Brown cows and a deer sighting.

Good evening. It's been another sunny day. Warm and windy. Ideal conditions for walking. First I need to eat. Lunch was a mushroom and butter bean omelette. I really need to go shopping, I've hardly anything left in the fridge. It can wait, I'll leave it till tomorrow. First a walk.
I got the 14.58 bus, going in the opposite direction to yesterday. As I went through the gate to the footpath, there was a notice. Beware of the cows and their calves. The field is very steep on one side, going down to the waters edge on the other side. Luckily the cows were snoozing at the bottom and they didn't bother me.
In the next field there was a bigger herd of brown cows. They all started moving in the same direction. Following each other. Maybe it was milking time and they were off to the farm.

Nice views over the other side of the river.
I was ambling along enjoying the breeze when I noticed a deer looking at me. I stopped dead hoping to get a photo. They usually run away when they see you looking at them. A few seconds later it jumped over the top of that fence, which I thought was a bit dangerous. It has barbed wire along the top of it.

It was looking at me as it strolled away.

It carried on walking. Didn't seem scared at all.

I called in to see my friend June as I was passing through her village. Luckily she was in. We chatted for an hour, then I set off to come back.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. Enjoy your day. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. There's an old horsey saying, "jumps like a Stag" - the deer would have cleared this fence with ease, but a nasty obstacle with the barbed wire on top if it hadn't. Lovely views across the river there.

    1. There's something magical about seeing a single deer ambling around the fields. I can see lots of them in a herd if I go to Normanby Park. Nice but not the same. I don't know why they put barbed wire around open fields like that. If it doesn't stop deer, what's it for.
