Hiya my little bloggerettes. This is check in day for the whole of 2019. How far have you walked in the last twelve months? You already know what my total is, now lets hear about yours.
Have we any new members starting? Don't let the figures put you off, break it down to 2.74 miles a day, or 84 miles a month. I write my miles down on my desk top calendar. I have two routes of 2 and 3 miles which I have already checked on bikehike.co.uk. I go back to that web site if I want to check any new routes I have walked. It did stop working for me for a while, but it seems to have sorted itself out now so I am still using it. You can use any method you like to check your miles. Do it any way which is best for you.
Here is a bit of motivation to get you going. Don't think of it as a New year Resolution, it is a challenge for the whole year. Watch how these people benefited from it.
Now it's up to you. Let's hear about your progress from last year, and if you are in it for another year. Don't forget, you are making the commitment for yourself, no one else. Doubts will creep into your mind, you will wonder what you have taken on, it's like getting on a merry go round which won't stop. If you fall off, get back on again.
Happy 2020 to everyone. Thank you for your comments yesterday, it's great to hear from you.

Hi Ilona,
ReplyDeleteHere is my year end total. Happy to say it was a good year, more miles than last year, and it is a great thing to have time every day to myself for a good reason. Thank you again for starting this group!
Final year end total. 792 Miles

Amazing and fantastic. Be proud of yourself.

DeleteGood morning, Ilona. I'm going to check in for the first time. Here in Catalonia we use kilometers, we don't use miles. It's 1, 600 kilometers. I hope To do them. I walk to work and on weekends my husband and I like to walk a lot. We will be in touch to see the progress, I am very excited. A hug.
Hola. Es genial que te unas a nosotros. Esperamos con ansias saber sobre su progreso.
DeleteHi Ilona, thanks for your year-round inspiration and support and may 2020 keep us happily walking on track again. I will be walking with you, for the fourth year. Can not and will not do without my daily walks anymore. My total for 2019 is 1126 kilometers.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Jeanneke.
Your total is fantastic. So pleased that you are staying with it for another year.
DeleteHi Ilona. Happy New Year. I completely lost track of my total last year but am planning on writing it down every evening this year. I am setting myself a realistic goal of 1000km rather than miles. My ongoing leg problem means that I can't walk as far as I would like to.
ReplyDeleteYou had other things going on in your life, Cherie. I hope your leg improves through the year. You can only do what you can.
DeleteI also lost track of my total last year but i'm back and ready to get started again.
ReplyDeleteHazel
Cheering you on, Hazel. No time like the present to start again.
DeleteHappy New Year fellow-walkers! (It feels good to include myself in that group!) I am very happy to report that despite my recent accident and injuries, I have tipped the 300mile-mark - not quite my target but I plead innocent my laud.. getting back on my feet is my only goal just now.. 12.4 miles completed in december which brings my total to 307.2miles - woohoo!
ReplyDeleteTHX so much one & all; I love my walks and as well as feeling fitter - with the exception of my broken wrist of course - I have discovered a new enthusiasm for being outside. Even tho I have lived in same city all my life, i have found parks that I've not been in before and streets that I didn't know existed. There's nearly always people to say hi to in passing, and I love watching the dogs run full-out chasing toys in my local park. It's fun!
My target for this year will be 375miles. I use the AA online route planner to measure and track. My target for January is 12 miles, hopefully building up from 0 to 1.5miles.
Wishing you all the healthiest of 2020 - keep on moving!
Thank you for your useful information. New places to walk near to your home, can be found, as you have proved.
DeleteHappy New Year Ilona.
ReplyDeleteI have been for a walk today and am going to really try and do a little each day. I think it was about 1 1/2 mile so am happy.
Enjoy your day..

