Hello. Sorting fabric out today. I had a cushion and two pillows which my friend gave me, the plan was to turn the two pillows into four cushions by opening them up and dividing the filling. I decided I couldn't cope with feathers and down all over the place, so I left them as pillows, and made covers for all three of them. These I delivered to the church. Someone with a bigger bum might be more comfortable on a pillow ;-)
Some of the fabric is suitable for shopping bags, so I have been cutting them out today. It's not a priority to sew them just yet, but they will be ready later when I have time.I haven't got a free motion foot for my sewing ,machine yet, but I had a go without a foot. Not too bad, I think with a bit more practice I might get the hang of this.
Well back to the fabric sorting, some of it will make nice framed pictures. I need to get on with finishing some of my projects.
Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

Do you have a foot similar to this one?

I've also seen them with a spring like this on:

Looks like you have lots of projects ready to go. Have fun!
No I don't have a foot like that. I rang the sewing shop today in town, he will have a look to see if he has one when he goes in tomorrow.
DeleteThe fabric on the two larger pillows is lovely. It's got a bit of a 70's vibe, too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThe orange fabric used to be a curtain, bought from a charity shop for £1.
DeleteWow, impressive find!
DeleteI love those pillows - think selfishness would kick in with me and I’d keep them - they are gorgeous. The jury’s out on your free form ......not sure what it’s going to develop into.
ReplyDeleteHave you been reading about the KFC chicken crisis Ilona? I find it remarkable that a big company like them can be brought to a standstill due their new distribution system that turned into a shambles. I wondered if you had any anecdotes or similar stories from you trucking days?
ReplyDeleteI have read about it, I thought it was funny, who cares. People getting upset because fast food takeaways are closed. I would close them all, not just KFC. Nobody has to eat chicken, or pizzas, or Mac D's, or Burger Kings.
DeleteI am a DHL pensioner, I hope they don't go bust because I would like to keep on receiving my £20 a week.
What I think it showed is that going with a company that offers the best price isn't always going to give the best value.
DeleteColours are lovely!
ReplyDeleteFirst cane chair envy, now fabric envy, ha ha ! I do love a good fabric, and pondering on what I can do with it. Sometimes I have need of a fabric for a particular job and can't find what I want. I too love the oranges, yellows and browns of the 1970's. Jean.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, it's the thought processes which go into creating something, which appeals to me. The fabric speaks to me.
DeleteWe are due new pillows at home and I did wonder what i was going to do with the old ones. Now you have given me an idea!Ive got an old quilt cover that I was thinking of making a dress out of...but I really have enough of those!.So I am now going to cover my old pillows with this material and make new cushions for my wooden garden chairs.I was thinking of painting the chairs as they have been outside for the last 13 years but this will make them alot more comfy and save me buying paint for them.Debi,xx
ReplyDeleteA pillow doesn't have to be a pillow for life, it can be turned into a cushion. I do the envelope opening at the back, (no zip). My opening here is the length of the pillow because it was the only way I could get two covers out of the curtain. I could have put velcro on to hold it together, but I couldn't be bothered, they are only going to be on a church pew. It would be better to make the opening across the width.
DeleteWell,Ive got 9 pillows to cover so Ive realised that Im going to need more material. So this gives me an excuse to go through my wardrobes...and the huge piles of clothes at the bottom of them,lol...to see what i can recycle from an old item of clothing into a pillow cover.Im going to keep them as pillows and not cut them smaller,as the garden chairs are quite big.And no doubt, the cats will all claim a chair and pillow cause they love sitting out in the garden with us!.Im going to do as you suggest and make the opening across the width,Debi,xx
Deleteive managed without a free motion foot for years just with a bit of plastic popped over the bottom feeds , currently using a piece of the cats plastic food mat ..lol..she hasnt missed it
ReplyDeleteI guess you have an older machine where the feed dogs don't drop. Good idea with the plastic. I am beginning to think I don't need a foot.
DeleteMy great grandfather had the 6's no.plate too.Several years I was at an outdoor salsa evening in Dorset with my dogs-I had a picnic it rained & an eccentric local lady who was French shared my picnic as her partner forgot theirs-very odd.I sat in their Rolls it was very grand. We were friends for a while. She then moved to a chateau in France with her vizlas-or that's what she said x
ReplyDeleteI was browsing your blog Ilona and saw that silly me had sent you this post instead of Aril at Eccentric Ramblings Knat Bottom Towers x
