Hello. Thank you all for the feedback on yesterdays post. I shall keep on plugging the message that it's better to live within your means, and to save up rather than buy things on credit. We all have a duty to pass this message on to our children and grand children.
Another message I witter on about is that it's better to find things that are free rather than pay for them. Better to buy second hand than buy new. Better to recycle something that no one wants and give it a new life. Better to pass things on rather than dump them.
This is what I found today in a big commercial wheelie bin outside the Village Hall. Three plastic buckets, one of them brand new. Good find eh!. They will come in very handy in the garden.
However, I have spent some money today, but don't worry it was a bargain purchase. I've booked two nights in Haworth Youth Hostel at £10 a night, plus two breakfasts for £11. So a bargain break to look forward to.Crafty Club was busy this morning, one new member. I was a bit late so shoved a few things in my bag and rushed out. I am still cutting vinyl into flower and leaf shapes for the outdoor sculpture. Almost got enough now.
A quick mention. Some of my earlier videos are on a separate page, link just below the header. I haven't updated it for a long time because there are too many now.
That's all for now, no more news. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up later.

People seem to give me things that are useful or edible. I have given thousands of things away in my time and somehow the universe always repays me. Love me some free reusable things.
ReplyDeleteBuckets are so useful.
ReplyDeleteDo you still grow any veg?
Hi. No I stopped growing veg a couple of years ago, it was a constant battle with slugs, very time consuming. I can buy them very cheap anyway.
DeleteI love your attitude toward living within your means, so many people have no idea how to do that and they just get so deep in debt that it steals away their joy of life. My parents taught all of us children well and we have never had a big debt problem.
ReplyDeleteDear Husband and I didn't learn until we were in our 40s that living with debt is dumb. Now we're paying it off like . . . like we're ANGRY at it. Fortunately, our daughter was still at home and saw this transformation in our spending habits, and she and her husband are living smarter than we did in her early married life!
ReplyDeleteNice job finding the buckets. I like your "it's better than" list! I also think it's better to wear something out than to buy something new at the first loose thread/loose nut/loose joint. (Heehee, I mean furniture joint, not human joint!)
You don’t witter on !!! You have the guts and tenacity to make the videos and blogs to help us to lead lives without panicking over money.
ReplyDeleteYou also have some great ideas I hope you have a lovely break in the hostel.
Can't wait to read about your trip to Haworth. I spent a magical day there on my trip to the UK last year. In fact, my son's dog is wearing a very smart collar that I bought him in Haworth ... possibly the only dog in Sydney with a collar from Yorkshire!
ReplyDeleteHi. You don't have to wait any time at all to see my reports on Haworth, I have been there before.

DeleteLove getting a freebie! In our Family now,if we need anything,we always ask each other if they have got a ...spare one or one they dont use...anything from a reel of cotton to a sheet of sandpaper!Yesterday my Mam had gave me a bottle brush that I need to buy and she didnt need.So that saved me a pound!.Last week,me and my sister swopped 2 coats with each other cause we no longer wore them. This week my niece is clearing out some of her clothes,so 4 of us will have a sort through them so see if there is anything we want before it goes to the charity shop.Oh,and i found 2p on the floor down the park yesterday!,lol...Well the snow is coming down quite heavy today here in the Mids.So different to yesterday,so it looks like its a day of not going very far apart from a walk down my Mams.Take care if its snowing where you are,Debi,xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a great system you've got there.
DeleteI love your buckets!! and I've got a collection too - hauled from skips!! My neighbour thinks I'm mad cos they're so cheap to buy, but I love getting things for free if they're just going to be chucked. I seem also to be accumulating laundry baskets in same way; 3 at the latest count, currently being used for storage. Madness to throw these things away.
ReplyDeleteMy friend works as a cleaner. Where he works, if they have meetings, any food that is brought in, is thrown away at the end of the day - unopened cakes, cakes that are left totally untouched, sandwiches, drinks in cartons brand new that have not been opened. What madness! Needless to say, it is brought home to me or, if it is anything meaty, he passes it on to someone who can eat it and would be grateful of it. Natalie
ReplyDeleteglad you have a break in the pipe line hope it warms up a bit for you tessa
ReplyDeleteI found a black workman's bucket a few years ago blown outside my house & I kept it.Also a mattress in my front garden another time which I didn't x
ReplyDeleteI have a bucket list too. Hugs from Barbara (Canada)
ReplyDeleteAll the lightweight rubbish blows into our garden for the little cluster of houses we live in after a storm its like a lucky dip , yesterday it was up to the local abandoned airfield to get buckets of gravel and rocks to fill in the big holes in the grass verge outside made by thoughtless tits wheel spinning their vehicles off it ...knew the buckets would come in for something
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona, I hope you have another good trip to lovely lovely Haworth....it's where I grew up so I am a bit biased :0)
ReplyDeleteI'm reading your blog from the beginning and loving seeing all the places you have walked. I really must do Malham Cove this year.
I just wondered if you have been to Wycoller? It's a short and beautiful drive from Haworth, through Stanbury and over the moors. I'm sure you can find lots of info and walks on the web. It's a pretty spot we used to love paddling in the stream there as children.