You are happy, and I am happy, to know you are doing things at your own pace.
DeleteHi Ilona, have held off until today - cos its the first of the month, the year, the decade, and my OCD made me wait :). I'd like to join please. First walk today - 5.61km - my fitbit does it in km so I'll stick with that. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, nice to see you. Yes, please do join in. Next check in is on the 1st of February. Good luck.
DeleteBonjour Ilona, belle année 2020 joie et santé pour vous! Vous m'avez épaté quel courage; Avec vos 1000 Miles par an ! je vais essayer d'en faire autant...Merci pour votre blog. Michelle

DeleteHello Ilona, beautiful year 2020 joy and health for you! You #39 have amazed me with what courage; With your 1000 miles a year! I'm going to try to #39 do the same... Thanks for your blog.
Welcome Michelle. Great to have you along on the walking challenge. Check in on the 1st of every month with your miles/kms.
DeleteBienvenue Michelle. Super de vous avoir le long sur le défi de marche. Enregistrez-vous le 1er de chaque mois avec vos miles/kms.
A new reader here (from Idaho, USA) and eager to join the challenge. Although I'm a walker, I've been feeling a bit unmotivated and a challenge always seems to get me going. Thanks for sparking my motivation!
ReplyDeleteHello Sheila. Stick with us, get up and go out, and you'll be feeling much fitter when you get some serious miles under your belt.
DeleteHi Ilona my total for 2019 is 1022 miles, please count me in again for 2020, look forward to following your blog in 2020,all the best.x
ReplyDeleteRay, you are a star. Well done, fantastic result.
DeleteHi Ilona and friends. I had a few health problems continuing into 2019 and haven't been able post every month. My years total is 514 miles. I can do better in 2020!
ReplyDeleteYour total is fine. Thank you for joining us in 2020
DeleteSo glad to start over! I was doing pretty well with my goal of 1000 steps/day until I had an eye injury and eye surgery and broke both ankles. I have to laugh, otherwise I'd cry. Ilona, I said before that getting older is A-OK, and it is, but then there are times like last summer through fall. Oh, well, I've got permission to start walking again, as long as it's indoors. I'll take the steps wherever I can get them and aim again for 1000 steps a day, or 31000 steps in January. I do love that you show us pictures of where you walk, and also that this is a really international group. As long as I can limp along with everyone else, I don't feel alone. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, do limp along with us. A little bit of progress is a whole lot better than just thinking about it.
DeleteHi Ilona: Best wishes for 2020. My total for 2019, is 666 miles, not as much as I hoped but looking forward to doing better in 2020. Well done to this who met their goals.
ReplyDeletePatricia in Canada
Hello Patricia. Fantastic numbers. Best foot forward and off we go again.
DeleteHappy New Year Ilona and fellow walkers! I beat my original 1000 mile total in November and so set myself the new target of 1106 miles which was my best mileage over the 4 years. I have just beaten that reaching 1110 miles on New Year's Eve. The sense of achievement and the healthy feeling after each walk is so satisfying so I will definitely be signing up again for 2020 - in fact I have already made a start in the sunshine today. Good luck everyone! Vicki in the East Riding
ReplyDeleteAmazing number, Vicki. Fantastic.
DeleteHappy New Year, Ilona!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading you off and on for a few months and have been inspired by you (and entertained), but have never commented.
NOW seems a great time to jump into your walking group.
I live with a housemate who rarely takes her dog for a walk (he goes in the backyard), so I am committing to taking him for a daily walk---we had our first one this morning and he was sooooo happy.
And so was I!
I'm not going to worry too much about the mileage--the main thing is to get the dog (and me) out for a walk--hopefully a nice long one, but even a short one is better than nothing.
Thanks for the invitation and the push...
Onward into 2020!
Welcome. I am so pleased that you have volunteered to walk the dog. Poor pooch never getting out, he will love you for doing this. All good for your own health and well being as well. We hope to hear from you on the 1st of February with your monthly report.
DeleteHappy New Year Ilona and everyone.I walk for one hour plus a day and fairly quickly as I have to supervise my dogs.I missed today's walk and I have found now I am sluggish and stiff and achy and a bit down- I will not miss tomorrow's walk as I am much happier when I do get out x
ReplyDeleteGood to know you are back again, Flis. Lucky doggies to have you.
DeleteHello, Ilona,I lost track of my miles this past year, as well. I'm joining you once again-a fresh year-always a good time for a fresh start. Thank you for your continued inspiration and encouragement! You are a marvel!! Here's to 2020!
ReplyDeleteI am always behind you, giving you a push, but it's up to you to decide how much you want to achieve. I will be cheering you along.
DeleteHappy New Year Ilona !
ReplyDeleteI can’t add to your blog as my comments disappear. The end of this year and this time I achieved the magic number 1018.5 miles in total . I m pleased as I missed it last year.
I’m having a rest from endless recording next year and turning my attention to swimming but I shall keep up the walking as I enjoy it. Take care and wishing you a good year ahead.
Jenette
I know exactly what you mean about recording your miles. It is a bit of a bind. I write my miles on the calendar in front of me as soon as I am back in after a walk. If I don't I will have forgotten how much I did. Enjoy your swimming.
DeleteHi Ilona, happy new year and thank you for your blog, I have been enjoying reading your posts for years and have summoned up the courage to comment and join the walking adventure. Kind regards Barbara
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Barbara. Will look forward to your report on Feb 1st.
DeleteDefinitely doing this challenge again this year. I love reading all your posts Ilona, and all the posts from fellow walkers. It seems that my exercise tracker has had a couple of meltdowns during the last few months and hasn't recorded any activity at all for a week here and there, but no mind, I know I have been more active lately when I can, so am not at all worried about meeting MY personal target of 1000 miles. Have clocked up 808 miles and I am happy with that. Wishing you and all the fellow walkers best wishes for this new year and keep up the good work. Joy.
ReplyDeleteJoy, that total is fantastic. You can also measure your walking by the time it takes you. One hour of brisk walking is three miles.
Deletehappy new year everyone. My miles for december are 99. That makes the total 969.5 by my reckoning. Pretty close, it is nice to have a target to aim for but it is the doing that is more important. Nice to read how much walking people are doing, especially with their dogs and how much that has made a difference to peoples lives. I am hoping to actually get over the 1000 this year, new decade awaits.
ReplyDeleteI seem to have forgotten to post my miles for November. But I have to admit that I was very lazy in December, so I missed the 1000 miles goal. I managed 971 miles only, but I will try again in 2020!
ReplyDeleteIlona, thank you for motivating me - not only to walk, but also to change other things in my life.
Hilde in Germany
Hi Everybody. My miles for 2019 were 1025 in the end. I'm pretty pleased with that. This year will be my 6th year of doing this challenge, so to ring the changes and give myself a greater sense of achievement I'm upping my goal to 1100 miles. I might not make it but I'm going to try :0)
ReplyDeleteWell done and good luck everybody.

