Breakfast mini rant

Watching the hard working bin men outside in the street this morning while eating my breakfast,  prompted this video. Trying not to rant.

It's nice not to have to go to work. ilona

  1. Totally agree...many " men in suits" are completely over valued...often deciding THEMSELVES how much they get......

  2. Don't start me off about the 'greedy bankers' and the 'so-called celebrities' and how much they get paid; I'm not jealous it's just that I feel the surgeons; nurses; ambulance folk; police; shopworkers; factory workers; small businesses etc etc should be better paid. To me, a footballer for example, kicking a ball about on a piece of grass is totally overpaid. I understand that there is a new series of 'Celebrity Big Brother'going to be aired shortly - I won't be watching, firstly I won't know most of who these 'celebrities' are and secondly I couldn't give a fig about their lives as they usually have very little in common with me and my lifestyle. I'm not interested in 'Hello' magazines and their ilk as I don't want their sort of life (always trying to keep up with the Jones' attitude), no thanks, and to round off I also believe that the 'celebrity' Katie Price aka Jordan is filing for bankruptcy so where did all that 'nonsense' lifestyle get her? I feel sorry for her children and dependants though.

  5. I think the question of 'how much is someone worth' can be answered with 'whatever someone's willing to pay'. I wouldn't blame a footballer for kicking a ball around for millions of pounds - I think if most people had the choice they would do the same! Blame society. If nobody watched celebrity big brother then the TV company wouldn't pay people to appear.

  6. We have huge wealth inequality in this country, and I think it's only going to get worse. AT the last election it was Corbyn who was trying to address this and made it clear that he wanted the highest earners to pay a lot more tax, which would then benefit the whole of society. If people are going to dismiss that sort of thinking as loony left Marxism then they can't complain if we're left with the status quo.

  7. I agree entirely with what you said Ilona, and I think it is so very unfair and not right.

Another thing that annoys me is the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Usually they are from the higher end of the scale who have had say, a lifetime in entertainment or sport, business or whatever and have received a great amount of money for their 'talents' and achievements. They were doing exactly what they wanted for THEMSELVES and have been amply rewarded for it. Every time the list comes out I am disgusted by who is going to receive a knighthood. The Honours List should primarily go to those who are working to benefit people less fortunate.

You've got my dander up now!

  8. I totally agree, society would grin to a halt without normal working folk. Celebrities we could live without.

  9. Celebrities and footballers are definitely overpaid, and manual workers are definitely underpaid. I wouldn't put down office workers / number jugglers as overpaid or useless as its worth considering that they will be contributing to a service or products that will be sold nationally but more importantly globally that will feed in money via profits and taxes into our economy, that then pays for these public services. Without these people, the country wouldn't be making money to fund your heros.

I am in favour of improving income equality, particularly to be more in line with how Norway works. Its terrible that our nurses and teachers are visiting food banks, while our politicians and bankers sip champagne and by second houses.

  12. Totally agree Ilona! I was incensed recently to learn how much tv presenters are paid for reading out the news or hosting chat shows, I couldn’t care less if I never saw most of them!!

  14. Yes-it's ridiculous. It's all a load of nonsense.Someone gave me a pile of celebrity type magazines-I looked through a few & was bored with the rubbish.Even if I ever won a fortune I would not aspire to have a life such as theirs x

  15. Celebrities are made and perpetuated by the media,be it magazine, tv or newspaper. I watched I'm a celebrity and there was a well groomed lad in his mid twenties on there from "Essex who couldn't tie his own shoes or tell the time. A pretty girl off the soaps who had NEVER washed or brushed her own hair or applied her own make up. These two are still celebrated and cosseted, well paid because of the media.
The world has gone mad. Don't get me started on footballers, or the fat cat high end financiers.........

  17. Zero hour contracts are another scourge. How on earth can you plan your life if you don't know from one day to the next whether you will be working?

There's a great deal of crowing about low unemployment but we need to take a long, hard look at how low paid and insecure millions of these new jobs are.
