Another one bites the dust.

Landlord Calls Time at North Lincolnshire Pub

A much-loved North Lincolnshire pub will close its doors for the final time tonight as its landlord hands back the keys amid rising costs.
Craig Goulden, licensee of The Butchers Arms in Winterton, has announced that the pub will cease trading on Friday 16th January, citing increasing overheads and financial pressures as the reason for the closure.

This has been a popular pub over the years. Well known for it's good food, and events held on the large car park at the back. Our Government, and previous Governments are hell bent on making small businesses almost impossible to run. Higher taxes and higher costs, mean increases have to be passed on to the customer. A lot of pubs will fall by the wayside. Maybe new blood will come along and turn it around. We shall see.

  1. One run down pub in town made attractive housing with good parking. The whole town shopping centre is being demolished as nobody wants to shop there.

  2. Pubs need to change/diversify. Drinking habits have changed due to health awareness/drink driving limits/home drinking habits/working patterns. Pubs need to figure out what their local area needs, it may not be the same old traditional pub. A pub in town may need to provide something totally different (e.g. breakfast, workers/OAP's lunch, market day specials, after work specials) to a country pub (e.g. doggy friendly, walkers and cyclist stops, maybe upmarket food at weekend's, community facilities, campervan facilities) All pubs need to provide a good range of non alcoholic drinks and have a decent coffee machine. Some are thinking outside the box and doing really well. I know it's sad to see pubs closing but if there is low demand and they are not a viable business, subsidising them is not the answer