Lesley Sansome has some good videos on you tube for the winter months if there are days when it's too wet/cold to walk outdoors. It's a variation of walking on the spot and you can choose a distance from one of the videos. I did some last winter after seeing a recommendation (on here? Can't remember now) and they were quite enjoyable once you got into the swing of it. My elderly mum likes them as she can stop when she wants rather than being out walking and then feel she's gone too far and it's hard walking home. When I ask her what she's been doing she says I went for a walk with Lesley!
ReplyDeleteHi Steph, thanks for recommending Lesley's waling videos on you tube. I've just tried them & done 2 miles equivalent of walking & that's without going out of the house! I don't like going for a walk in the cold weather.
DeleteHappy New Year. My total miles for 2019 was 1097. I was hoping to do 1200 but was ill towards the end of the year. A fresh start for 2020. Love reading your blog as it cheers me up and especially love your yellow sticker shopping bargains and creative meals. Wishing you a very happy 2020.
ReplyDeleteWell I have been thinking this over. I know that I am not going to manage the 1000 mile challenge but am wanting to commit publicly to some sort of new years resolution that is doable. I have decided that I will commit to 180 minutes, (3 hours), of some sort of exercise each week. It will be some walking but also a bike ride and swimming every week as well. All the best for the new year to you all. Aloha
ReplyDeleteAfter reading comments for several months on the walking challenge, I decided to join in this year. Although my dog may not like the daily long walks as much as he is getting older!! Since the first of January I have managed 3 miles every day (I like round numbers!) and look forward to reporting every month.
ReplyDeleteI do want to say that I really enjoy the food buys you talk about. Here in the US many grocery stores do not do the mark-downs like Tesco and rarely will you see produce reduced weekly. When I lived in NH, one of the grocery stores had trays of reduced produce. Once I saw the type of produce they reduced, it became one of my favorite things to check.
