)
I don't go out in the rain, I wait till it stops, or double up the following day. Being outside is certainly a mood booster for me.
Delete39 miles walking and 204 miles on the stationary bike. You guys inspired me to exercise every day in January. WooHoo!!!
ReplyDeleteA great combination Kim. I like your enthusiasm for exercise.
DeleteHi Ilona, I hope I can still sign up for this. I've been trying to do it for the past few years! I had 56 miles for January, in spite of some snowy weather.
ReplyDeleteYes, you're in Jennifer, and off to a good start. Do what you can, weather permitting.
DeleteI've clocked up 70 miles, was held up by the snow and ice but overall not too bad
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Linda. The snow stopped me from going out yesterday. I don't want to break a leg.
DeleteClocked 175 miles :). Wasn’t expecting to walk as much in January but isince last March walking has become a habit! Here in Seattle the weather is much like home(UK) so I walk even when it rains just not as far :).
ReplyDeleteIt's a good habit to have, well done with the miles.
Delete90 miles in Jan, love being outside no matter the weather even though I feel the cold a lot. Thanks Ilona for all you do.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I set off and think why am I doing this, it's so cold. But then as I stride along my muscles loosen up and I start feeling warm. A good start for you, well done.
Delete197 kilometres which is 122 miles, more than I thought but the weather has been beautiful. Lisa NSW Australia
ReplyDeleteYou're making me jealous with your nice weather. It's looking gloomy here at the moment. Fantastic miles, good start.
DeleteHello Ilona.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to improve on last year's total which was750 miles.
We have walked with you from the start of your challenge 5 years ago and last year was
the worst total so far.
My aim is 1000 miles minimum.
In January we walked 91 miles though I was aiming for 100.
Never mind there's a long way to go.
Everyone is doing amazingly well.
Let's face it all your walkers have done more so far this year than many people do in a year.
We are so lucky to be fit enough to do so.
Good luck for February everyone.
Sue
Nice to see you back, Sue. Isn't it great that we have some new ones joining us. We need to cheer each other on.
DeleteHad a good start 116 miles. Forced myself out every day.
ReplyDeleteGood miles. I hope it wasn't too much of a chore, but sometimes you just have to make yourself. Keep it at the back of your mind that every step is doing you good.
