Ooooh, I've been on the tele.

Hello. Another busy day. Oh dear, my walking is getting neglected at the moment, but now I am famous there are many demands on my time, ha ha. It's a struggle to fit it all in. A chat on Radio Teeside this morning, getting the hang of these radio interviews now. Phone call comes through, person says hello, I'm putting you through to the studio. I listen to the current topic, or some music, the presenter comes on and introduces me. Jokey chat, questions, me firing up the brain in the hope of coming up with some light hearted banter. It usually works.
This afternoon journalist and photographer at the house, had to chuck them out when the taxi turned up to take me to Leeds. Here I am in the Calendar studio with the presenters. Now what were their names.....erm, I forgot. Spoken to that many people just lately, the names are going in one ear and out of the other. I thought this was going to go out live, but it was recorded. It went out about an hour later just after 6pm, after I had left the building. I haven't seen it, but Janet and Paul said it was quite good.
These are the cameras facing the desk. The green boxy type things are screens for the autocues.

I wasn't in there very long, and when I came out I was introduced the the weatherman who was watching his computer screens.

It was all over quite quickly. I had a chat to a lady who asked me the best time to go to Asda for the reductions. Then I was escorted back to the front door where I texted the taxi driver to come and get me. The traffic was horrendous getting out of Leeds, I'm glad I don't live in a city.

So here I am, job done. Not sure if I am doing any more media stuff tomorrow. There was something else for today but it was put back until tomorrow. Haven't had confirmation so I assume it's not going to happen. Now I see an email about something for Thursday. Ah well, tomorrow's another day, we shall see.

The wind is still howling outside, I think Jo has had a very tough day. Walking over that Peak District is hard at the best of times, never mind battling with a 50 mph wind. Come on Jo, you can do it.

Thanks for popping in, and all your brilliant comments. Page views hit 13,900 yesterday in the 24 hours from midnight to midnight. Chuffin amazing, an all time record. New people are coming to the blog, pleased to meet you, welcome.

My brain has shut down. Catch you tomorrow. Toodle pip.
Ooops, just remembered. I've had a phone call from the Shed of the Year people, asking questions.

  1. Oh goodness it is all happening. What fun! The same thing happened to my auntie who had a 'human interest' story for the local paper and it went all crazy like you described. I hope to see you on the telly, please (if you can) leave us links. So excited for you - hope you are not too tired. Enjoy and remember you ARE helping and inspiring people. Debbie

  5. Another one to chime in about leaving a link. I could't find the articles on you in the Mail; too much crap to filter through, just like everyone mentioned. (And, i did try.) It looks that you're having fun and enjoying yourself; good for you!!

  6. Wow you are quite the celebrity. Saw the article on the Daily Mail and remember you blogging about them coming to your home. You seem such a happy person and love life. More should read your blog before commenting about your life and choices. Cheryl

  8. Glad some of the mean-spirited comments on the Daily Mail site aren't getting to you. I'll bring my own teabag anytime...although asking the reporter to do so was a brilliant stroke of self-marketing.

    1. Yes, if you win that, you will definitely have "street cred."

Something I have discovered about frugality: when you aren't ready to hear it, you either won't hear it or you will say, "that's not for me." Some will make fun of the frugal person (as you know). But, something that seemed "too extreme" a year ago, might sound just right now. I hope that some of the doubters that find their way to your blog will stick around long enough to learn something.

  15. Hi Ilona
I didnt know you were going to be on t.v tonight, i will try and watch it on catch up if its on.
Yep i reckon you will have set a trend now for the yellow sticker hunts, we will all be fighting people off from now on. I hope today is a quieter day and you manage to catch your breath. I bet Rockys wondering whats happening with all these people in the house.
Hope Jo has a better day weather wise, like you say its hard going at the best of times but the wind and rain here yesterday was horrendous and im only in West Yorkshire so must be really bad on the hills in the peaks.
Wonder what will happen with the Shed of the Year people?? Hope your summerhouse wins a prize.
    take care, love jane

  18. May I just say you look beautiful in these pics, slim, fit and youthful. You inspire me so much. I don't feel up to walking 1000 miles in a year, although I am going to set myself a smaller goal. However your lifestyle, coupled with Jo Brand's determination have meant this is the year I really get walking!

  19. You sound like you're taking it all in your stride Ilona. As you said it will all soon die down so it's good you're enjoying your 15 minutes of fame now while you can. Jo Brand is amazing isn't she!

  24. Wow Ilona, I am privileged to be able to talk directly to such a famous person! Well done you. If there is some way to see your TV appearance it would be lovely. I read your DM pieces and thought it was hilarious, that they formed the whole thing around a tea bag. You are far, far more than that. Ann x

    1. Hi. I didn't have time to put make up on before I left home. I thought they might do it, but it wasn't important. They didn't offer it, everything happened quickly.

  30. Lovely photos, hopefully seeing how happy, fit and well you look some of the ridiculous comments about you living a 'squalid life of deprivation' might stop.

You look like you're enjoying it all and that's the main thing.

  31. Lovely photos of you, Ilona, looking so elegant and happy. So glad you are enjoying your fame. It was great to see you with Jo too. Well done. And good luck with Shed of the Year! Anne (Glos.)x

  32. All this great press and positive outpouring of goodwill couldn't happen to a nicer, more hard working person. In the long run you'll not only convert people to your frugal and healthy way of life, but you'll inadvertently help save our fragile planet along the way. Keep up the good work Ilona. As for the trolls out there, some people get nasty when they see others going along in life doing what's right for them and ignoring those that don't agree. Those with low self esteem will lash out to try to bring you down to their level (because 'misery loves company'). Haha - they haven't followed your blog and don't realize you stopped giving a rat's heinie about what other people think long ago. Onward and upward. D

  33. Loved you in that stripy top - the colour really suits you. When you get the chance can you share any links you may have to the newspaper article and your tv appearance. Glad you enjoyed your day out at the studio, even if it wasn't for very long. Good luck with the shed of the year as well :)

  35. Hello busy bee!You look really vibrant, fit and happy in the photos and your hair and sweater compliment that nicely.I am so glad for you,Ilona.Things might simmer down in a week or two,but then again, they may not, whatever happens I am confident you will manage well.I also was thinking of Jo and her walk while doing the same here in 60 K winds and rain yesterday. It is not so bad if protected by good layers for a short time but being hammered by it all day would be a trial.Best wishes to her!Good luck re:shed of the year...bye for now,D.
